    Sentiment-Based Semantic Rule Learning for Improved Product Recommendations

    Crucial data like product features and opinions that are obtained from consumer online reviews are annotated with the concepts of product review opinion ontology (PROO). The ontology with instance data serves as background knowledge to learn rule-based sentiments that are expressed on product features. These semantic rules are learned on both taxonomical and nontaxonomical relations available in PROO ontology. These rule-based sentiments provide important information of utilizing the relationship among the product features ‘as-a-unit’ to improve the sentiments of the parent features. These parent features are present at the higher level near the root of the ontology. The sentiments of the related product features are also improved. This approach improves the sentiments of the parent features and the related features that eventually improve the aggregated sentiment of the product. The result is either the change in the position of the product in the list of similar products recommended or appears in the recommended list. This helps the user to make correct purchase decisions

    Data mining on large databases has been a major concern in research community. To overcome the difficulty of analyzing huge amounts of data, classification is done on the datasets. In our project, we have used two classification algorithms ID3 and MLP. We focused on applying the concept of ID3 algorithm to find the nodes in the decision tree and back-propagation to calculate the weights of artificial neural network. These concepts are used for training the decision tree and artificial neural network classifiers for PIMA dataset. The classifiers thus obtained from training phase are tested. Then the corresponding accuracies are calculated and compared to find the efficient algorithm among ID3 and MLP

    Polycarbonate (PC) and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) are thermoplastic materials with very good impact resistance properties and excellent optical clarity. Monolithic PMMA is nevertheless brittle, and PC is used as a substitute in applications where impact resistance is very critical. However, PC is expensive when compared to PMMA.     Climate change is connected to several negative effects on local environments around the globe such as, longer, and more intense droughts, less freshwater supplies, ocean warming, sea level rise, polar ice melting, more intense storms, and rainfall (NASA, 2021).  These problems are mainly due to the increasing amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere as well as other greenhouse gases (GHG) which cause a similar or stronger climate change effect (WWF, 2021). Practically all climate researchers agree that climate change is caused by human activities (WWF, 2021), as such human activities will have to change to reduce their climate impact. One possible approach to achieve sustainable products is the concept of a circular economy (CE). The proponents of a circular economy describe it as an economic or industrial system which is restorative by its design (EMF, 2010). Currently there is a substantial body of knowledge on how LCA can be used to guide product design in a sustainable direction.  However, as of yet there are limited academic research focused on how environmental assessment can impact the design of Vertical Access Equipment (VAE) and of similar products. This thesis aims to support the VAE sector’s transition towards a CE. The objective of this study was to understand and provide improvement suggestions for the environmental performance and energy use of VAE. This Involved a case study where a LCA was conducted to establish a baseline of four VAE products, a construction hoist, a service lift, an industrial elevator, and a BMU. The results of the initial LCA varied greatly depending on the different products and their use case. Guided by the LCA results, semi-structured workshops were held to find feasible improvement suggestions whose impacts were investigated using LCA once more. Feasible and substantial improvements focusing on the products high impact areas were found for all products. For the construction hoist improvements regarding eliminating waste in the lifting work was most impactful, whilst the service lift required optimizing of maintenance and use of sensors to reduce the maintenance time. For the industrial elevator and the BMU, measures which focused on reducing virgin material extraction showed most promise, such as lifespan extension, remanufacturing, and use of recycled materials.Mistra REE

    Association of stress, salivary cortisol, and chronic periodontitis: A clinico-biochemical study

    Background: Periodontitis and stress are among the areas of increasing interest over the past two decades. Early detection of these diseases plays a crucial role in successful therapy. Cortisol is a protein which was found to be consistently associated with both. Aim: The present study was aimed to evaluate saliva cortisol levels (SCLs) in chronic periodontitis (CP) patients with and without stress. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, saliva samples were collected and cortisol levels were determined using ELISA method in 92 participants. The participants were divided into four groups based on periodontal condition (number of teeth present, plaque index (PI), bleeding on probing (BOP), probing pocket depth, and clinical attachment level) and stress levels into Group 1 (no periodontitis and no stress), Group 2 (with periodontitis and no stress), Group 3 (without periodontitis and with stress), and Group 4 (with periodontitis and stress). Results: Overall, 92 adult participants (41 males and 51 females) were included in the study. Participants with stress and periodontitis have high mean SCL when compared to other groups (Group 1: 15.01 ± 2.62, Group 2: 31.92 ± 6.80, Group 3: 34.47 ± 13.47, and Group 4: 60.13 ± 6.68). Group I shows a significant negative correlation of cortisol to BOP, stress to PI, and stress to cortisol level, whereas there is a positive correlation of SCL to PD in Group 4 which is not statistically significant. Conclusion: SCL showed difference among the groups. SCL were associated with both CP and psychological stress. Increase in inflammation and stress levels enhances the SCL

    Knowledge, attitudes, and practice behaviors of medical specialists for the relationship between diabetes and periodontal disease: A questionnaire survey

    Introduction: Increased risk of periodontal disease has been associated with diabetes mellitus (DM) and also periodontitis is considered as the sixth complication of DM. Medical physicians may have an advantageous position compared to the dentists to provide early patient counseling about oral health because patients attend medical offices more often than to dental offices and are more likely to be affiliated to medical than to dental insurance. Hence, the medical practitioners should have sufficient knowledge in this regard. The study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practice behaviors of endocrinologists, general medicine practitioners, and diabetologists on the relationship between periodontal disease and DM. Materials and Methods: Data were collected from sixty participants practicing in Nellore, using a structured questionnaire survey. The obtained data were analyzed through percentages. Results: All the participants (100%) were aware that there existed a relation between oral health and general health. However, only 17.8% (10) of the participants refer their patients to dentists without patients asking for referral. Conclusion: The endocrinologists were aware of the didactic relationship, whereas general medicine practitioners and diabetologists are not much well-equipped with the knowledge on relationship between DM and periodontitis. There exists a wide gap between their practice behaviors and current scientific evidence. Therefore, more emphasis must be made by medical practitioners for the diabetic patient toward periodontal health which is most important yet neglected aspect of comprehensive health care
