    Observations of HONO by laser-induced fluorescence at the South Pole during ANTCI 2003

    Observations of nitrous acid (HONO) by laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) at the South Pole taken during the Antarctic Troposphere Chemistry Investigation (ANTCI), which took place over the time period of Nov. 15, 2003 to Jan. 4, 2004, are presented here. The median observed mixing ratio of HONO 10 m above the snow was 5.8 pptv (mean value 6.3 pptv) with a maximum of 18.2 pptv on Nov 30th, Dec 1st, 3rd, 15th, 17th, 21st, 22nd, 25th, 27th and 28th. The measurement uncertainty is ±35%. The LIF HONO observations are compared to concurrent HONO observations performed by mist chamber/ion chromatography (MC/IC). The HONO levels reported by MC/IC are about 7.2 ± 2.3 times higher than those reported by LIF. Citation: Liao, W., A. T. Case, J. Mastromarino, D. Tan, and J. E.     Consuming Asia: Culinary tourism, soft power and mediation of Peranakan TV

    This paper examines the role of East Asian pop culture flows in boosting the soft power of Asian nations. Specifically, it explores the role of television dramas and pop culture in promoting heritage culinary heritage tourism. While much has been discussed on the globalizing appeal of Korean pop culture in boosting Korean tourism and cultural consumption, little has been studied within the context of Southeast Asian countries’ indigenous cultures such as the Peranakan culture in Singapore. This study examines the nostalgic and culinary appeal of The Little Nyonya , a regionally successful locally-produced Peranakan TV drama from Singapore, and suggests that if media and tourism policies were better integrated, Singapore’s unique, multicultural heritage and culture could be a source of soft power and tourism attraction, attracting both viewers and visitors to Singapore

    (k,q)-Compressed Sensing for dMRI with Joint Spatial-Angular Sparsity Prior

    Advanced diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (dMRI) techniques, like diffusion spectrum imaging (DSI) and high angular resolution diffusion imaging (HARDI), remain underutilized compared to diffusion tensor imaging because the scan times needed to produce accurate estimations of fiber orientation are significantly longer. To accelerate DSI and HARDI, recent methods from compressed sensing (CS) exploit a sparse underlying representation of the data in the spatial and angular domains to undersample in the respective k- and q-spaces. State-of-the-art frameworks, however, impose sparsity in the spatial and angular domains separately and involve the sum of the corresponding sparse regularizers. In contrast, we propose a unified (k,q)-CS formulation which imposes sparsity jointly in the spatial-angular domain to further increase sparsity of dMRI signals and reduce the required subsampling rate. To efficiently solve this large-scale global reconstruction problem, we introduce a novel adaptation of the FISTA algorithm that exploits dictionary separability. We show on phantom and real HARDI data that our approach achieves significantly more accurate signal reconstructions than the state of the art while sampling only 2-4% of the (k,q)-space, allowing for the potential of new levels of dMRI acceleration.Comment: To be published in the 2017 Computational Diffusion MRI Workshop of MICCA
