    Heat Kernels on the AdS(2) cone and Logarithmic Corrections to Extremal Black Hole Entropy

    We develop new techniques to efficiently evaluate heat kernel coefficients for the Laplacian in the short-time expansion on spheres and hyperboloids with conical singularities. We then apply these techniques to explicitly compute the logarithmic contribution to black hole entropy from an N=4 vector multiplet about a Z(N) orbifold of the near-horizon geometry of quarter--BPS black holes in N=4 supergravity. We find that this vanishes, matching perfectly with the prediction from the microstate counting. We also discuss possible generalisations of our heat kernel results to higher-spin fields over Z(N) orbifolds of higher-dimensional spheres and hyperboloids.Comment: 41 page

    Logarithmic Corrections to Extremal Black Hole Entropy in N = 2, 4 and 8 Supergravity

    We compute the logarithmic correction to black hole entropy about exponentially suppressed saddle points of the Quantum Entropy Function corresponding to Z(N) orbifolds of the near horizon geometry of the extremal black hole under study. By carefully accounting for zero mode contributions we show that the logarithmic contributions for quarter--BPS black holes in N=4 supergravity and one--eighth BPS black holes in N=8 supergravity perfectly match with the prediction from the microstate counting. We also find that the logarithmic contribution for half--BPS black holes in N = 2 supergravity depends non-trivially on the Z(N) orbifold. Our analysis draws heavily on the results we had previously obtained for heat kernel coefficients on Z(N) orbifolds of spheres and hyperboloids in arXiv:1311.6286 and we also propose a generalization of the Plancherel formula to Z(N) orbifolds of hyperboloids to an expression involving the Harish-Chandra character of SL(2,R), a result which is of possible mathematical interest.Comment: 40 page

    GENDERED PERSPECTIVES ON FOOD INSECURITY IN SASKATOON

    Food insecurity is a growing problem in Canada including Saskatoon. How gender is linked to household food insecurity is largely unexplored. Therefore, this study examined the relationship between gender and food insecurity based on the lived experience of 11 heterosexual couples seeking food assistance or living on social assistance in Saskatoon. This study assessed their perceptions, attitudes and beliefs about food security, household resource management, coping strategies, and food shopping and preparation practices. Data were collected by interviewing 11 couples and ten key informants and analyzed using Giorgi’s phenomenological approach. This study found food decision and grocery shopping were gendered. Female participants were involved more than their partners in decision-making about what food to buy and grocery shopping. Male participants viewed their partners more knowledgeable about food and shopping as feminine activity. Female participants felt more challenged than their spouses in grocery shopping and food preparation. There were no gender differences in other activities of household food management. Spouses supported each other and shared other household resources to manage food related activities. They held similar views about their household food situation and often agreed with each other about their household resources and the price, quality and type of food to buy. They bought foods that were affordable and nutritious. The food preferences of their family were accommodated where possible. They worked to ensure household food security. Food or money received from the Food Bank, CHEP and family were important in dealing with food insecurity. All participants and key informants agreed that food availability was not an issue but for some participants, affordability, access and time constraints were. Key informants and the participants suggested increasing support for families including more opportunities for income generation, increases in government welfare benefits, more grocery stores, transport assistance, and nutrition knowledge and cooking skill. The findings suggest policies related to gender as well as programs to improve food security in Saskatoon

    Effect of biofertilizers on horticultural and yield traits in french bean var. Contender under dry temperate conditions of Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh

    Kinnaur district is known as the dry temperate zone of Himachal Pradesh and is known for off season and quality production of vegetables.In this district of Himachal Pradesh, Natural farming is mostly done with the minimum use of chemical fertilizers. Farmers are unaware of the judicious use of farm yard manure, and biofertilizers due to which yield of the french bean is very low (50-70 q/ha). French bean is one of the most important vegetables intercropped with apple in Kinnaur District. An experiment was conducted during the summer season of 2011 at the Experimental Farm of Vegetable Research Station, Kalpa, Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh to study the effect of Rhizobium and Phosphorus Solublizing Bacteria (PSB) on the horticultural and yield traits in french bean var. Contender. Six treatments comprising seed treatments (with and without Rhizobium), seed treatment (with and without PSB) along with the combination of 60 % dose of recommended quantity of Calcium Ammonium Nitrate and 75 % dose of recommended quantity of Single Super Phosphate and organic matter were evaluated in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The results revealed that T5 treatment, i.e. Rhizobium+ PSB+ Organic matter resulted in more number of pods per plant (20), pod length (18 cm) and pod yield/ha (140 q/ha)

    We compute logarithmic corrections to the twisted index B6gB^g_6 in four-dimensional N=4\mathcal{N}=4 and N=8\mathcal{N}=8 string theories using the framework of the Quantum Entropy Function.     Plastic Deformation of High Explosive Projectile 155 mm during Gun Launch Conditions using Finite Element Method

    The structural integrity of artillery projectile 155mm high explosive Extended Range Full Bore (ERFB)boat tail designed for 155mm howitzer guns of 39, 45 and 52 calibre plays a key role inside the gun barrel. Thisprojectile comprises a shell body, a driving band, a boat tail, nubs, an explosive, and a fuze. Plastic deformationof the projectile and stripping of driving band are not permitted, when projectile is fired. An investigational study is necessitated to check the plastic deformation of the projectile subjected to maximum propellant charge pressure.The aim of this study is to check the effective plastic deformation and affirm the structural integrity. A 3-D explicit dynamic structural analysis of 155 mm HE ERFB BT during gun launch conditions is carried out by finite element method using FE code ABAQUS/Explicit. To understand the non-linear mechanical behavior of the projectile, the true stress-strain curves of the materials are considered. The plastic behavior of the projectile subjected to the time-dependent loading is studied by using the von Mises plasticity model. The results reveal that the shell body and boat tail have no plastic deformation and the most stressed component is the driving band. The investigation has affirmed the structural integrity of the projectile during gun launch conditions

    Cast immobilization in fracture distal radius with wrist in dorsiflexion

    Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the anatomical and functional outcome of cast immobilization in fracture distal radius with wrist in dorsiflexion. Study design selected was prospective cohort study.Methods: The study group comprised 60 patients, with a mean follow-up of 3 month. Patients were evaluated for radial height, radial inclination and volar tilt according to Lindstrom criteria. Functional outcome were assessed with PRWE score.Results: Mean loss of radial height was 4.11 mm. Mean loss of radial inclination was 6.85 degree and mean loss of volar tilt was 7.06 degree at the end of 3 month follow up. As per Lindstrom criteria 88% were excellent to fair and 93% were excellent to fair functional outcome as per PRWE score.Conclusions: Cast immobilization in fracture distal radius with wrist in dorsiflexion produces better anatomical and functional outcome.

The main reason behind its maintenance is that it helps in growth and development of the body. Agni is basically divided in three types which have further types and the main three types which maintain body balance are Jhataragni (digestive fire), Bhutagni and Dhatuvagni (metabolism at cellular level). They work together to maintain the balance in the body as Jhataragni is maintaining metabolism and Bhutagni and Dhatuagni is maintaining the cellular metabolism. Imbalance in the physiology of Agni is the main cause for the formation of Ama which is the main reason for many diseases. So Agni is important for every function of body.     Clinical profile of neurological gait ataxia: a hospital based study

    Background: Gait disorders are major causes of functional impairment and morbidity especially in the elderly. Most gait disorders in older person are multifactorial, including neurological and non -neurological components. The aim of the study was to determine different neurological causes of gait disorders in elderly as well as in young adults.Methods: A total of 155 patients with gait ataxia were included and studied for demographic profile, clinical features, mode of presentation and aetiology of neurological gait ataxia.Results: Of the 155 patients enrolled in the study for gait disability, the most common cause of gait disability was cerebrovascular accidents 48 (31%) followed by lower motor neuron (LMN) paraparesis20 (12.9%), compressive myelopathy 17 (11%) and infectious causes were reported in 13 (8.4%) patients. Other causes were non-compressive myelopathy 8 (5.2%), Parkinsonism 8 (5.2%), degenerative diseases 6 (3.9%), diabetic amyotrophy 5 (3.2%), sensory neuropathy, hydrocephalus, myopathy and space occupying lesions in 4 (2.6%) patients each.Conclusions: The two most common causes of gait instability in Sub-Himalayan region are cerebrovascular accidents and LMN paraparesis.     Thermodynamic Properties of Ni-substituted LnCoO3 Perovskite

    With the objective of exploring the unknown thermodynamic properties of Ni-substituted LnCoO3 perovskite, we present here an investigation of the temperature-dependent (10K < T < 300K) specific heat of LnCo0.95Ni0.05O3 (Ln=Pr and Nd) family. We report here probably for the first time the specific heat along with other elastic and thermal properties of Ni doped perovskite cobaltate LnCoO3 (Ln=Pr and Nd). In addition, the results on the cohesive energy (f) in orthorhombic perovskite phase, molecular force constant (ƒ), Reststrahlen frequency (uo) and Gruneisen parameter (γ) are also presented.
