urbana nacional. Neste estudo é argumentado
que a distribuição territorial das Instituições
de Ensino Superior Público (IESP) em Portugal
é determinante para melhorar a desigualdade
de oportunidades de acesso ao ensino superior
público, principalmente das regiões rurais
do interior do paÃs.
superiores a 30 km.
e interior do paÃs.
Abstract: In Portugal the distribution of higher education institutions
greatly overlay the national urban network. In this
study it is argued that the current distribution of Public Higher
Education Institutions (IESP) in Portugal is crucial to
offer equal opportunities to public higher education access,
especially in rural areas of the countryside. To this end, a
spatial analysis using the network analysis in a Geographic
Information System was performed to determine the areas
of coverage of each IESP with both distance (15 and 30 km)
and time (15, 30 and 40 minutes) criteria. As a result, it was
found one IESP by district at least however 75% of the territorial
space to IESP access was at a travel distances greater
than 30 km. In 55% of territorial space IESP access was at a
time travel over 40 minutes. It was confirmed a notorious
network asymmetry between the coast and inland. The vast
majority of IESP at a distance of 30 km or less between
them were located on the coast (98%), in which 72% at the
districts of Lisbon and Setúbal. It was emphasized the need
in one hand, to define access rules to higher education that
give primacy to higher education institutions public access
and in other hand, to encourage higher education access
over the poorest regions of the country

Hedonic methodologies in the real estate valuation
Several models have been used to estimate the market value of real estate
properties, with the aim of obtaining better measures of the price of transaction
than the official figures calculated for fiscal purposes. Hedonic models are well
known techniques for estimating values of complex goods, as a house. Here they are
focused on flats and apartments sold between 2005 and 2009 in a medium size portuguese
city; sample data have been collected in collaboration with real estate
agents, both for new and non-new houses, using transaction prices. Several internal
and external characteristics of each property are included in the models, and the
methodology can be extended to other cities alike in the country.Foundation for Science and Tecnolog

A ten years analysis of cork oak (Quercus suber L.) afforestation projects in the Mediterranean region of centre-eastern of Portugal
Portuguese forest area has a great expression being around 39%. Since the last centuries the Quercus suber L.(cork oak) areas have increased, reaching to 715 922 ha (23%) according to the last National forest inventory. Afforestation programmes financed by the European Union and the existing protection laws for the species are one of the main reasons for this increase. These efforts are important to promote for these stands a distribution by age class that ensure cork oak forest sustainability (only 14% of the existing even-aged stands are young stands with less than 10 years). In this study, the programme – Afforestation of Agricultural Land – in the region of Beira Interior Sul was analysed, to assess afforestation success during the period of 2001 to 2011
Experimental study for determining the parameters required for detecting ECG and EEG related diseases during the timed-up and go test
The use of smartphones, coupled with different sensors, makes it an attractive solution for measuring different physical and physiological features, allowing for the monitoring of various parameters and even identifying some diseases. The BITalino device allows the use of different sensors, including Electroencephalography (EEG) and Electrocardiography (ECG) sensors, to study different health parameters. With these devices, the acquisition of signals is straightforward, and it is possible to connect them using a Bluetooth connection. With the acquired data, it is possible to measure parameters such as calculating the QRS complex and its variation with ECG data to control the individual’s heartbeat. Similarly, by using the EEG sensor, one could analyze the individual’s brain activity and frequency. The purpose of this paper is to present a method for recognition of the diseases related to ECG and EEG data, with sensors available in off-the-shelf mobile devices and sensors connected to a BITalino device. The data were collected during the elderly’s experiences, performing the Timed-Up and Go test, and the different diseases found in the sample in the study. The data were analyzed, and the following features were extracted from the ECG, including heart rate, linear heart rate variability, the average QRS interval, the average R-R interval, and the average R-S interval, and the EEG, including frequency and variability. Finally, the diseases are correlated with different parameters, proving that there are relations between the individuals and the different health conditions.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
