Electroproduction of nucleon resonances
The unitary isobar model MAID has been extended and used for a partial wave
analysis of pion photo- and electroproduction in the resonance region W < 2
GeV. Older data from the world data base and more recent experimental results
from Mainz, Bates, Bonn and JLab for Q^2 up to 4.0 (GeV/c)^2 have been analyzed
and the Q^2 dependence of the helicity amplitudes have been extracted for a
series of four star resonances. We compare single-Q^2 analyses with a
superglobal fit in a new parametrization of Maid2003 together with predictions
of the hypercentral constituent quark model. As a result we find that the
helicity amplitudes and transition form factors of constituent quark models
should be compared with the analysis of bare resonances, where the pion cloud
contributions have been subtracted.Comment: 6 pages Latex including 5 figures, Invited talk at ICTP 4th

Separated cross sections in \pi^0 electroproduction at threshold at Q^2 = 0.05 GeV^2/c^2
The differential cross sections \sigma_0=\sigma_T+\epsilon \sigma_L,
\sigma_{LT}, and \sigma_{TT} of \pi^0 electroproduction from the proton were
measured from threshold up to an additional center of mass energy of 40 MeV, at
a value of the photon four-momentum transfer of Q^2= 0.05 GeV^2/c^2 and a
center of mass angle of \theta=90^\circ. By an additional out-of-plane
measurement with polarized electrons \sigma_{LT'} was determined. This showed
for the first time the cusp effect above the \pi^+ threshold in the imaginary
part of the s-wave. The predictions of Heavy Baryon Chiral Perturbation Theory
are in disagreement with these data. On the other hand, the data are somewhat
better predicted by the MAID phenomenological model and are in good agreement
with the dynamical model DMT.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure
A Coherent Interpretation of the Form Factors of the Nucleon in Terms of a Pion Cloud and Constituent Quarks
The recent unbiased measurements of the electric form factor of the neutron
suggest that its shape may be interpreted as a smooth broad distribution with a
bump at Q^2 \approx 0.3(GeV/c)^2 superimposed. As a consequence the
corresponding charge distribution in the Breit frame shows a negative charge
extending as far out as 2fm. It is natural to identify this charge with the
pion cloud. This realisation is then used to reanalyse all old and new data of
the electric and magnetic from factors of the proton and the neutron by a
phenomenological fit and by a fit based on the constituent quark model. It is
shown that it is possible to fit all form factors coherently with both
ansaetzen and that they all show the signal of the pion cloud.Comment: 17 pages, 17 figure
Precise Neutron Magnetic Form Factors
Precise data on the neutron magnetic form factor G_{mn} have been obtained
with measurements of the ratio of cross sections of D(e,e'n) and D(e,e'p) up to
momentum transfers of Q^2 = 0.9 (GeV/c)^2. Data with typical uncertainties of
1.5% are presented. These data allow for the first time to extract a precise
value of the magnetic radius of the neutron.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figures, submitted to Physics Letters
The f_LT Response Function of D(e,e'p)n at Q^2=0.33(GeV/c)^2
The interference response function f_LT (R_LT) of the D(e,e'p)n reaction has
been determined at squared four-momentum transfer Q^2 = 0.33 (GeV/c)^2 and for
missing momenta up to p_miss= 0.29 (GeV/c). The results have been compared to
calculations that reproduce f_LT quite well but overestimate the cross sections
by 10 - 20% for missing momenta between 0.1 (GeV/c) and 0.2 (GeV/c) .Comment: 12 Pages, 10 figure
Coherent \pi^0 threshold production from the deuteron at Q^2 = 0.1 GeV^2/c^2
First data on coherent threshold \pi^0 electroproduction from the deuteron
taken by the A1 Collaboration at the Mainz Microtron MAMI are presented. At a
four-momentum transfer of q^2=-0.1 GeV^2/c^2 the full solid angle was covered
up to a center-of-mass energy of 4 MeV above threshold. By means of a
Rosenbluth separation the longitudinal threshold s wave multipole and an upper
limit for the transverse threshold s wave multipole could be extracted and
compared to predictions of Heavy Baryon Chiral Perturbation Theory.Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures, latex2
Measurement of the Electric Form Factor of the Neutron at Q^2 = 0.3-0.8 (GeV/c)^2
The electric form factor of the neutron, G_En, has been measured at the Mainz
Microtron by recoil polarimetry in the quasielastic D(e_pol,e'n_pol)p reaction.
Three data points have been extracted at squared four-momentum transfers Q^2 =
0.3, 0.6 and 0.8 (GeV/c)^2. Corrections for nuclear binding effects have been
applied.Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures, 2 tables. Accepted for publication in EPJ
Polarization transfer in the HeH reaction
Polarization transfer in the 4He(e,e'p)3H reaction at a Q^2 of 0.4 (GeV/c)^2
was measured at the Mainz Microtron MAMI. The ratio of the transverse to the
longitudinal polarization components of the ejected protons was compared with
the same ratio for elastic ep scattering. The results are consistent with a
recent fully relativistic calculation which includes a predicted medium
modification of the proton form factor based on a quark-meson coupling model.Comment: 5 pages, Latex, 2 postscript figures, submitted to Physics Letters
Final State Interaction Effects in pol 3He(pol e,e'p)
Asymmetries in quasi-elastic pol 3He(pol e,e'p) have been measured at a
momentum transfer of 0.67 (GeV/c)^2 and are compared to a calculation which
takes into account relativistic kinematics in the final state and a
relativistic one-body current operator. With an exact solution of the Faddeev
equation for the 3He-ground state and an approximate treatment of final state
interactions in the continuum good agreement is found with the experimental
data.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures, submitted to Phys. Lett. B, revised version,

Measurement of the LT-asymmetry in \pi^0 electroproduction at the energy of the \Delta (1232) resonance
The reaction p(e,e'p)pi^0 has been studied at Q^2=0.2 (GeV/c)^2 in the region
of W=1232 MeV. From measurements left and right of q, cross section asymmetries
\rho_LT have been obtained in forward kinematics \rho_LT(\theta_\pi^0=20deg) =
(-11.68 +/- 2.36_stat +/- 2.36_sys)$ and backward kinematics
\rho_LT(\theta_\pi^0=160deg) =(12.18 +/- 0.27_stat +/- 0.82_sys). Multipole
ratios \Re(S_1+^* M_1+)/|M_1+|^2 and \Re(S_0+^* M_1+)/|M_1+|^2 were determined
in the framework of the MAID2003 model. The results are in agreement with older
data. The unusally strong negative \Re(S_0+^* M_1+)/|M_1+|^2 required to bring
also the result of Kalleicher et al. in accordance with the rest of the data is
almost excluded.Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures, 4 tables. Changed content. Accepted for
