    Experimental study of oscillating SD8020 foil for propulsion

    The thrust producing performance and efficiency of an SD8020 oscillating foil with a symmetrical saw-tooth angle of attack pitching profile was studied through force and torque measurements, as well as dye flow visualization, in the water tunnel at low Reynolds number of 13,000-16,000. The propulsive efficiency and thrust coefficient of the pitching foil were determined as a function of the Strouhal number, pitch amplitude and angular frequency. A propulsive efficiency of 30% was obtained experimentally at low Strouhal numbers. The flow visualization has revealed different wake patterns at various Strouhal numbers and can be classified into three regimes – a drag wake, a transition wake and a thrust wake. The drag wake consists of a combination of a regular Kármán street and an array of ‘primary’ stop-start vortices, whereas the thrust wake consists of a reverse Kármán vortex street, commonly observed in swimming fish. The transition wake regime, which occurs at approximately 0.2 < St < 0.5, is interpreted as a momentum balanced wake, where the thrust developed by the foil approximately balances its produced drag. This wake was observed to either consist of an inclined vortex street, or a paired vortex pattern. Based on the force and efficiency data collected, increasing pitch amplitude and angular frequency was associated with a decrease in propulsive efficiency and an increase in thrust forces produced. A high efficiency value of 0.3, accompanied by a thrust coefficient of order one is found at a low pitch amplitude of 10°, angular frequency of 0.79 rad/s and Strouhal number of 0.05. This presented the best conditions for thrust production observed at low Strouhal and Reynolds numbers

    Semi-classical States in Homogeneous Loop Quantum Cosmology

    Semi-classical states in homogeneous loop quantum cosmology (LQC) are constructed by two different ways. In the first approach, we firstly construct an exponentiated annihilation operator. Then a kind of semi-classical (coherent) state is obtained by solving the eigen-equation of that operator. Moreover, we use these coherent states to analyze the semi-classical limit of the quantum dynamics. It turns out that the Hamiltonian constraint operator employed currently in homogeneous LQC has correct classical limit with respect to the coherent states. In the second approach, the other kind of semi-classical state is derived from the mathematical construction of coherent states for compact Lie groups due to Hall.Comment: 13 pages, submitted to CQ

    Characterization of carbon nanotubes synthesized from hydrocarbon-rich flame

    The present study focuses on the characterization of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) synthesized from flame under an atmospheric condition. A laminar flame burner was utilized to establish a rich premixed propane/air flame at the equivalence ratio Φ = 1.8-2.2. The flame was impinged on a stainless steel wire mesh coated with nickel (Ni) catalyst to grow CNTs. Distribution and yield of the CNTs on the substrate were quantified. Carbon nanotubes formed on the substrate were harvested and characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The FESEM micrograph showed that the CNTs produced were in disarray. The synthesized CNTs were an average of 50-60 nm in diameter while the length of the tubes was in the order of microns. TGA analysis showed that 75% of CNTs were present in the sample and the oxidation temperature was 510°C

    Legal consequence caused by a legal marriage is that the child, born from it, will be a legitimate child who has civil law relationship with the parents. On the other hand, an illegal marriage will not have any ralationship with legal consequence. A child from an illegal marriage will become the target of social law caused by the biological mother and the genetic father. The position of as child plays an important part in a marriage although the father may not recognize his child when the latter comes from an illegal marriage. The recognition of a child's position is merely as a ‘recognized child' (natuurlijk erkendkind) and not as a legitimate child (wettig kind) without being followed by a legal marriage. It can be formulated some problems as followed : 1) how about the background of a child's position from an illegal marriage in the study of positive law, 2) how about the recognition of an illegitimate child's position in the study of positive law, and 3) how about the implementation of an illegitimate child's civil right in the study of positive law. Research better way to solved problem or to find answer from principal deduce and then systematic planning. Methodology is a logic based from scientific research. From the result of the research, it can be concluded that for the case which needs the provision of a marriage, judges do not need to refer to the Ruling of the Constitusional Court No. 46/PUU-VIII/2010. They only needs to examine the completesness of evidence and hears witnesses who are prensented as applicants. For the case of recognizing an illegitimate child, judges refer to the Ruling of the Constitusional Court No. 46/PUU-VIII/2010 as the consideration for the sake of the child

    Exciton energy transfer in nanotube bundles

    Photoluminescence is commonly used to identify the electronic structure of individual nanotubes. But, nanotubes naturally occur in bundles. Thus, we investigate photoluminescence of nanotube bundles. We show that their complex spectra are simply explained by exciton energy transfer between adjacent tubes, whereby excitation of large gap tubes induces emission from smaller gap ones via Forster interaction between excitons. The consequent relaxation rate is faster than non-radiative recombination, leading to enhanced photoluminescence of acceptor tubes. This fingerprints bundles with different compositions and opens opportunities to optimize them for opto-electronics.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
