Temporal correlator in YM^2_3 and reflection-positivity violation
We consider numerical data for the lattice Landau gluon propagator obtained
at very large lattice volumes in three-dimensional pure SU(2) Yang-Mills gauge
theory (YM^2_3). We find that the temporal correlator C(t) shows an oscillatory
pattern and is negative for several values of t. This is an explicit violation
of reflection positivity and can be related to gluon confinement. We also
obtain a good fit for this quantity in the whole time interval using a sum of
Stingl-like propagators.Comment: 3 pages, 1 figure, 1 table, presented by A.R. Taurines at the IX

Synthesis of powellite-rich glasses for high level waste immobilization
International audienceIncreasing amounts of MoO3 were added to SiO2-B2O3-Na2O-CaO-Al2O3 glasses in order to trap molybdenum as powellite (nominally CaMoO4). Different heat treatments were performed to study their influences on powellite crystallization by X-ray diffraction and EPR. The glass compositions studied in this work lead to glass-ceramics rich in CaMoO4, up to [MoO3] = 5 mol% no poorly durable Na2MoO4 phase was identified by XRD. Trivalent actinides surrogates (Gd3+) were observed to incorporate into CaMoO4 crystals
Microstructure of Powellite-Rich Glass-Ceramics: A Model System for High Level Waste Immobilization
International audienceIn this study, we synthesized glass-ceramics from glasses in the system SiO 2-B 2 O 3-Na 2 O-CaO-Al 2 O 3-MoO 3-Gd 2 O 3 by various heat treatments. Glass-ceramics contain only one crystalline phase in the bulk: powellite (namely CaMoO 4). The influence of molybdenum and rare earth contents was studied by SEM and XRD. Heat treatments were optimized to lead to a wide range in size and concentration of powellite. Moreover, the molybdenum content left in residual glasses, calculated by XRD quantification, showed that the residual glasses have a similar composition for a given Gd 2 O 3 content after heat treatments. This work has permitted to synthesize two phase glass-ceramics with constant borosilicate glass matrices and powellite crystals with controlled sizes and concentrations
Small quark stars in the chromodielectric model
Equations of state for strange quark matter in beta equilibrium at high
densities are used to investigate the structure (mass and radius) of compact
objects. The chromodielectric model is used as a general framework for the
quark interactions, which are mediated by chiral mesons, and , and by a confining chiral singlet dynamical field, . Using a
quartic potential for , two equations of state for the same set of model
parameters are obtained, one with a minimum at around the nuclear matter
density and the other at . Using the latter
equation of state in the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equations we found
solutions corresponding to compact objects with km and . The phenomenology of recently discovered X-ray sources is compatible
with the type of quark stars that we have obtained.Comment: 8 pages, AIP macros; Talk delivered at the Pan American Advanced

Color superconductivity and quark stars
The search for new phases of strange quark matter inside neutron stars has recently received a lot of attention since it has been shown that the attractive nature of the one gluon exchange interaction in QCD may produce a superconducting phase in quark matter. We study an extended version of the Chromodielectric model with a BCS quark pairing implemented, and analyze the superconducting color flavor locked phase. We show that the inclusion in the free energy density of a negative term of the diquark condensate ensures the stability of quark matter. We explore the implications of our results in the structure of compact quark stars and explicitly show that CFL stars can be absolutely stable and more compact than strange stars.http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/B6TVB-4P2S5YJ-42/1/2224f7def9aa4492b89649257e90be2
Metastable strange matter and compact quark stars
Strange quark matter in beta equilibrium at high densities is studied in a
quark confinement model. Two equations of state are dynamically generated for
the {\it same} set of model parameters used to describe the nucleon: one
corresponds to a chiral restored phase with almost massless quarks and the
other to a chiral broken phase. The chiral symmetric phase saturates at around
five times the nuclear matter density. Using the equation of state for this
phase, compact bare quark stars are obtained with radii and masses in the
ranges km and . The energy per baryon number
decreases very slowly from the center of the star to the periphery, remaining
above the corresponding values for the iron or the nuclear matter, even at the
edge. Our results point out that strange quark matter at very high densities
may not be absolutely stable and the existence of an energy barrier between the
two phases may prevent the compact quarks stars to decay to hybrid stars.Comment: to appear on J. Phys.
Naturally ventilated geothermal foundation modeling
AbstractThis work is concerning the modeling of a heat and mass transfer within a new kind of Canadian well, a geothermal foundation, and its coupling with a solar chimney. The foundation model is based on a 3D finite volume method. A long term simulation is necessary, aiming to precisely understand the behaviour of this combined system. Since this model requires high computational resources, we propose to use a domain decomposition technique and the balanced realization reduction method to speed up computational time. The studied case shows this system seems to be relevant to supply cold air to buildings during summer
