Quantum state tomography and quantum logical operations in a three qubits NMR quadrupolar system
In this work, we present an implementation of quantum logic gates and
algorithms in a three effective qubits system, represented by a (I = 7/2) NMR
quadrupolar nuclei. To implement these protocols we have used the strong
modulating pulses (SMP). The various stages of each implementation were
verified by quantum state tomography (QST). It is presented here the results
for the computational base states, Toffolli logic gates, and Deutsch-Jozsa and
Grover algorithms. Also, we discuss the difficulties and advantages of
implementing such protocols using the SMP technique in quadrupolar systems.Comment: 24 pages, 8 figure

Adsorption of yellow lanasol 4g reactive dye in a simulated textile effluent on gallinaceous feathers
Adsorption is one of the most efficient physicochemical processes known to remove colour in textile industry effluents. Activated charcoal is conventionally the most used material for this purpose and although its efficiency is very high also is its price. The aim of this study was to know the variables that influence the adsorption process of wool reactive dye Yellow Lanasol 4G in a simulated textile effluent, on an inexpensive and abundant material, gallinaceous feathers, so as to optimize the operating conditions. Factorial experimentation within a certain domain was used to determine the influence level of several parameters, such as, temperature, initial pH of the solution, "size" and adsorbent's concentration and their interactions. A statistical analysis of the results showed that within the selected domain all the parameters have influence at a significance level of 1% excepting initial pH that only has influence at a significance level of 5%. Some of the possible interactions between these parameters also have significant influence on the adsorption process specially first order ones, including significance levels of 5 and 1%. In industrial practice it will be possible to take advantage of the prominent effect of a temperature increase on adsorption capacity as effluents of wool dyeing baths are already at an elevated temperature. Besides that as the influence of "granulometry" becomes rather smaller for higher temperatures there will be no need to grind the adsorbent. This means then that optimization of operating conditions in industrial wastewaters treatment using the studied adsorption technique will not imply additional costs except those concerning pH adjustment. This emphasizes the importance of gallinaceous feathers as an alternative to activated carbon.(undefined
Digital magnetic heterostructures based on GaN using GGA-1/2 approach
We present ab-initio calculations of seven digital magnetic heterostructures, GaN delta-doped with V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, and Cu, forming two-dimensional systems. Only GaN delta-doped with V or Cr present a ferromagnetic ground state with high Curie temperatures. For both, to better describe the electronic properties, we used the GGA-1/2 approach. The ground state of GaN/Cr resulted in a two dimensional half-metal, with 100% spin polarization. For GaN/V, we obtained an insulating state: integer magnetic moment of 2.0 mu(B), a minority spin gap of 3.0 eV close to the gap of GaN, but a majority spin gap of 0.34 eV. Unsteady undular bores in fully nonlinear shallow-water theory
We consider unsteady undular bores for a pair of coupled equations of
Boussinesq-type which contain the familiar fully nonlinear dissipationless
shallow-water dynamics and the leading-order fully nonlinear dispersive terms.
This system contains one horizontal space dimension and time and can be
systematically derived from the full Euler equations for irrotational flows
with a free surface using a standard long-wave asymptotic expansion.
In this context the system was first derived by Su and Gardner. It coincides
with the one-dimensional flat-bottom reduction of the Green-Naghdi system and,
additionally, has recently found a number of fluid dynamics applications other
than the present context of shallow-water gravity waves. We then use the
Whitham modulation theory for a one-phase periodic travelling wave to obtain an
asymptotic analytical description of an undular bore in the Su-Gardner system
for a full range of "depth" ratios across the bore. The positions of the
leading and trailing edges of the undular bore and the amplitude of the leading
solitary wave of the bore are found as functions of this "depth ratio". The
formation of a partial undular bore with a rapidly-varying finite-amplitude
trailing wave front is predicted for ``depth ratios'' across the bore exceeding
1.43. The analytical results from the modulation theory are shown to be in
excellent agreement with full numerical solutions for the development of an
undular bore in the Su-Gardner system.Comment: Revised version accepted for publication in Phys. Fluids, 51 pages, 9

Homogeneous Gold Catalysis through Relativistic Effects: Addition of Water to Propyne
In the catalytic addition of water to propyne the Au(III) catalyst is not
stable under non-relativistic conditions and dissociates into a Au(I) compound
and Cl2. This implies that one link in the chain of events in the catalytic
cycle is broken and relativity may well be seen as the reason why Au(III)
compounds are effective catalysts.Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures, 1 tabl

Neuropharmacological effects of essential oil from the leaves of Croton conduplicatus Kunth and possible mechanisms of action involved.
Ethnopharmacological relevance: Croton conduplicatus Kunth (Euphorbiaceae) is a Brazilian aromatic medicinal plant, widely known as ?quebra-faca?. In folk medicine, its leaves and stem-barks are used as a natural analgesic for the treatment of headaches. Aim of the study: In this study, we describe for the first time the neuropharmacological potential of the essential oil obtained from the leaves of Croton conduplicatus (EO) in experimental models of pain, anxiety and insomnia. The mechanisms of action involved in these activities were also investigated
