    Determinising Parity Automata

Parity word automata and their determinisation play an important role in automata and game theory. We discuss a determinisation procedure for nondeterministic parity automata through deterministic Rabin to deterministic parity automata. We prove that the intermediate determinisation to Rabin automata is optimal. We show that the resulting determinisation to parity automata is optimal up to a small constant. Moreover, the lower bound refers to the more liberal Streett acceptance. We thus show that determinisation to Streett would not lead to better bounds than determinisation to parity. As a side-result, this optimality extends to the determinisation of B\"uchi automata

    A Full-Duplex Diversity-Assisted Hybrid Analogue/Digitized Radio Over Fibre for Optical/Wireless Integration

A duplex Radio Over Fibre (ROF) ring architecture is proposed taking into account the constraints imposed by the cost of fibre laying and of the optical/electronic components, as well as the spectral efficiency and the duplex link performance. It has been shown that relying on Analogue ROF (AROF) and state-of-the-art Digitized ROF (DROF) architectures for downlink and uplink transmission, respectively, attains a high-integrity duplex performance. A sophisticated amalgam of Optical Carrier Suppression (OCS), Code Division Multiplexing (CDM), optical frequency multiplexing, Optical Carrier Reuse (OCR) and distributed antennas is conceived

A Baseband Radio Over Fiber (BROF) architecture is proposed, where upto four Radio Frequency (RF) carriers can be generated, while using the heterodyne photo-detection of only two optical signals. This proposed BROF architecture has a star-like structure and it is composed of six Radio Access Units (RAUs), where data is transmitted from the Central Unit (CU) to the Base Station (BS) and from the BS to the RAU over a distance of 20 Km and 0.3 Km, respectively, at a rate of 768 Mbps. The performance of the system supporting four carrier frequencies drops by at most 1dB, at a BER of 10-9, compared to conventional heterodyne photo-detection

Zooplankters are the diverse, delicate and often very beautiful assemblages of animals that drift in the waters of the world oceans. The name zooplankton is derived from the Greek: Zoon, animal; planktos, wandering. They play a key role in the marine food web by transferring the organic energy produced by the unicellular algae to higher trophic levels such as pelagic stocks. Because of their critical role as food source for larval and juvenile fish, the dynamics of zooplankton populations, their reproductive cycles, growth and survival rates are all important factors influencing recruitment of fish stocks and thereby the magnitude of fishery. Majority of them are microscopic, unicellular or multicellular forms with size ranging from a few microns to a millimeter or more. In addition to size variations, there are differences in morphological features and taxonomic position. The zooplankton plays an important role to study the faunal biodiversity of aquatic ecosystems

In the existing sampling methodology, the interest is to estimate gear-wise, species-wise landings for the state in a month, fishing effort according to different types of fishing boats and also in terms of man hours. The analysis is carried out at CMFRI headquarters. Before the data is processed for analysis it will be ensured that the data collection is made as per the approved schedule, by checking the appropriate proforma. The responsibilities and functions of staff at the headquarters are data coding, estimation and database management. The data analysis is computerised and estimates are made using the software developed by the Fishery Resources Assessment Division of the Institute. The processed data are again counter- checked for errors. When discrepancies are detected, the estimation procedure is scrutinised in detail

Ecology and biodiversity of open sea cage farm at Mandapam, India

Farming of marine fin and shellfish species is an age old practice across the globe to augment the seafood demand and to supplement the rich protein food. Fin fish mariculture in India has been a recent initiative and the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute was successful in developing captive breeding and seed production technique for cobia (Rachycentron canadum) and silver pompano (Trachinotus blochii). The open sea cages are particularly advantageous for maintaining the brood stock of potential species for captive breeding. However, the ecology of the cage farming sites is of paramount importance and should be conducive for the survival, health and growth of fishes that are farmed. In the present study, an attempt was made to understand the ecology and biodiversity of the cage farming area at Mandapam in Gulf of Mannar, south-east coast of India
