    Quality of Life and its Relation to Self-Esteem for a Sample of Drugs Addicts

    The study aimed to identify the quality of life and its relation to self-esteem for a sample of drug addicts, as well as the differences between returning to addiction once and returning to addiction more than once in these variables. The study sample consisted of 70 male drug addicts using tramadol, cannabis, and alcohol who frequented the drug treatment center of the anti-narcotics program in Jordan. Two scales were used to assess the quality of life and self- esteem. The study results showed a significant correlation between quality of life and self-esteem. Moreover, the results showed that there were statistically significant differences between the means of drug addicts in favor of addiction once and those returning to addiction more than once in both quality of life and self-esteem for the drug addicts returning to addiction once

    Comparison of auditory steady-state responses with conventional audiometry in older adults

    Behavioral measures, such as pure-tone audiometry (PTA), are commonly used to determine hearing thresholds, however, PTA does not always provide reliable hearing information in difficult to test individuals. Therefore, objective measures of hearing sensitivity that require little-to-no active participation from an individual are needed to facilitate the detection and treatment of hearing loss in difficult to test people. Investigation of the reliability of the auditory steady-state response (ASSR) for measuring hearing thresholds in older adults is limited. This study aimed to investigate if ASSR can be a reliable, objective measure of frequency specific hearing thresholds in older adults. Hearing thresholds were tested at 500 Hz, 1000 Hz, 2000 Hz, and 4000 Hz in 50 participants aged between 60 and 85 years old, using automated PTA and ASSR. Hearing thresholds obtained from PTA and ASSR were found to be significantly correlated (p \u3c .001) in a cohort consisting of participants with normal hearing or mild hearing loss. ASSR thresholds were significantly higher as compared to PTA thresholds, but for the majority of cases the difference remained within the clinically acceptable range (15 dB). This study provides some evidence to suggest that ASSR can be a valuable tool for estimating objective frequency-specific hearing thresholds in older adults and indicate that ASSR could be useful in creating hearing treatment plans for older adults who are unable to complete behavioral PTA. Further research on older adults is required to improve the methodological features of ASSR to increase consistency and reliability, as well as minimize some of the limitations associated with this technique

    In current decades, the size and complexity of network traffic data have risen significantly, which increases the likelihood of network penetration. One of today's largest advanced security concerns is the botnet. They are the mechanisms behind several online assaults, including Distribute Denial of Service (DDoS), spams, rebate fraudulence, phishing as well as malware attacks. Several methodologies have been created over time to address these issues. Existing intrusion detection techniques have trouble in processing data from speedy networks and are unable to identify recently launched assaults. Ineffective network traffic categorization has been slowed down by repetitive and pointless characteristics. By identifying the critical attributes and removing the unimportant ones using a feature selection approach could indeed reduce the feature space dimensionality and resolve the problem.Therefore, this articledevelops aninnovative network attack recognitionmodel combining an optimization strategy with machine learning framework namely, Grey Wolf with Artificial Bee Colony optimization-based Support Vector Machine (GWABC-SVM) model. The efficient selection of attributes is accomplished using a novel Grey wolf with artificial bee colony optimization approach and finally the Botnet DDoS attack detection is accomplished through Support Vector machine.This articleconducted an experimental assessment of the machine learning approachesfor UNBS-NB 15 and KDD99 databases for Botnet DDoS attack identification. The proposed optimized machine learning (ML) based network attack detection framework is evaluated in the last phase for its effectiveness in detecting the possible threats. The main advantage of employing SVM is that it offers a wide range of possibilities for intrusion detection program development for difficult complicated situations like cloud computing.     Prevalence of Self-Reported and Doctor-Diagnosed Food Allergies among Schoolchildren Aged 6-14 in Al-Karak Governorate: A Questionnaire-Based Survey

    Food allergies are common in children and could be potentially fatal. This study used a cross-sectional questionnaire-based survey to estimate the prevalence of self-reported and doctor-diagnosed food allergies. Its further aim was to identify the common food allergens and food allergy symptoms among schoolchildren aged 6-14 in Al-Karak Governorate in South Jordan. Among the 1241 children evaluated, the overall prevalence of self-reported food allergy of 11.2% was determined, while the prevalence of doctor-diagnosed food allergy was 3.4%.     Coping Strategies of Jordanian Adolescents With Cancer: An Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis Study

    Interpretive phenomenological analysis methodology was used to explore coping strategies used by hospitalized Jordanian adolescents with cancer. In-depth face-to-face interviews were conducted with 10 Jordanian adolescents, aged 13 to18 years, who were receiving chemotherapy for cancer. During treatment, participants were confronted with physical, psychosocial, and emotional distresses resulting from the disease process, the treatment, and its associated side-effects. To cope with the impact of their illness, participants utilized 4 coping strategies: "Strengthening spiritual convictions," "Being optimistic and rebuilding hope," "Enhancing appearance," and "Finding self again." The findings of this study can assist health team members to promote positive psychological care to Arab Muslim adolescents with cancer in a supportive and therapeutic treatment environment

    Intersection Geometric Design and Operational Guidelines for Older Drivers and Pedestrians, Volume I: Final Report

    DTFH61-92-C-00142This project was performed to develop guidelines for changes in the geometric design and operations at intersections with the greatest potential to aid in their use by older drivers and pedestrians. A literature review identified age-related diminished capabilities that affect performance at intersections, and examined current design standards and their adequacy for older road users. Problem identification studies (accident database analysis, task analysis, focus group discussions, field observations) were conducted to better define older persons' difficulties in intersection use, and an expert panel met to prioritize variables for more extensive laboratory and field studies later in the project. These studies subsequently focused on age (including both young-old and old-old groups) and the effects of opposite left-turn lane geometry (offset amount and direction), right-turn channelization and curb radius, and varying median pedestrian refuge island configurations, using both objective (performance) and subjective measures. A critique of the data obtained in these studies during a second expert panel meeting concluded that sufficient evidence exists to support guidelines for: (1) geometric design to ensure a minimum required sight distance for drivers turning left from a major roadway, and (2) operational changes to accommodate older drivers where (re)design of an intersection to meet sight distance requirements is not feasible. In addition, a revision of Case V in the AASHTO Green Book to determine sight distance requirements that reflect the perceptual task of gap judgment by a left-turning driver more accurately than the current assumptions in Case IIIB is recommended, and further research needs to enhance the safety and mobility of older road users at intersections are identified
