    PRODUCTION OF POLYCLONAL ANTIBODIES AGAINST RECOMBINANT VP6 ANTIGEN OF ROTAVIRUS

    Rotavirus is the most common cause of diarrhea in infants and young children under five years old. The VP6 protein of rotavirus was considered as an important antigen in the development of novel vaccine generation and diagnostic tools. Polyclonal antibodies of VP6 antigen could be used to generate a rapid test based on the lateral flow immunoassay. In the present study, we showed the results of synthesis of polyclonal antibodies against recombinant VP6 protein of rotavirus. Recombinant VP6 protein was strongly produced by E. coli in suitable conditions. The properties of recombinant VP6 protein were characterized by Western blot and ELISA methods. Pure recombinant VP6 protein was used as an antigen to inject into the rabbits. The recombinant VP6 protein was highly immunogenic in rabbits. Anti-VP6 antibodies were purified from the rabbit serum using the Protein A affinity chromatography. The specificity of the antibody towards its antigen was characterized by Western blot and ELISA immunoassay. The purity of antibody was reached as 97 %. The efficiency of antibody production in rabbit was 3.94 mg/ml serum. The amount and quality of the obtained anti-rotavirus VP6 antibody was suitable for application in the development of the diagnostic kits

    Sustainability assessment of coastal ecosystems: DPSIR analysis for beaches at the Northeast Coast of Vietnam

    The Northeastern coastal zone of Vietnam possesses high biodiversity and rich ecosystems like coral reefs, seagrasses, beaches and mangroves. It also includes the Ha Long Bay Natural Heritage site (UNESCO 1994) and the Cat Ba Biosphere Reserve (MAB/UNESCO 2004) as well as hosts the Economic Development Triangle (Hai Phong-Ha Noi-Quang Ninh) established by the Government of Vietnam. As one of the coastal ecosystems, sandy beach ecosystems attracted more attention during recent decades because of their essential role for human welfare and in environmental protection. A few studies concentrated on sustainable management of sandy beach based on environmental and ecological protection and enhance the beach quality for recreational use. The DPSIR (Driving force Pressure State Impact Response) framework describes the logical interaction among systems and finds out the cause and consequence of social-economic development activities to the environment and resources. In this study, the DPSIR was applied on the sandy beaches in the Northeastern coast of Vietnam to reveal the main environmental problems on sandy beaches including the decline of the natural landscape around the beaches and the degradation of the environment. It also pointed out that tourism development in association with urbanization and sea reclamation is the main driving forces for environmental degradation of the sandy beaches. Therefore, local authorities of Hai Phong and Quang Ninh should take into account several main responses to policies on inter-province coordination and managerial measures with a wider scope, which integrate socio-economic and physical factors, proximity, accessibility, and neighborhood to manage healthy coastal ecosystems and sandy beaches in particular. An integrated coastal management program for the Northeastern coast of Vietnam needs to be developed and carried out to follow the laws of Vietnam as well as to meet local urgent requirements

    FINE NEEDLE ASPIRATION CYTOLOGY AS A DIAGNOSTIC TOOL; AN ASSESSMENT

    The study is about breast lesions which is a common cause of mortality and morbidity among females. To avoid negative consequences, there is need for urgent diagnosis and treatment. Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) is a useful diagnostic tool and possess higher level of accuracy. In this study, the objective was to determine the accuracy of FNAC in diagnosis of palpable breast lumps. Additionally, the objective was to find the correlation between cytological findings and histopathological examination of surgical specimens. The methodology of the study was based on retrospective study method. FNAC of breast lump was conducted on 271 patients out of which 104 formed the base group. The results showed that there were 104 patients of base study who had average age of 32 years. There were 54 patients with lump in left breasts, and 46 patients with lump in right breasts and 4 patient had bilateral lump. There were 77 patients with benign, 34 patients with malignant, and 3 had atypica;/suspicious lesions on cytological examination. Based on histopathological examination, 77 cases were related to benign, 26 were related to malignant, and 1 with atypical/suspicious. Cyto-histological concurrence was 93.05% and 79.2% for Fibroadenoma and Infiltrating ductal carcinoma respectively. Overall sensitivity of FNAC procedure was 94.17%, specificity 100% and accuracy 93.26%.  On the basis of result, it is concluded that FNAC is a simple, reliable method for diagnosis of both benign and malignant lesions and can be used in the evaluation of breast lesions.

    MACRO-ZOOPLANKTON ABUNDANCE IN RELATION TO METAL ACCUMULATION AND WATER QUALITY IN TRUC BACH LAKE

    Urban lake pollution is one of the serious issues due to suffering of waste discharged from householders. However, there is a gap of knowledge about the diversity of zooplankton species and how metals accumulate in zooplankton in urban ecosystems. We addressed this by determining the rule of blooming macro-zooplankton in Truc Bach lake and levels of two essential metals: copper (Cu), and zinc (Zn) and of three non-essential metals: arsenic (As), and lead (Pb) in water samples were determined. The results showed that Cladocerans and copepods are macro-zooplankton dominant species in Truc Bach Lake. Water temperature significantly affects the variety of copepod blooming. Arsenic concentration in water collected from the lake exceeded the safety level of current Vietnamese regulation. As concentration in macro-zooplankton positively correlated with metal concentrations in the water (p 0.05) while the concentration of Cu, Zn, and Pb in water has no significant correlation with the metal in zooplankton’s body. The relative abundance of adult copepods in Truc Bach lake had a negative correlation with As concentration in water (p = 0.01). The higher As concentration in water, the lower relative abundance of copepods was found in the sample

    Production of gamma-aminobutyric acid by lactic acid bacteria of marine origin from Vietnam

    Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a non-proteinogenic amino acid, which functions as a neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. GABA has been shown to have several positive effects on human health, including reducing anxiety and promoting relaxation. In this study, various fermented fish products were screened for their ability to produce GABA. A total of 35 acid lactic producing strains were isolated from 8 samples of marine organism, 10 strains were found to have GABA-producing abilities. These strains were identified using 16S rDNA sequencing. The GABA concentrations produced by the 10 isolates ranged from 725 to 5590 mg/L. Lactobacillus brevis GB111 is the best isolated GABA producing strain, with a conversion rate up to 90.3%, which suggests that these strains may have potential applications in the food and pharmaceutical industries as a source of GABA

By this way, learners are self-reliant to discover what they do not know, not passively absorb the knowledge arranged by the teacher. Placed in situations of real life, learners experience, directly observe, discuss, experiment, solve problems posed by their thinking, both working in groups, thereby gaining new knowledge, new skills, promoting creative potential. Depending on the objectives of the specific subject, which level of knowledge or skill needs to be achieved according to the CDIO approach, the lecturer will organize appropriate activities to help students actively learn to achieve the goals. The paper explores and evaluates innovative teaching methods to help students actively learn and experience to achieve the subject’s goals and training program following the CDIO approach, as well as meet the requirements of society

    USING RUBRIC TO ASSESS PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENTS' COMPETENCE IN TEACHING SCIENCE IN VIETNAM

    Vietnam is in the early stages of implementing the reform of the curriculum and textbooks. Vietnam's general education is changing strongly from content-based teaching to competence-building teaching [1]. That change has been implemented by researchers and teachers in all elements of the teaching process, including testing and evaluation. Evaluation of educational outcomes needs to shift from testing memorization to assessing the ability to apply knowledge to solve practical problems, attaching importance to both assessment of learning outcomes and assessment in the learning process. In this situation, testing and assessment in teaching Science in primary schools are also interesting to many teachers, and assessment of scientific competence in teaching this subject is considered an important factor contributing to improving the quality of Science and the quality of subject teaching in the direction of developing students' ability. The article mentions some theoretical foundations and the actual situation of using Rubric in assessing the scientific competence of students in grades 4 and 5 when teachers teach Science, thereby proposing some measures to improve the effectiveness of assessment in teaching this subject.  Article visualizations

    Effects of palladium on the optical and hydrogen sensing characteristics of Pd-doped ZnO nanoparticles

    Abstract The effect of palladium doping of zinc oxide nanoparticles on the photoluminescence (PL) properties and hydrogen sensing characteristics of gas sensors is investigated. The PL intensity shows that the carrier dynamics coincides with the buildup of the Pd-related green emission. The comparison between the deep level emission and the gas sensing response characteristics allows us to suggest that the dissociation of hydrogen takes place at Pd Zn -vacancies ([Pd 2+ (4d 9 )]). The design of this sensor allows for a continuous monitoring in the range of 0-100% LEL H 2 concentration with high sensitivity and selectivity. 126
