    : Hypertension is a condition where a person experiences an increase in blood pressure above normal on examination of blood pressure.Research by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia in 2009, the prevalence of hypertension in Indonesia in 2007 reached 32.2 %, while 30.5 % occurred in the North of Sulawesi. Erectile dysfunction is the inability to maintain an erection that is experienced by men due to various factors. Uncontrolled hypertension can damage blood vessels, causing blood vessels lose their elasticity and the volume of blood that flows to the penis during erection. The purpose of the study to determine the effects and erectile dysfunction and treatment in hypertensive men. The method used is descriptive research method. The research took place in the Hypertension Clinic (Internal Medicine) Government General Hospital of Prof. Dr. R. D. Kandou Manado. Samples taken in the study were hypertensive men with the age group 40-65 years. The research is conducted by using the IIEF-5 questionnaire. The number of samples obtained 45 patients with hypertension, with the following results: 11 mild erectile dysfunction (24%), moderate-mild dysfunction 19 people (42%), moderate dysfunction 12 people (27%), severe dysfunction 3 people (7%). This research concludes that all men participating in research, is having an erectile dysfunction

    : Male participation in contraception is still lacking. Pare (Momordica charantia L) is known having an inhibitory effect spermatogenesis and seeds of papaya (Carica papaya L) contain the alkaloid compounds that are anti-fertility, both can be used as a male contraceptive. The purpose of this study was to determine sperm quality comparison Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) were given a fruit extract of pare (Momordica charantia L) with the seed extract of papaya (Carica papaya L). The research used a completely randomized experimental design. There are nine samples of Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) males were divided into three groups and one group consisting three Wistar rats. Over the past 50 days, extracts of pare (Momordica charantia L) is given to the group 1 at 70mg / kg/day, while in the group 2 given seed extract of papaya (Carica papaya L) of 70mg / kg/day and the control group was given no treatment. The results showed significant differences in sperm motility among the treatment groups 1 with extract of bitter melon fruit (Momordica charantia L) and 2 treatment groups with the extract of papaya seeds (Carica papaya L), namely a decrease in sperm motility (p = 0.002). Conclusion, the fruit extract of bitter melon (Momordica charantia L) and seed extract of papaya (Carica papaya L) affects the quality of spermatozoa

    : Vitamin E is an antioxidant for two classes of molecule, namely Tocopherol and Tocotrienol that have role in body nutrient. Purpose of this study was to determine the effect and mechanism of vitamin E on the quality of spermatozoa of mice. This study used a descriptive observational method. The subject of the study consist of 27 mice were divided into 3 groups: group P0 not given temperature exposure and vitamin E, P1 groups given exposure to temperatures of 40°C, P2 groups given exposure to temperatures of 40°C and vitamin E. Treatment carried out for 32 days. The results of research on the P2 group showed improvement in the quality of spermatozoa with a mean concentration of spermatozoa (68.7 x105mL), the mean percentage of normal spermatozoa morphology (61%), the mean percentage of abnormal spermatozoa morphology (39%), the mean percentage spermatozoa motility Ma (38.1%). Conclusion: sperm quality can be improved with vitamin E after exposure to hot temperatures

    Pengaruh Pemberian Cap Tikus Terhadap Kualitas Spermatozoa Wistar Jantan (Rattus Norvegicus)

    : Alcohol is an organic compound that is composed of the elements carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. Usually, the term of alcohol is known as liquor. One of the local products of liquor in Manado is Cap Tikus. This study aims to determine the effect of alcohol 20% on the spermatozoa quality of male Wistar (Rattus norvegicus). The research design was a completely randomized experimental design. The samples were 10 male wistar rats which consisted of 5 rats as a control group and 5 rats as the experiment group. The rats in the experiment group were given Cap Tikus for 52 days, while rats in the control group were given tap water. The results showed that spermatozoa quality from experiment group which includes the concentration of spermatozoa is 24x106 spermatozoa/ml, normal motility of spermatozoa is 23,5% and normal morphology of spermatozoa is 11%. Whereas spermatozoa quality from control group which includes the concentration of spermatozoa is59x106 spermatozoa/ml, normal motility of spermatozoa is 89% and normal morphology of spermatozoa is 97%. Conclusion: Cap Tikus decreased the spermatozoa quality which includes concentration, motility and morphology of spermatozoa. This was due to alcohol interfered the hypothalamus, the anterior pituitary gland and the testes that played an important role in the process of spermatogenesis

    : High temperatures lead to oxidative stress which can decrease the quality of spermatozoa. Mangosteen rind contains polyphenols inter alia xanthones which have antioxidant properties. As free radical scavengers, the xanthones provide fast hydrogen atom movement into the lipid radicals and turn them into more stable forms. This study aimed to determine the effect of extract of mangosteen rind on wistar male sperm quality exposed to heat. This was an experimental study with a posttest randomized control group design. Samples were 6 wistar rats divided into 2 groups: group P0 was exposured to 400C of temperature; group P1 was exposured to the same temperature however the rats were given extract of mangosteen rind. The treatment was done for 52 days. The results showed that P1 group showed some improvement in the quality of spermatozoa with an average concentration of spermatozoa 76.5, x 106 mL, average percentage of motility 82.2%, average percentage of morphologically normal spermatozoa 81.7%, and average percentage of abnormal morphology 18.3%. Conclusion: Extract of mangosteen rind can increase and improve the spermatozoa quality (concentration, motility, and morphology) of wistar rats exposed to heat

    Perbandingan antara Pengaruh Olahraga Berlebihan dan Paparan Asap Rokok terhadap Kualitas Spermatozoa Tikus Wistar (Rattus Norvegicus)

    Olahraga berlebihan dapat menyebabkan peningkatan radikal bebas sebanyak 2–3 kali. Asap rokok dapat meningkatkan radikal bebas serta menurunkan antioksidan dalam cairan semen sehingga dapat mengakibatkan kerusakan DNA melalui fragmentasi DNA seluler. Radikal bebas dapat berasal dari sumber endogen, yaitu pada reaksi reduksi oksidasi normal dalam mitokondria, peroksisom, sedangkan radikal bebas dari sumber eksogen berasal dari asap rokok, inflamasi, dan latihan olahraga berlebihan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbandingan antara pengaruh olahraga berlebihan dan paparan asap rokok terhadap kualitas spermatozoa tikus Wistar (Rattus norvegicus). Jenis penelitian ialah eksperimental dengan post-test only control group design. Sampel penelitian sebanyak 9 ekor tikus wistar (Rattus norvegicus) dibagi menjadi 3 kelompok: kelompok P0 tidak diberikan olahraga berlebihan dan paparan asap rokok; kelompok P1 diberikan olahraga berlebihan intensitas berat; dan kelompok P2 diberikan paparan asap rokok 2 batang. Perlakuan dilakukan selama 50 hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan perbedaan konsentrasi antar kelompok penelitian, namun analisis statistik menunjukkan hasil yang tidak bermakna (P>0,05). Pada motilitas didapatkan hasil bermakna untuk motilitas normal dan abnormal kelompok P0 dan P1 (P=0,002), serta kelompok P0 dan P2 (P=0). Pada morfologi didapatkan hasil bermakna antara kelompok P0 dan P1 (P=0,004). Simpulan: Pemberian olahraga berlebihan dan paparan asap rokok berpengaruh terhadap kualitas spermatozoa tikus Wistar (Rattus norvegicus)

    Pengaruh Pemberian Coklat (Theobroma Cacao) terhadap Kualitas Spermatozoa Tikus Wistar (Rattus Norvegicus) yang Terpapar Stres

    Kandungan coklat, yaitu flavonoid merupakan subgrup dari polifenol yang memiliki efek protektif terhadap spermatozoa dari paparan stres. Jenis flavonoid dalam coklat, (-)-epicatehin berperan dalam menetralisir ROS, memblokir produksi ROS, dan menginhibisi aktivitas enzim DNA methyltransferase. Stres mengaktifkan sistem hipotalamus-pituitari-adrenal (HPA) dan simpatoadrenomedular yang memiliki produk akhir glukokortikoid yang dapat menyebabkan peningkatan katabolisme esensial dan memicu produksi ROS. Stres oksidatif dapat menurunkan motilitas spermatozoa dan menyebabkan kerusakan DNA spermatozoa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian coklat (Theobroma cacao) terhadap kualitas spermatozoa tikus Wistar (Rattus norvegicus) yang terpapar stres. Jenis penelitian ialah eksperimental dengan post-test only control group design. Sampel penelitian ialah spermatozoa tikus Wistar (Rattus norvegicus). Dilakukan perlakuan terhadap 9 ekor tikus Wistar yang dibagi menjadi 3 kelompok, yaitu P0 (kontrol), P1 (perlakuan stres saja), dan P2 (perlakuan stres dan pemberian coklat). Hasil penelitian tidak mendapatkan perbedaan bermakna pada konsentrasi dan motilitas tetapi terdapat perbedaan bermakna pada morfologi spermatozoa tikus Wistar (Rattus norvegicus). Simpulan: Pemberian coklat (Theobroma cacao) berpengaruh terhadap peningkatan kualitas morfologi spermatozoa tikus Wistar (Rattus norvegicus) yang terpapar stres
