The research is financed by KC08.08/16-20: Study of measures for mitigating and adapting to drought and salinity intrusion as natural hazards in Camau peninsula, Ministry of Science and Technology, Vietnam Abstract Groundwater system in Camau Peninsula has 6 main aquifers (not including very poorly productive qh aquifer), of which 4 aquifers are predominantly exploited, namely qp2-3, qp1, n22 and n21; 2 minor aquifers are qp3 and n13. Although the aquifers are located over the area, due to complicated fresh/saline interfaces in sections, exploitation and protection of groundwater sources is dealing with many problems. In the paper, information of aquifers is systematized into a map of groundwater exploitation zoning on scale 1:200,000 for the purpose of supplying essential information of water sources management in each socio-economical zone. Keywords: Camau peninsula, potential exploitable groundwater reserve. DOI: 10.7176/JEES/10-4-04 Publication date: April 30th 202

Finite Element Method Analysis of Resonant Cavity for Whispering Gallery Acoustic Sensing Microscopy

Whispering Gallery Acoustic Sensing (WGAS) has been studied by Department of Physics at Portland State University as a mean of controlling sample to probe distance in tuning-folk-based scanning probe microscopy (TF-SPM). WGAS uses the microscope frame as a resonance acoustic cavity. The setup shows high potential because of high-quality factor nature of acoustic cavity as well as using mechanical motions of the TF itself instead of electrical signals. However, the analytic solution of the eigenfrequencies of the current microscope frame is very complex due to the asymmetric geometry. The purpose of this study is to use finite element method to simulate the frequency response of the acoustic cavity. We specifically get the response around 32kHz which is also the operate frequency of current WGAS system. Our simulation result is verified by comparing with experiment result of a much simpler symmetric cavity. The study is not only on investigating WGAS working principle but also to find ways to improve the signal to noise ratio by finding sensor position and modifying the frame geometry

    Schwinger-Keldysh Propagators from AdS/CFT Correspondence

We demonstrate how to compute real-time Green's functions for a class of finite temperature field theories from their AdS gravity duals. In particular, we reproduce the two-by-two Schwinger-Keldysh matrix propagator from a gravity calculation. Our methods should work also for computing higher point Lorentzian signature correlators. We elucidate the boundary condition subtleties which hampered previous efforts to build a Lorentzian-signature AdS/CFT correspondence. For two-point correlators, our construction is automatically equivalent to the previously formulated prescription for the retarded propagator.Comment: 16 pages, 1 figure, references added; to appear in JHE

Clinical features, antimicrobial susceptibility patterns and genomics of bacteria causing neonatal sepsis in a children's hospital in Vietnam: protocol for a prospective observational study.

INTRODUCTION: The clinical syndrome of neonatal sepsis, comprising signs of infection, septic shock and organ dysfunction in infants ≤4 weeks of age, is a frequent sequel to bloodstream infection and mandates urgent antimicrobial therapy. Bacterial characterisation and antimicrobial susceptibility testing is vital for ensuring appropriate therapy, as high rates of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), especially in low-income and middle-income countries, may adversely affect outcome. Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) in Vietnam is a rapidly expanding city in Southeast Asia with a current population of almost 8 million. There are limited contemporary data on the causes of neonatal sepsis in Vietnam, and we hypothesise that the emergence of multidrug resistant bacteria is an increasing problem for the appropriate management of sepsis cases. In this study, we aim to investigate the major causes of neonatal sepsis and assess disease outcomes by clinical features, antimicrobial susceptibility profiles and genome composition. METHOD AND ANALYSIS: We will conduct a prospective observational study to characterise the clinical and microbiological features of neonatal sepsis in a major children's hospital in HCMC. All bacteria isolated from blood subjected to whole genome sequencing. We will compare clinical variables and outcomes between different bacterial species, genome composition and AMR gene content. AMR gene content will be assessed and stratified by species, years and contributing hospital departments. Genome sequences will be analysed to investigate phylogenetic relationships. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: The study will be conducted in accordance with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki and the International Council on Harmonization Guidelines for Good Clinical Practice. Ethics approval has been provided by the Oxford Tropical Research Ethics Committee 35-16 and Vietnam Children's Hospital 1 Ethics Committee 73/GCN/BVND1. The findings will be disseminated at international conferences and peer-reviewed journals. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: ISRCTN69124914; Pre-results

Models and Methods for Matching Images in the Problem of Face Recognition

    No full text
A subject area is analyzed and the topicality of the problem of face recognition is shown. Methods for matching images by applying position lines, convolutions and invariants to the group of affine transformation for 2D and 3D images are examined. Proper comparison is a necessary condition for solving the recognition problem. Proper use of the position-line method for reducing face images to the normalized form is shown. © 2018, Allerton Press, Inc
