    Laser-Cluster-Interaction in a Nanoplasma-Model with Inclusion of Lowered Ionization Energies

    The interaction of intense laser fields with silver and argon clusters is investigated theoretically using a modified nanoplasma model. Single pulse and double pulse excitations are considered. The influence of the dense cluster environment on the inner ionization processes is studied including the lowering of the ionization energies. There are considerable changes in the dynamics of the laser-cluster interaction. Especially, for silver clusters, the lowering of the ionization energies leads to increased yields of highly charged ions.Comment: 10 pages, 11 figure

    Ionic structure and photoabsorption in medium sized sodium clusters

    We present ground-state configurations and photoabsorption spectra of Na-7+, Na-27+ and Na-41+. Both the ionic structure and the photoabsorption spectra of medium-size sodium clusters beyond Na-20 have been calculated self-consistently with a nonspherical treatment of the valence electrons in density functional theory. We use a local pseudopotential that has been adjusted to experimental bulk properties and the atomic 3s level of sodium. Our studies have shown that both the ionic structure of the ground state and the positions of the plasmon resonances depend sensitively on the pseudopotential used in the calculation, which stresses the importance of its consistent use in both steps.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures.     Anisotropic multi-gap superfluid states in nuclear matter

    It is shown that under changing density or temperature a nucleon Fermi superfluid can undergo a phase transition to an anisotropic superfluid state, characterized by nonvanishing gaps in pairing channels with singlet-singlet (SS) and triplet-singlet (TS) pairing of nucleons (in spin and isospin spaces). In the SS pairing channel nucleons are paired with nonzero orbital angular momentum. Such two-gap states can arise as a result of branching from the one-gap solution of the self-consistent equations, describing SS or TS pairing of nucleons, that depends on the relationship between SS and TS coupling constants at the branching point. The density/temperature dependence of the order parameters and the critical temperature for transition to the anisotropic two-gap state are determined in a model with the SkP effective interaction.     Explicit Solution of the Time Evolution of the Wigner Function

    Previously, an explicit solution for the time evolution of the Wigner function was presented in terms of auxiliary phase space coordinates which obey simple equations that are analogous with, but not identical to, the classical equations of motion. They can be solved easily and their solutions can be utilized to construct the time evolution of the Wigner function. In this paper, the usefulness of this explicit solution is demonstrated by solving a numerical example in which the Wigner function has strong spatial and temporal variations as well as regions with negative values. It is found that the explicit solution gives a correct description of the time evolution of the Wigner function. We examine next the pseudoparticle approximation which uses classical trajectories to evolve the Wigner function. We find that the pseudoparticle approximation reproduces the general features of the time evolution, but there are deviations.     We show that grains have grown to ~mm size (sand sized) or larger in the terrestrial zone (within ~3 AU) of the protoplanetary disk surrounding the 3 Myr old binary star KH 15D.     Isospin Dependence in the Odd-Even Staggering of Nuclear Binding Energies

    The FRS-ESR facility at GSI provides unique conditions for precision measurements of large areas on the nuclear mass surface in a single experiment. Values for masses of 604 neutron-deficient nuclides (30<=Z<=92) were obtained with a typical uncertainty of 30 microunits. The masses of 114 nuclides were determined for the first time. The odd-even staggering (OES) of nuclear masses was systematically investigated for isotopic chains between the proton shell closures at Z=50 and Z=82. The results were compared with predictions of modern nuclear models. The comparison revealed that the measured trend of OES is not reproduced by the theories fitted to masses only.     Time-odd components in the mean field of rotating superdeformed nuclei

    Rotation-induced time-odd components in the nuclear mean field are analyzed using the Hartree-Fock cranking approach with effective interactions SIII, SkM*, and SkP. Identical dynamical moments J(2){{\cal J}^{(2)}} are obtained for pairs of superdeformed bands 151^{151}Tb(2)--152^{152}Dy(1) and 150^{150}Gd(2)--151^{151}Tb(1).
