Looking up at seesaw and GUT scales from TeV

    Get PDF
In this talk, I discuss how we may approach physics at the seesaw- and GUT-scales using data from the TeV scale. Even though we cannot hope to directly reach these energy scales using particle accelerators, we may get convinced of grand unification and seesaw mechanism based on experimental data if Nature is kind to us. In addition, we may find compelling reason to believe in leptogenesis based on experimental data. This cannot be achieved by a single experiment, but rather a collection of them, based on LHC, ILC, neutrino oscillation, neutrinoless double beta decay, direct dark matter detection, CMB power spectrum and its tensor mode.Comment: Proceedings of "Grand Unified Theories: Current Status and Future Prospects: An International Workshop", Kusatsu, Shiga, Japan, 17-19 December 200

67歳男, 腫瘤の形成はなく, 精管に沿って発生した精索平滑筋腫の1例.精索に発生した平滑筋腫でこのような特異な形態を呈した症例は文献上報告がなく, 本症例が最初の報告であるWe report an unusual case of a leiomyoma of the spermatic cord. The tumor did not present as a mass but presented as a hard structure along the spermatic cord. To our knowledge, this is the first case report of a leiomyoma of the spermatic cord with such an unusual appearance

Assembly Sequence Planning by Probabilistic Tree Transformation

    Get PDF
Various types of computer systems including CAD/CAM systems have been introduced in machine industry. Some of the systems can handle assembly sequence planning, however it requires long time for planning. This paper proposes a method of generating assembly sequences efficiently. This method extracts some parts and/or subassemblies whose possibilities of being removed from a product are strong, and tests whether they can be removed without any geometric interference. By performing these operations repeatedly, the method generates a disassembly sequence of the product, and obtains an assembly sequence by reversing it. The extraction of some parts and/or subassemblies is performed, based on probabilistic tree transformation. The authors present a calculation example by using a software tool integrated with a CAD system

    Phase equilibria for H2 + CO2 + H2O system containing gas hydrates

    Get PDF
Isothermal phase equilibrium (pressure-composition in the gas phase) for the ternary system of H2 + CO2 + H2O has been investigated in the presence of gas hydrate phase. Three-phase equilibrium pressure increases with the H2 composition of gas phase. The Raman spectra suggest that H2 is not enclathrated in the hydrate-cages and behaves only like the diluent gas toward the formation of CO2 hydrate. This fact is also supported by the thermodynamic analysis using Soave-Redlich-Kwong equation of state. © 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved

Tropical Rainfall Measurement Mission (TRMM) Operation Summary

The Tropical Rainfall Measurement Mission (TRMM) is a joint U.S. and Japan mission to observe tropical rainfall, which was launched by H-II No. 6 from Tanegashima in Japan at 6:27 JST on November 28, 1997. After the two-month commissioning of TRMM satellite and instruments, the original nominal mission lifetime was three years. In fact, the operations has continued for approximately 17.5 years. This paper provides a summary of the long term operations of TRMM

Low fat intake is associated with pathological manifestations and poor recovery in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to clarify whether dietary deviation is associated with pathological manifestations in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. METHODS: Dietary intake was estimated in 35 HCC cases before and after hospitalization by referencing digital camera images of each meal. Pathological conditions were evaluated in nitrogen balance, non-protein respiratory quotient (npRQ), neuropsychiatric testing and recovery speed from HCC treatment. RESULTS: On admission, nitrogen balance and npRQ were negative and less than 0.85, respectively. Five patients were judged to have suffered from minimal hepatic encephalopathy that tended to be associated with a lowered value of npRQ (p = 0.082). The energy from fat intake showed a tendency of positive correlation with npRQ (p = 0.11), and the patients with minimal hepatic encephalopathy took significantly fewer energy from fat (p = 0.024). The energy difference from fat between diets at home versus those in the hospital showed a significant positive correlation with npRQ change after admission (p = 0.014). The recovery speed from invasive treatments for HCC showed a significant negative correlation with npRQ alteration after admission (p = 0.0002, r = −0.73). CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest the lower fat intake leads to deterioration of energy state in HCC patients, which associates with poor recovery from invasive treatments and various pathological manifestations

Balenine, Imidazole Dipeptide Promotes Skeletal Muscle Regeneration by Regulating Phagocytosis Properties of Immune Cells

Balenine is one of the endogenous imidazole dipeptides derived from marine products. It is composed of beta-alanine and 3-methyl-L-histidine, which exist mainly in the muscles of marine organisms. The physiological functions of dietary balenine are not well-known. In this study, we investigated whether the supplementation of dietary balenine was associated with muscle function in a cardiotoxin-indued muscle degeneration/regeneration model. Through morphological observation, we found that the supplementation of balenine-enriched extract promoted the regeneration stage. In addition, the expression of regeneration-related myogenic marker genes, such as paired box protein 7, MyoD1, myogenin, and Myh3, in a group of mice fed a balenine-enriched extract diet was higher than that in a group fed a normal diet. Moreover, the supplementation of balenine-enriched extract promoted the expression of anti-inflammatory cytokines as well as pro-inflammatory cytokines at the degeneration stage. Interestingly, phagocytic activity in the balenine group was significantly higherthan that in the control group in vitro. These results suggest that balenine may promote the progress of muscle regeneration by increasing the phagocytic activity of macrophages
