    Chemical Categories and Read Across

This report aims to outline and summarise some of the practical experiences from the major Regulatory agencies as well as the guidance so far developed by the OECD. Definitions for some of the common terms such as read across and chemical categories are provided. Recommendations for further work are highlighted. Regulatory use of read across/chemical category is still quite limited. A clear need, to promote greater uptake of these types of these approach, is the development of practical guidance.JRC.I.3-Toxicology and chemical substance

Building the United Health Services Palliative Medicine Service

As part of UHS, the largest comprehensive healthcare system in the Southern Tier of New York State, the UHS Palliative Medicine Program serves patients with serious, chronic, and/or terminal illnesses, such as cancer, dementia, heart disease, and lung disease. Staffed by an interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurse practitioners, and social workers, the program takes a holistic approach to the management of these illnesses, with the goal of maximizing quality of life through the end of life. The program works to help patients at any age and at any stage of illness to: • Understand their options • Manage their symptoms, including pain, shortness of breath, and fatigue, as well as anxiety and depression • Address their emotional and spiritual needs • Develop care plans and advanced directives that respect their choices • Support their family and friends • Coordinate their care with providers in the hospital and in the community A relatively new specialty, palliative medicine has expanded across the United States over the last two decades (Dumanovsky et al., 2015). Palliative medicine services have been associated with increased patient satisfaction rates and decreased healthcare costs in both hospital and home settings (for example, Brumley et al., 2007; Morrison et al., 2008; Morrison et al., 2011).https://orb.binghamton.edu/mpa_capstone/1013/thumbnail.jp

Rational emotive therapy: possible applications for secondary students with learning disabilities

    Get PDF
That behavior problems tend to accompany the child with learning disabilities is a proposition which is not in dispute. The frustration of the child who cannot meet the demands placed on him by his environment, coupled with his own awareness that he is not making the grade, leads to an array of problems which are often talked about in terms such as poor self concept, low self esteem, faulty social perception and lack of peer acceptance (Bryan, 1978)

Domestic Violence Harms the Child! The Seventh Circuit Puts Children First in International Custody Disputes

    Get PDF
What happens when a United States citizen parent takes her child from a foreign country, where they have been living, to the United States in order to escape domestic violence? Traditionally, under the Hague Convention, American courts would implement the remedy of return, thereby returning the child to the foreign country, where the abuser resides. While the Hague Convention provides a defense to this remedy if there is a grave risk of harm to the child, some circuit courts have declined to extend this defense to cases of domestic violence or have nevertheless implemented the remedy of return. The Seventh Circuit, however, has set an example for other circuits by expanding the scope of the grave risk of harm defense under the Hague Convention to include cases of domestic violence, declining to return children to the country where the abuser resides. This Comment will provide background on the Hague Convention and an overview on American jurisprudence concerning application of the Convention in cases of domestic violence. It will then conclude that the Seventh Circuit, in Van de Sande v. Van de Sande, properly expanded the scope of the grave risk of harm defense in cases of domestic violence

A Compendium of Case Studies that Helped to Shape the REACH Guidance on Chemical Categories and Read Across

    Get PDF
This document pulls together the compendium of case studies that were conducted as part of the REACH project charged with developing technical guidance on the use and formation of chemical grouping approaches (chemical categories/read-across). The lessons and insights from each of these case studies helped to shape the technical content captured in the resulting guidance. The case studies are presented in their original form. They are grouped into two themes for ease of reference: current and prospective experiences in the formation and/or use of category approaches.JRC.I.3-Toxicology and chemical substance
