Impression formation and character inference are formed via cognition of facial expression, and so on. Individual's emotional condition is thought as one of factors that related the judgment of cognition of facial expression. Affective priming paradigm is often used to control its condition. Many affective priming studies were applied to cognition of expression, however, not to impression formation. Therefore, this study discussed the following three hypotheses to examine that impression formation is whether or not influence by subliminal affective priming. First, when prime-target evaluation (positive verse negative) is inconsistent (Inconsistent condition), impression evaluation is influenced by prime's impression, compared with Consistent condition that prime-target evaluation is consistent. Second, as target duration is longer, variance of values of impression evaluation becomes smaller. Third, when target duration is short, variance of those is small under consistent condition compared with inconsistent condition. As a result of experiment, all hypotheses were not support. However, since some suggestions about impression formation's speed and variance of evaluation were thought about by the experiment, it is desired to search for priming effect further

Reconsideration of Hormonal Therapy in the Era of Next‐ Generation Hormonal Therapy

Hormonal therapy is a major and effective tool in the treatment of prostate cancer patients. This is especially true for patients in the advanced stages of disease. Unfortunately, almost all prostate cancer cells will develop into castration‐resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) despite continued therapy and suppression of testosterone levels. Up until 5–6 years ago, there was little effective therapy for the treatment of CRPC patients. However, recently, a variety of methodologies and drugs such as cabazitaxel and sipuleucel‐T have been approved globally for the treatment of CRPC. Two novel drugs, abiraterone acetate and enzartamide, have also become available as potential treatment options. However, the anticancer effects of these two drugs are not always satisfactory in terms of prolonging survival. These drugs are also associated with adverse events and are expensive when compared with the costs of previously used anticancer drugs. In this section, we pay particular attention to hormonal therapies that do not include the use of abiraterone acetate or enzartamide. We believe that a detailed understanding of the range of currently available hormonal therapies, including their associated benefits and limitations, is important for supporting the prolongation of survival in patients with advanced prostate cancer. Therefore, this section offers a valuable discussion on the treatment strategies for prostate cancer including CRPC

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of both the facial expressions and the number of surrounding others on the initial impression formation of someone, by referencing Nunoi and Yoshikawa (2016) to take into consideration the evaluators\u27 gender. The study examines three hypotheses. Hypothesis 1 is that the impression of someone will be positive, if surrounding others display expressions of joy, but that the impression will be negative, if surrounding others have expressions of disgust. Hypothesis 2 is that more support for Hypothesis 1 would be observed when there are two surrounding others, rather than a single other person. Hypothesis 3 is that female evaluators are more susceptible to both the expressions and the number of others compared to male evaluators. Although the results of the study do not support these three hypotheses, a contrast effect is observed

A contextual approach to skills for expressing gratitude through semi-structured interviews : A preliminary study

    Get PDF
This study explores the skills for expressing gratitude using a range of actual cases based on the social skills perspective. We supposed that a contextual approach to skills for expressing gratitude successfully works to combine expressions of gratitude and interpersonal situations. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews from university students and were statistically analyzed using correspondence analysis. Results showed that a set of expressions of gratitude and interpersonal situation was different between same-sex friends and opposite-sex friends

Multi-scale analysis of the influence of filler shapes on the mechanical performance of resin composites using high resolution nano-CT images

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the criteria for predicting the fracture initiation of resin composites (RCs) at the micro-scale and assess the influence of filler shapes on the flexural properties of RCs by combining nano-CT imaging and in silico multi-scale analysis. Methods: Experimental RCs composed of irregular-shaped (IS) silica filler (31.2 vol%/50.0 wt%) and Bis-GMA/TEGDMA were prepared. The RC specimens were scanned by a nano-CT with 500-nm resolution, and 10 micro-scale models (100 × 100 × 100 μm) were randomly extracted from a scanned region. In silico micro-scale models containing sphere-shaped (SS) fillers with the same volume content as the experimental RC were designed. Each RC model's elastic modulus and Poisson's ratio at the macro-scale were calculated using homogenization analysis. The flexural strength of the RC models were predicted by finite element analysis using the elastic moduli and Poisson's ratio values. Results: Significantly greater elastic modulus values were obtained in the X, Y, and Z directions for RC models containing IS fillers than SS fillers. Similarly, smaller Poisson's ratio values were observed in the Y and Z directions for RC model containing IS fillers than SS fillers (p < 0.05). The flexural strength of RC model containing IS fillers was significantly greater than the RC model containing SS fillers (p < 0.05). Significance: The in silico multi-scale analysis established in this study demonstrated that RC model containing irregular-shaped fillers had greater flexural strength than RC model loaded with SS fillers, suggesting that the mechanical strength of the RC can be improved by optimizing the shape of the silica fillers.Sakai T., Li H., Abe T., et al.
