Modeling the effects of education wıth artificial neural networks on anxiety level of coronary angiography patients: A randomized controlled trial
Background: It is thought that the education to be given before the angiography procedure decreases the patients’ anxietylevel and increases effectively their continuation and adaptation to the medical treatment. Objective: To evaluate the effectsof education provided to coronary angiography patients on their state-trait anxiety level, the results of the studies obtainedexperimentally were processed with artificial neural networks (ANN). Design: This study was experimental research.Setting: The study was carried out at Angiography Unit, Heart Hospital of Erciyes University. Participants: Hundred patientswere included in the study; 50 experimental and 50 control group. Intervention: It was trained that experimental groups’ allthe patients by researcher. Measurements: The data of the research were collected with a questionnaire form and state-traitanxiety inventory form. In addition to statistical analysis, a modeling system from obtained statistical results is implementedusing ANN. Results: The average state-trait anxiety scores before the angiography procedure decreased after the angiographyprocedure for the experimental group, whereas those anxiety scores of the control group before the angiography procedureincreased after the procedure. Furthermore, the estimation of results is performed very successful in the ratio of 99% by ANNsystem. Conclusion: It was seen that the education provided before the angiography procedure was effective on the state-traitanxiety levels after the angiography. This study presented that artificial intelligence algorithms based on an ANN could be usedin systems that analyzed social and health problems
Use of herbs or vitamin/mineral supplements by patients with cancer in Kayseri, Turkey
This cross-sectional study was performed to determine the consumption rate, duration, and methods of herb or vitamin/mineral use by patients with cancer and to evaluate the effects of alternative therapies in Kayseri, Turkey. A face-to-face interviews was conducted with 203 patients. Results showed that 32% and 18.2% of the patients used herbs or vitamin/mineral supplements, respectively. Nettle was the most commonly used herb, and iron and vitamin C were the most commonly used supplements. There was a significant difference between herb or vitamin/mineral users and nonusers with regard to educational levels. In conclusion, patients with cancer highly tended to use herb or vitamin/mineral supplements
Results of the reproductive health education program for soldiers and noncommissioned officers
The Turkish Armed Forces Commando Brigade has started a continuous and systematic education program, called the Patriotic Awareness Acquirement Project (PCAP), to inform soldiers who will be demobilized. Within the PCAP, topics such as Turkish history, the Armenian question, and manners/etiquette, as well as healthy living, reproductive health, family planning, general hygiene, and sexually transmitted diseases were included. The aim of Reproductive Health Education (RHE) conducted within the PCAP is to inform male individuals about reproductive health and to increase their knowledge, awareness, and sensitivity. In the RHE, the privates were provided with information regarding male and female reproductive organs, the menstruation mechanism, pregnancy, determination of gender, fertility-infertility, and sexually transmitted diseases. After the evaluation, it was reported that the privates indicated they were satisfied with RHE, were informed, took notice of the incorrect information, and, for posimilitary life, would visit health clinics for counseling
