Classification of snare drum sounds using neural networks

    No full text
The development of computer algorithms for music instrument identification and parameter extraction in digital audio signals is an active research field. A musician can listen to music and instantly identify different instruments and the timbres produced by various playing techniques. Creating software to allow computers to do the same is much more challenging. This thesis will use digital signal processing and machine learning techniques to differentiate snare drum timbres produced by different stroke positions and stroke techniques

    ABSTRACT

Musicians are able to recognise the subtle differences in timbre produced by different playing techniques on an instrument, yet there has been little research into achieving this with a computer. This paper will demonstrate an automatic system that can successfully recognise different timbres produced by different performance techniques and classify them using signal processing and classification tools. Success rates over 90 % are achieved when classifying snare drum timbres produced by different playing techniques. 1

JunctionBox: A Toolkit for Creating Multi-touch Sound Control Interfaces

    No full text
JunctionBox is a new software toolkit for creating multitouch interfaces for controlling sound and music. More specifically, the toolkit has special features which make it easy to create TUIO-based touch interfaces for controlling sound engines via Open Sound Control. Programmers using the toolkit have a great deal of freedom to create highly customized interfaces that work on a variety of hardware

JunctionBox for Android: An Interaction Toolkit for Android-based Mobile Devices

    No full text
JunctionBox is an interaction toolkit specifically designed for building multi-touch sound control interfaces. The toolkit allows developers to build interfaces for Android mobile devices, including phones and tablets. Those devices can then be used to remotely control any sound engine via OSC messaging. While the toolkit makes many aspects of interface development easy, the toolkit is designed to offer considerable power to developers looking to build novel interfaces
