    Inverted ILM Flap Technique in Optic Disc Pit Maculopathy

    Purpose: To present the outcome of optic disc pit maculopathy (ODPM) managed successfullywith an inverted internal limiting membrane (ILM) flap over the optic disc. A narrative review ofODPM pathogenesis and surgical management techniques are also provided. Case Report: This prospective interventional case series included three eyes of three adultpatients (25–39 years old) with unilateral ODPM and a mean duration of unilaterally decreasedvisual acuity of 7.33 ± 2.40 months (4–12 months). The pars plana vitrectomy with posteriorvitreous detachment induction was performed on eyes, followed by an inverted ILM flap insertionover the optic disc and gas tamponade. Patients were followed for 7–16 weeks postoperatively;best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) improved dramatically in one patient from 2/200 to 20/25.BCVA in other patients improved two and three lines – to 20/50 and 20/30, respectively. Asignificant anatomical improvement was achieved in all three eyes, and no complication wasdetected throughout the follow-up period. Conclusion: Vitrectomy with inverted ILM flap insertion over the optic disc is safe and can yieldfavorable anatomical improvement in patients with ODPM

    Idiopathic multifocal choroiditis (MFC) and/or punctate inner choroidopathy (PIC) describe a chronic progressive bilateral inflammatory chorioretinopathy that predominantly affect healthy myopic white women with no known associated systemic or ocular diseases. The principal sites of involvement are the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and outer retinal spaces; the choroid is not affected during the active phase of the disease. Idiopathic MFC with atrophy is a recently described variant. Although there is no generally accepted standard treatment, anti-inflammatory and anti-VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) agents are necessary in the acute stage to control the inflammation and choroidal neovascularization (CNV)

    Upper Eyelid Silicone Oil Migration After Sutureless 23-Gauge Vitrectomy

    To report a case of upper eyelid swelling and ptosis caused by silicone oil migration in a patient after sutureless 23-gauge pars plana vitrectomy and silicone oil injection. A 36-year-old female was referred to eye clinic with total retinal detachment (RD) and superotemporal giant dialysis secondary to trauma in the left eye. Transconjunctival sutureless 23-gauge pars plana vitrectomy and intraocular silicone oil (1300 centistokes) injection were performed. After about 5 months, she came back with the left upper eyelid and periorbital swelling. Palpation of the eyelid revealed soft and mobile subcutaneous small lumps that were not attached to the skin. Computed tomography scan of the orbit showed an 11 mm × 8 mm soft tissue density mass in lateral aspect of the left orbit. Transcutaneously surgical exploration was performed. The patient was seen after 1 week postoperatively and there was a significant improvement of the ptosis. Eyelid swelling and ptosis caused by silicone oil migration after RD surgery are very rare and this is one of the few reports in literature

    Citrate as a naturally occurring ion with important biological roles, especially in metabolic cycles, and as an important biomarker in the early diagnosis of many diseases, including prostate cancer, has received special attention. In the present study, a novel, sensitive, fast and simple colorimetric bisazo-based chemosensor was developed for sequential determination and naked-eye detection of Cu2+ and citrate. UV-Vis spectroscopic studies showed that Reactive Red 141 (RR141) exhibits high selectivity and sensitivity towards Cu2+ in the presence of many other cations in deionised water (10 mmol L−1 MES(2-(N-morpholino)ethanesulfonic acid)/NaOH buffer solution, pH 6.0) and complex real samples as well. The obvious colorimetric response while interaction with copper and citrate is due to complexation between RR141 and Cu2+, and then the citrate detection occurred through metal transfer from the RR141-Cu2+ towards the citrate anion releasing RR141 via an indicator displacement route. The mechanism of detection has been carefully investigated using the semi-empirical calculation method of MM2 molecular mechanics. The proposed detection method for citrate ion has a detection limit of 0.15 µmol L−1 and a satisfactory linear range of 1.92–45.96 µmol L−1, which is consistent with the desired average diagnostic concentration in prostate cancer (less than 2 mmol L−1). Our studies’ results indicate the high capability of the developed chemical sensor for quantitative and qualitative citrate detection in various complex media, including biological and clinical real samples.</p
