    THE EFFECT OF ACTIVE LEARNING ACTIVITIES ON THE PERFORMANCE AND MOTIVATION OF VIOLA STUDENTS

    In this study, it is aimed to determine the effects of active learning activities on viola students' performance and motivation. One group pretest-posttest experimental design was used in the study. The study group consist of 10 students, 7 of them receiving Viola training within the scope of the Individual Instrument course at Gaziosmanpaşa University Fine Arts Education Department Music Education Department and 3 students within the scope of Turkish and Western Music Instruments course at Tokat Fine Arts and Sports High School. During the eight-week practice, with the students in the study group, active learning-based activities which are prepared for the viola training were carried out with students in the study group. In the study, as a means of data collection, by adapting ‘Exam Performance’ dimension of ‘Violin Lesson Performance Form’ to the viola, the ‘Motivation Scale’ part of ‘Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire’ were used. According to the results of the study, it was determined that the activities based on active learning increased viola performance success, and influenced the students' motivation for viola lesson positively

    Intranodal palisaded myofibroblastoma (intranodal hemorrhagic spindle cell tumor with amianthoid fibers): a case report and literature review

    Intranodal palisaded myofibroblastoma (IPM) is a benign mesenchymal neoplasm originating from smooth muscle cells and myofibroblasts. It is characterized by spindle cells, amianthoid fibers, and by the proliferation of hemosiderin-containing histiocytes in the lymph node. A nodular lesion was excised from the inguinal region of an 80-year-old male patient. Macroscopic examination of a section of the lesion demonstrated a solid appearance with hemorrhagic areas. Microscopic examination revealed spindle cell proliferation, amianthoid fibers, hemosiderin pigment, and extravasated erythrocytes. Nuclei of the spindle cells displayed a palisaded appearance. Compressed lymphoid tissue was observed around the lesion. With Masson's trichrome, spindle cells stained as smooth muscle, whereas collagen staining was observed in homogeneous eosinophilic accumulations. Neoplastic cells were identified by the presence of vimentin and SMA. The Ki67 index was less than 1%. In light of these results, the case was diagnosed as "intranodal palisaded myofibroblastoma." IPM is an uncommon neoplasm originating from the stromal component of the lymph node. Although IPM is benign, it is frequently confused with metastatic lesions

    The Analysis of Patients Operated for Frontal Sinus Osteomas

    Objective:Paranasal sinus osteomas are benign tumors that are smooth-walled, slow-growing, and induced by bone tissue. Although their most common localization is the frontal sinus, some osteomas are seen in the ethmoid, maxillary, and sphenoid sinuses. Frontal sinus osteomas are often asymptomatic; however, when they become symptomatic, headache is the most common complaint. In this study, we aimed to analyze the postoperative results of patients who were diagnosed with frontal sinus osteoma and were operated with appropriate surgical techniques.Methods:We retrospectively evaluated 14 patients who were diagnosed with frontal sinus osteoma and were operated in our department between March 2009 and July 2014. The following parameters were analyzed: patients’ age and gender, complaints at the time of admission to our clinic, pathological findings from physically examination, tumor features observed in preoperative paranasal sinus computed tomography (size and localization), surgical methods applied, intra- and postoperative complications, and recurrence rates. All patients preoperatively provided informed consent.Results:Of the 14 patients, 7 were males and 7 were females, with a mean age of 40.57 years. A total of 11 (79%) osteomas were located within the frontal sinus and 3 (21%) within the frontal recess. External surgical approach was performed to 11 patients, endoscopic approach was performed to 2 patients and external and endoscopic approach was performed to 1 patient together.Conclusion:Although the preferred surgical method in frontal sinus osteoma depends depended on size and localization of tumors, experience of surgeon is also important. Although the external surgical approach is appropriate for large and laterally localized osteomas, the endoscopic approach is appropriate for small and inferomedially localized osteomas. In both surgical approaches the site of origin should be drilled

    Lingual Osseous Choristoma

    An osseous choristoma is a rare benign lesion consisting of normal bone tissue; it is seen in abnormal locations. It is most often seen in the posterior 1/3 of the tongue in the head. Its etiopatogenesis is controversial, and till date, less than 100 cases have been reported in the literature. Although a lingual osseous choristoma is asymptomatic, in some patients, symptoms such as swelling sensation in the throat, globus pharyngeus, dysphagia, retching, nausea, and sore throat have been reported. In this article, a 41-yearold female patient admitted to our clinic with throat pain and globus pharyngeus who underwent an excision from the region of radix lingua and the result of histopathological examination was reported as "osseous choristoma" was presented and related literature is reviewed

    Competence-oriented course design and monitoring: The approach of Erasmus Plus project “better e-learning for all”

    Erasmus Plus Project Better e-Learning for All aims at contributing to the reduction of the gap between the potential value of E-learning and the quality of design of online courses. Departing from research findings in dropout, motivation and retention factors, a conceptual approach to course design was developed and applied to the Better-e MOODLE environment.     Highly regular hexagonally-arranged nanostructures on Ni-W alloy tapes upon Irradiation with ultrashort UV laser pulses

    This article belongs to the Special Issue Dynamics and Processes at Laser-Irradiated Surfaces—A Themed Issue in Honor of the 70th Birthday of Professor Jürgen Reif.Nickel tungsten alloy tapes (Ni—5 at% W, 10 mm wide, 80 µm thick, biaxially textured) used in second-generation high temperature superconductor (2G-HTS) technology were laser-processed in air with ultraviolet ps-laser pulses (355 nm wavelength, 300 ps pulse duration, 250–800 kHz pulse repetition frequency). By employing optimized surface scan-processing strategies, various laser-generated periodic surface structures were generated on the tapes. Particularly, distinct surface microstructures and nanostructures were formed. These included sub-wavelength-sized highly-regular hexagonally-arranged nano-protrusions, wavelength-sized line-grating-like laser-induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS, ripples), and larger irregular pyramidal microstructures. The induced surface morphology was characterized in depth by electron-based techniques, including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron back scatter diffraction (EBSD), cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy (STEM/TEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS). The in-depth EBSD crystallographic analyses indicated a significant impact of the material initial grain orientation on the type of surface nanostructure and microstructure formed upon laser irradiation. Special emphasis was laid on high-resolution material analysis of the hexagonally-arranged nano-protrusions. Their formation mechanism is discussed on the basis of the interplay between electromagnetic scattering effects followed by hydrodynamic matter re-organization after the laser exposure.
