Is It Possible for “Electronic Word-of-Mouth” and “User-Generated Content” to be Used Interchangeably?

    Get PDF
The advance of web 2.0 that facilitates contents to be created, shared and exchanged through online platforms has led to profound changes in consumer behavior. Modern consumers appreciate nonprofessional-produced contents as they are perceived to be more trustworthy. As a result, electronic Word-of-Mouth (eWOM) and user-generated content (UGC) have become two of the most frequent researched objects over the last ten years in marketing area. However, extant studies have confounded these two concepts which may cause significant academic problems. In this paper the authors aim to disentangle eWOM and UGC by comparing their fundamental attributes. Findings prove that despite sharing similar attributes, eWOM and UGC are two distinctive concepts with different scope and meaning. It is thus concluded that eWOM and UGC cannot be used interchangeably. The results of this study provide important implications for future research. Keywords: eWOM, UGC, creation, dissemination, publicity. DOI: 10.7176/JMCR/65-04 Publication date: February 29th 202

Population vulnerability to drought and other extreme weather events in the context of climate change – a case study in the Central Highlands of Viet Nam

Drought is a natural phenomenon caused by a lack of precipitation over a long period in a specific area. It happens throughout the world, affecting large areas and causing significant human and economic losses. Recently, climate change has become more visible worldwide. In Vietnam, a visible consequence of climate change is an increase in frequency and severity of drought. Recently, severe drought occured in the Central Highlands of Vietnam due to the continuing El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) phenomena, causing varying degrees of damage to agriculture and residents' livelihoods in 2014, 2015, and 2016. The Central Highland of VietNam is an important agricultural area of Vietnam. It holds the Srepok River basin that plays a significant role in the Central Highland and where this study was located. This study examines regional socio-natural climate vulnerability and adaptive response capacities of local people to drought in the Srepok River basin region of Central Highland. As a mean of population vulnerability reduction, a monitoring system for the forecast of primary agriculture products such as coffee crops is proposed. The findings of this study indicated that water (sensitivity) and livelihood strategies (adaptive capacity) are two major causes of high vulnerability to drought for all districts and surveyed communities. The study also found that there is a significant difference in climate change perceptions and observations of climate change-related extreme events, depending on different socio-economic and demographic household characteristics: in particular, education, preferred media sources and income sources have significant effects on local people’s perceptions regarding drought. Besides, this study is the first to develop and assess a coffee yield forecasting method at the regional scale for Dak Lak province, in the Central Highlands of Vietnam, by using the Crop Growth Monitoring System Statistical Tool (CGMSstatTool – CST) software and vegetation biophysical variables (NDVI, LAI, and FAPAR) derived from satellite remote sensing (SPOT-VEGETATION and PROBA-V). These results might help assess the needs in terms of actions and designing site-specific intervention strategies to reduce the vulnerability of agriculture smallholders to climate change.Project 2.21 –“ Support for the establishment of a drought observatory”13. TEACHERS’ CORRECTIVE FEEDBACK ON ENGLISH STUDENTS’ WRITING

    Get PDF
This investigates the participants’ attitudes towards corrective feedback as well as the types of corrective feedback on learners’ performance by questionnaires for both students and teachers. Fifty–eight 2nd-year students and 5 teachers of English at a university in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam participated in the study. The results indicated that students had a positive attitude towards teachers’ corrective feedback. Besides, with the analyzed data, correction with comments and teacher correction was considered as the most useful strategy when giving feedback in the learners’ performance. The outcomes of the study suggest a widespread employment of corrective feedback in teaching writing at universities and colleges in the region.   Article visualizations

Music in the Festival of Vietnamese People (Thanh Hoa) - Issues

    Get PDF
The article focuses on studying music in festivals of Vietnamese people in Thanh Hoa. Through the collected material, the authors have synthesized, explored the cultural aspects of the composition and analyzed the music. The result of the research is to find out the meaning of music in contributing to the festival\u27s appearance and to find out the operating rules and basic characteristics of music. From there, several discussions are given to preserve and promote music in the festival to achieve higher efficiency in life. The research results are the judgments about the culture and music constituting the overall festival, including (1) Meaning of festival organization; (2) Space and time of the festival; (3) Musical genres and performances in festivals; (4) Musical characteristics. The study also identifies appropriate research methods, and musical analysis techniques are also the basis for making objective judgments. This research will serve as the basis for the research, conservation, and promotion of folk music in larger and more comprehensive aspect

Investigation of Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity Reduction in Reinforced Concrete Members Exposed to High Temperature

    Get PDF
Nowadays, the fire resistance of reinforced concrete members is generally defined by material characteristics at elevated temperatures and temperature functions. However, the influence of steel reinforcement in concrete members exposed to high temperatures on the ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) measurements has still been limited. In this paper, the quality of concrete and steel reinforcement/concrete interface was assessed under high temperatures using UPV measurements. The specimens were classified into four categories: the control tested cubes without rebar; tested cubes with plain and ribbed steel rebars. Tested cubes with dimensions of 100x100x100 mm were cast and cured for 28 days at room temperature (20oC). After drying all specimens at 105oC for 48 hours, these cubes were subjected to four different temperature levels ranging from 150oC to 400oC for 4 hours before being cooled to room temperature. According to the measured values of UPV, the higher the temperature attained in specimens, the greater the following changes occurred in concrete: (i) the degradation within the concrete; (ii) the debonding of steel reinforcements in concrete

A STUDY OF INDONESIA’S STOCK MARKET: HOW PREDICTABLE IS IT?

    Get PDF
Using monthly data from January 1995 to December 2017, this paper tests whetherIndonesian stock index returns are predictable. In particular, we use eight macrovariables to predict the Indonesian composite and six sectoral index returns using thefeasible generalized least squares estimator. Our results suggest that the Indonesianstock index returns are predictable. However, the predictability depends not only onthe macro predictor used but also on the indexes examined. Second, we find that themost popular predictor is the exchange rate, followed by the interest rate. Finally, ourmain findings hold for a number of robustness tests.Using monthly data from January 1995 to December 2017, this paper tests whetherIndonesian stock index returns are predictable. It is not deniable that pronunciation is considered one of the most crucial parts of learning English helping learners enhance their communication in both speaking and listening comprehension. To reach a level of a clear and precise pronunciation has never been an effortless task; however, it is a far more problematic one for English majored students regardless of their learning years. For this reason, the study entitled “Common Errors in Pronouncing Dental Sounds of English-Majored Sophomores at Tay Do University” was implemented with the aim at investigating the errors that English-majored students encountered in pronouncing dental sounds. 80 English-majored sophomores from course 14 at Tay Do University were selected to participate in the study. Questionnaires and recording tests were delivered to the participants for collecting data and getting more information. The collected data from the two instruments mentioned above was all analyzed afterward. The findings of the research revealed that sophomores of English major often mispronounced the dental sounds, including omission and substitution. The results of this study may also be useful for those who are interested in this field. Article visualizations
