Jahrhundert
Since the twelfth century the medieval jurisprudence of canon law began to analyse the meaning of fides, because this term was used by several authoritative legal texts. In general, fides was understood not only as a mode of belief, but also as fundamental guarantee of mutual trust in human society. The latter understanding of fides resulted in the development of the idea that every promise, particularly in contractual contexts, had binding force. As a consequence, medieval canonists opposed the Roman contract law tradition with its strong emphasis of specific formal constraints. On the other hand, however, medieval canon law doctrine argued that the breach of fides within existing contractual relationships also had to be sanctioned. In this case, the other party was entitled to withdraw from the contract or other forms of mutual promises
Introduction to Swiss Law
What are the origins of direct democracy in Switzerland? How does the Swiss judiciary function? What are the principles of Swiss civil, contract and administrative law? What is the role of public service broadcasting in the political decision-making process? What are the leading cases in tax law? What forms of euthanasia are legal in Switzerland? In this introduction 19 legal scholars of the University of Zurich Law Faculty try to answer these questions and give the reader an overview of Swiss public, private, and criminal law. As the first comprehensive introduction to Swiss law in English, it is addressed to both lawyers from abroad and incoming students to the University of Zurich
Slepton pair production in the POWHEG BOX
We present an implementation for slepton pair production at hadron colliders
in the POWHEG BOX, a framework for combining next-to-leading order QCD
calculations with parton-shower Monte-Carlo programs. Our code provides a SUSY
Les Houches Accord interface for setting the supersymmetric input parameters.
Decays of the sleptons and parton-shower effects are simulated with PYTHIA.
Focussing on a representative point in the supersymmetric parameter space we
show results for kinematic distributions that can be observed experimentally.
While next-to-leading order QCD corrections are sizable for all distributions,
the parton shower affects the color-neutral particles only marginally.
Pronounced parton-shower effects are found for jet distributions.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure
