Automotive Stirling engine development program: A success
The original 5-yr Automotive Stirling Engine Development Program has been extended to 10 years due to reduced annual funding levels. With an estimated completion date of April 1988, the technical achievements and the prospectives of meeting the original program objectives are reviewed. Various other applications of this developed Stirling engine technology are also discussed
The Sensitivity Analysis of the Optimal Length of Life -the Numerical Approach-.
This paper solves the pure consumption Grossman model numerically following dynamic programming method, and undertakes sensitivity analysis of the optimal length of life. This is the first analysis that treats the determination of optimal length of life explicitly with numerical analysis.MATHEMATICS ; LIFE
Existence of a phase transition under finite magnetic field in the long-range RKKY Ising spin glass DyYRuSi
A phase transition of a model compound of the long-range Ising spin glass
(SG) DyYRuSi, where spins interact via the RKKY
interaction, has been investigated. The static and the dynamic scaling analyses
reveal that the SG phase transition in the model magnet belongs to the
mean-field universality class. Moreover, the characteristic relaxation time in
finite magnetic fields exhibits a critical divergent behavior as well as in
zero field, indicating a stability of the SG phase in finite fields. The
presence of the SG phase transition in field in the model magnet strongly
syggests that the replica symmetry is broken in the long-range Ising SG.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, to be published in JPSJ (2010
Can a gravitational wave and a magnetic monopole coexist?
We investigate the behavior of small perturbations around the Kaluza-Klein
monopole in the five dimensional space-time. We find that the even parity
gravitational wave does not propagate in the five dimensional space-time with
Kaluza-Klein monopole provided that the gravitational wave is constant in the
fifth direction. We conclude that a gravitational wave and a U(1) magnetic
monopole do not coexist in five dimensional Kaluza-Klein spacetime.Comment: 10 pages, LaTeX. To appear in Modern Physics Letters
