    STATUS OF USING IT IN TEACHING: OPINIONS OF MATHEMATICS TEACHERS OF HAU GIANG PROVINCE, VIETNAM

    Application of information technology to education with the purpose of contributing to improving the quality of education and teaching in general and in teaching mathematics, in particular, is a trend of the world. In Vietnam, this trend has been implemented in high schools for many years. To find out about the status of facilities and teaching related to using information technology (IT) of mathematics teachers in schools in Hau Giang province - Vietnam, we conducted a survey of 71 mathematics teachers by 5 - point Likert scale questionnaire. The survey contents were (1) Current status of facilities for teaching and applying IT; (2) The frequency of using IT in teaching high school mathematics; (3) The software used in teaching mathematics; (4) The learning attitude of students when teachers apply IT in teaching and learning; (5) Students' ability to absorb knowledge in lessons with the support of IT. The results showed that in some schools, facilities for using IT were inadequate; teachers sometimes or rarely applied IT in their teaching. However, most of the mathematics teachers asserted that teaching with IT increased motivation and performance of students. The report has partly reflected the practical situation of this approach to educational technology in Hau Giang province in particular and in Vietnam in common.  Article visualizations

    A study on vegetative propagation of Huperzia serrata by cuttings in Sa Pa, Lao Cai

    Huperzia serrata is a precious medicinal plant used in medicine to support and treat Alzheimer's disease. Currently, this species is in danger of extinction due to indiscriminate exploitation for commercial purposes. Furthermore, this species reproduces slowly and is difficult to cultivate artificially. The reproduction by spores of this species is very long and takes 15−20 years from the spore germination to mature plant, whereas asexual reproduction by tissue culture is also difficult. Therefore, cutting is an effective method to propagate this species on a large scale. In this study, we surveyed the factors affecting the survival rate, the rooting and the number of new leaves of the stem cuttings, including cutting length, growing substrate, and effects of growth-regulating hormones IBA (0 ppm, 500 ppm, 1000 ppm, 2000 ppm and 3000 ppm) and α-NAA (0 ppm, 10 ppm, 20 ppm, 30 ppm and 40 ppm). The experimental results showed that using cuttings of 6 cm in length treated with IBA at a concentration of 1000 ppm for 30 mins and cultured on the substrate mixture of soil, decomposed animal manure and rice husk at a ratio of 3:1:1 was the best for cuttings of H. serrata in Sa Pa. The results of this study will contribute to the conservation and development of genetic source of H. serrata in Vietnam.

    Experimental cultivation of Spirulina platensis using My An mineral water, Thua Thien Hue province

    Spirulina platensis was experimentally cultivated by semi-continuous method at 20m2 scale pilot to effectively use the available bicarbonate and minerals of the My An mineral water, Phu Vang district, Thua Thien Hue province, and reduce production cost. Analyses of My An water quality showed that this mineral water source was suitable to cultivate Spirulina Platensis after removing H2S. The average algal yield reached to 10gDW/m2.day. The obtained algal biomass contained high nutrient compositions and was a suitable source for functional food (68.32 % protein, 7.32 % lipids containing Omega-3 and Omega-6, and low heavy metal concentration). The obtained results indicated that the My An mineral water source was indeed a suitable water source for producing Spirulina platensis biomass as a functional food

    Effects of water scarcity awareness and climate change belief on recycled water usage willingness: Evidence from New Mexico, United States

    The global water crisis is being exacerbated by climate change, even in the United States. Recycled water is a feasible alternative to alleviate the water shortage, but it is constrained by humans’ perceptions. The current study examines how residents’ water scarcity awareness and climate change belief influence their willingness to use recycled water directly and indirectly. Bayesian Mindsponge Framework (BMF) analytics was employed on a dataset of 1831 residents in Albuquerque, New Mexico, an arid inland region in the US. We discovered that residents’ willingness to use direct recycled potable water is positively affected by their awareness of water scarcity, but the effect is conditional on their belief in the impacts of climate change on the water cycle. Meanwhile, the willingness to use indirect recycled potable water is influenced by water scarcity awareness, and the belief in climate change further enhances this effect. These findings implicate that fighting climate change denialism and informing the public of the water scarcity situation in the region can contribute to the effectiveness and sustainability of long-term water conservation and climate change alleviation efforts

    Investigating determinants of competitiveness of the retail banking service in Vietnam: a customer approach

    This study is conducted to clarify the impact of the factors on the competitiveness of retail banking services inVietnam’s commercial banks from the customer’s approach. The hypothesis in this paper is proposed that the competitiveness of retail banking services is related to the following factors: service quality, fees, distribution channels, promotion activities, and brand. The data is used from the survey conducted by 438 individual customers who have been using retail banking services in Vietnam’s big cities. This paper shows that the specific factors which are positively impact the competitiveness of retail banking services in Vietnam can be seen as prices (service fees), promotion activities, brand and distribution channels and service quality. The findings in this research could be an academic basis towards the improvement of the policies for retail banking services in Vietnam

    The BSC-DEA model is a combination model between two performance measurement methods that are applied commonly at present: balanced scorecard (BSC) and data envelopment analysis (DEA). It is considered a reasonable model to measure efficiency of non-manufacturing organizations such as commercial banks, which use many inputs to produce a lot of outputs. This is because such a model can allow us not only to compare the relative efficiency between different banks but also to evaluate the performance of each bank on four perspectives: financial, customer, internal processes, learning and growth. Therefore, our study has applied this integrated model to measure the efficiency of commercial banks in Thua Thien Hue province. The results show that the customer perspective has the lowest average technical efficiency score; so the commercial banks in the area need to consider improving the efficiency of this aspect by expanding their scale and developing their new customers.Mô hình BSC-DEA là mô hình kết hợp giữa hai phương pháp đo lường hiệu quả đang được áp dụng phổ biến hiện nay là: thẻ điểm cân bằng (BSC) và phân tích bao dữ liệu (DEA). Đây được xem là mô hình hợp lý để đo lường hiệu quả của các tổ chức phi sản xuất, sử dụng nhiều đầu vào để tạo ra nhiều đầu ra như các NHTM. Phương pháp này không chỉ cho phép so sánh hiệu quả tương quan giữa các ngân hàng khác nhau mà còn cho phép đánh giá hiệu quả của mỗi ngân hàng trên cả bốn phương diện: tài chính, khách hàng, quy trình nội bộ, học hỏi và phát triển. Vì vậy, nghiên cứu của chúng tôi đã sử dụng mô hình kết hợp này để đo lường hiệu quả hoạt động của các NHTM trên địa bàn tỉnh Thừa Thiên Huế. Kết quả cho thấy phương diện khách hàng là phương diện có chỉ số hiệu quả kỹ thuật bình quân thấp nhất; các NHTM trên địa bàn cần xem xét cải thiện hiệu quả của phương diện này thông qua mở rộng quy mô, phát triển thêm khách hàng mới
