    Ferromagnetism and Superconductivity in Quark Matter - Color magnetic superconductivity -

    A coexistent phase of spin polarization and color superconductivity in high-density QCD is studied at zero temperature. The axial-vector self-energy stemming from the Fock exchange term of the one-gluon-exchange interaction has a central role to cause spin polarization. As a significant feature, the Fermi surface is deformed by the axial-vector self-energy and then rotation symmetry is spontaneously broken down. The gap function results in being anisotropic in the momentum space in accordance with the deformation. It is found that spin polarization barely conflicts with color superconductivity, and almost coexists with it.Comment: Proc. of Int. Workshop, "Finite Density QCD", 200

    Landau-Peierls instability in a Fulde-Ferrell type inhomogeneous chiral condensed phase

    We investigate the stability of an inhomogeneous chiral condensed phase against low energy fluctuations about a spatially modulated order parameter. This phase corresponds to the so-called dual chiral density wave in the context of quark matter, where the chiral condensate is spatially modulated with a finite wavevector in a single direction. From the symmetry viewpoint, the phase realizes a locking of flavor and translational symmetries. Starting with a Landau-Ginzburg-Wilson effective Lagrangian, we find that the associated Nambu-Goldstone modes, whose dispersion relations are spatially anisotropic and soft in the direction normal to the wavevector of the modulation, wash out the long-range order at finite temperatures, but support algebraically decaying long-range correlations. This implies that the phase can exhibit a quasi-one-dimensional order as in liquid crystals.Comment: 24page

    Immunopharmacological properties of Oren-gedoku-to (a Kampo medicine, Huang-Lian-Jie-Du-Tang) on contact hypersensitivity reaction in mice

    We investigated the effects of Oren-gedoku-to (Huang-Lian-Jie-Du-Tang), a Kampo medicine, on DNFB-induced contact hypersensitivity (CHS) response in mice in order to further clarify the immunopharmacological properties of this formulation. 1) Administration of Oren-gedoku-to decreased the magnitude of ear swelling in the CHS response and shortened the affected period. The inhibitory effect on ear swelling was observed even when Oren-gedoku-to was given orally with different timing schedules. 2) The expressions of mRNAs for CD8, IFN-7 and TNF-α in the ear of Oren-gedoku-to-treated mice were markedly decreased 24 h after the challenge. 3) The number of skin-draining regional lymph node cells (LNCs), CD4^+ T cells and CD8^+ T cells was decreased without affecting the ratio of CD8^+/CD4^+ T cells. 4) Oren-gedoku-to resulted in a marked impairment of the hapten-specific development of LNCs. These results suggest that the suppressive effect of Oren-gedoku-to on ear swelling was partly caused by the suppression of lymphocyte proliferation. 接触過敏反応(CHS)に対する黄連解毒湯の抑制効果について検討した。1g/kgの黄連解毒湯を感作日より連続投与することで,DNFB塗布による耳介の腫脹は軽減し,その持続時間も短縮した。また,黄連解毒湯の投与期間を変更(感作後0-2日間あるいは4-6日間の投与)しても抑制効果が認められた。耳介局所では,黄連解毒湯の連続投与により,CD8,IFN-γおよびTNF-αのmRNA発現は減弱した。所属リンパ節では,全リンパ節細胞,CD8^+T細胞,CD4^+T細胞の数が減少したが,CD8/CD4比に変化はみられなかった。さらに,リンパ節細胞のハプテン特異的な増殖能は抑制された。以上の結果より,黄連解毒湯のCHSの抑制効果にハプテン特異的リンパ球の増殖抑制が関与していると考えられた

    The HPB-AML-I cell line possesses the properties of mesenchymal stem cells

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>In spite of its establishment from the peripheral blood of a case with acute myeloid leukemia (AML)-M1, HPB-AML-I shows plastic adherence with spindle-like morphology. In addition, lipid droplets can be induced in HPB-AML-I cells by methylisobutylxanthine, hydrocortisone, and indomethacin. These findings suggest that HPB-AML-I is similar to mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) or mesenchymal stromal cells rather than to hematopoietic cells.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>To examine this possibility, we characterized HPB-AML-I by performing cytochemical, cytogenetic, and phenotypic analyses, induction of differentiation toward mesenchymal lineage cells, and mixed lymphocyte culture analysis.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>HPB-AML-I proved to be negative for myeloperoxidase, while surface antigen analysis disclosed that it was positive for MSC-related antigens, such as CD29, CD44, CD55, CD59, and CD73, but not for CD14, CD19, CD34, CD45, CD90, CD105, CD117, and HLA-DR. Karyotypic analysis showed the presence of complicated abnormalities, but no reciprocal translocations typically detected in AML cases. Following the induction of differentiation toward adipocytes, chondrocytes, and osteocytes, HPB-AML-I cells showed, in conjunction with extracellular matrix formation, lipid accumulation, proteoglycan synthesis, and alkaline phosphatase expression. Mixed lymphocyte culture demonstrated that CD3<sup>+ </sup>T-cell proliferation was suppressed in the presence of HPB-AML-I cells.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>We conclude that HPB-AML-I cells appear to be unique neoplastic cells, which may be derived from MSCs, but are not hematopoietic progenitor cells.</p
