DIVE in the cosmic web: voids with Delaunay Triangulation from discrete matter tracer distributions

We present a novel parameter-free cosmological void finder (\textsc{dive}, Delaunay TrIangulation Void findEr) based on Delaunay Triangulation (DT), which efficiently computes the empty spheres constrained by a discrete set of tracers. We define the spheres as DT voids, and describe their properties, including an universal density profile together with an intrinsic scatter. We apply this technique on 100 halo catalogues with volumes of 2.5\,h1h^{-1}Gpc side each, with a bias and number density similar to the BOSS CMASS Luminous Red Galaxies, performed with the \textsc{patchy} code. Our results show that there are two main species of DT voids, which can be characterised by the radius: they have different responses to halo redshift space distortions, to number density of tracers, and reside in different dark matter environments. Based on dynamical arguments using the tidal field tensor, we demonstrate that large DT voids are hosted in expanding regions, whereas the haloes used to construct them reside in collapsing ones. Our approach is therefore able to efficiently determine the troughs of the density field from galaxy surveys, and can be used to study their clustering. We further study the power spectra of DT voids, and find that the bias of the two populations are different, demonstrating that the small DT voids are essentially tracers of groups of haloes.Comment: 12 pages, 13 figure

Efficient Semantic-based Content Search in P2P Network

    Get PDF
Most existing Peer-to-Peer (P2P) systems support only title-based searches and are limited in functionality when compared to today’s search engines. In this paper, we present the design of a distributed P2P information sharing system that supports semantic-based content searches of relevant documents. First, we propose a general and extensible framework for searching similar documents in P2P network. The framework is based on the novel concept of Hierarchical Summary Structure. Second, based on the framework, we develop our efficient document searching system, by effectively summarizing and maintaining all documents within the network with different granularity. Finally, an experimental study is conducted on a real P2P prototype, and a large-scale network is further simulated. The results show the effectiveness, efficiency and scalability of the proposed system.Singapore-MIT Alliance (SMA

In this paper, we give the explicit formulas for the Neuman means NAHN_{AH}, NHAN_{HA}, NACN_{AC} and NCAN_{CA}, and present the best possible upper and lower bounds for theses means in terms of the combinations of harmonic mean HH, arithmetic mean AA and contraharmonic mean CC.Comment: 9 page

    Sliding-Mode Perturbation Observer-Based Sliding-Mode Control for VSC-HVDC Systems

    Get PDF
This chapter develops a sliding-mode perturbation observer-based sliding-mode control (POSMC) scheme for voltage source converter-based high voltage direct current (VSC-HVDC) systems. The combinatorial effect of nonlinearities, parameter uncertainties, unmodeled dynamics, and time-varying external disturbances is aggregated into a perturbation, which is estimated online by a sliding-mode state and perturbation observer (SMSPO). POSMC does not require an accurate VSC-HVDC system model and only the reactive power and DC voltage at the rectifier side while reactive and active powers at the inverter side need to be measured. Additionally, a considerable robustness can be provided through the real-time compensation of the perturbation, in which the upper bound of perturbation is replaced by the real-time estimation of the perturbation, such that the over-conservativeness of conventional sliding-mode control (SMC) can be effectively reduced. Four case studies are carried out on the VSC-HVDC system, such as active and reactive power tracking, AC bus fault, system parameter uncertainties, and weak AC gird connection. Simulation results verify its advantages over vector control and feedback linearization sliding-mode control. Then, a dSPACE-based hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test is undertaken to validate the implementation feasibility of the proposed approach

Summary of a Topical Forum FAQ Based on the Chinese Composition Structure

    Get PDF
An automatic multiple-document summarization system for producing frequently asked questions (FAQ) of a topical forum can save forum Webmasters a great deal of time in theory. This work will address summary composition issue of a previous work by proposing a structured presentation based on a four-part pattern of traditional Chinese articles. The result of the experiment shows that the enhanced system with both domain-terminology corpus methods produced a significantly better summary presentation than the original system. Recall rate and precision rate performance indices and user evaluations are also presented and discussed to show their practical implications

Linear redshift space distortions for cosmic voids based on galaxies in redshift space

    Get PDF
Cosmic voids found in galaxy surveys are defined based on the galaxy distribution in redshift space. We show that the large scale distribution of voids in redshift space traces the fluctuations in the dark matter density field \delta(k) (in Fourier space with \mu being the line of sight projected k-vector): \delta_v^s(k) = (1 + \beta_v \mu^2) b^s_v \delta(k), with a beta factor that will be in general different than the one describing the distribution of galaxies. Only in case voids could be assumed to be quasi-local transformations of the linear (Gaussian) galaxy redshift space field, one gets equal beta factors \beta_v=\beta_g=f/b_g with f being the growth rate, and b_g, b^s_v being the galaxy and void bias on large scales defined in redshift space. Indeed, in our mock void catalogs we measure void beta factors being in good agreement with the galaxy one. Further work needs to be done to confirm the level of accuracy of the beta factor equality between voids and galaxies, but in general the void beta factor needs to be considered as a free parameter for RSD studies.Comment: 10 pages, 9 figures; matches the version accepted by PR
