    Mobile, should publishers bother?

    Get PDF
The paper starts with a review of print publishing – how the process worked and the skills needed. It then focuses on the future of electronic publishing and the need to standardize the structure and format, including the use of metadata and style sheets. Lastly the focus is on the issues to consider such as new skills needed, additional costs and how to protect your content. The bottom line is that technology is part of life now and there is a need to innovate and conceptualize its use for tomorrow

Stimulus Dependence in Mirror Neuron Systems

This study examined how stimuli content (emotionally expressive face and body images) influenced the location of mirror neuron activity as indexed by EEG mu-wave suppression. Participants completed an emotion-identification task in which they viewed black and white images of bodies and faces and identified them as displaying either fear or anger while their brain activity was recorded with EEG. This study predicted that emotional face stimuli would produce mu-wave suppression in posterior areas of the brain while expressive gestural-based body stimuli would produce suppression in the more central areas of the brain. EEG analysis indicated that both face and body stimuli induced significant mu-wave suppression, but face and body stimuli did not differ in amount of mu-wave suppression across regions of interest. Keywords: mirror neurons, electroencephalography, faces, bodie

Transition Guide and Supports for Families of Adolescents with Disabilities

Often when individuals with disabilities transitioned out of high school, there were a variety of repeated questions that teachers and administrators seemed to constantly be answering each year. The first goal of the project was to answer those questions and potentially serve as a resource for teachers and other professionals to answer the questions parents/guardians were asking them. Another goal was that even if the information was different for their district it could at the very least guide professionals and families in the right direction to find answers and support. The literature review provides information about parent/guardian and teacher collaboration which was important when creating a plan to help a student with a disability transition out of high school. The literature also covers the importance of transition and resources that would help professionals, teachers, and families understand what was incorporated into transition

Comparative Morphology of the Two Species of Grasshopper Mice, Genus Onychomys, in New Mexico

    Get PDF
Inasmuch as individual specimens of the cricetid genus Onychomys Baird are frequently difficult to identify to species even using the commonly used key characters, a total of 376 grasshopper mice was examined to determine how and to what extent the two species, O. leucogaster and O. torridus, differ from each other in New Mexico. To this end, 31 measurements (cranial, skeletal, and hair) and ratios were ascertained for each individual. The nearly 12,000 figures were summarized by constructing 161 modified Dice-Lerass diagrams

Trained nurse preceptors ’ perceptions of a preceptorship training programme offered by a university in the Western Cape

The School of Nursing at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) and the Directorate of Nursing Services in the Western Cape Department of Health undertook a collaborative project to strengthen the clinical teaching skills of professional nurses in the province. A preceptorship training programme was developed by the school and professional nurses from public hospitals and higher education institutions attended the training. It was, however, unclear whether they perceived a change in clinical teaching skills following the training. The purpose of this research was to explore the trained nurse preceptors’ perceptions of the preceptorship training programme offered by UWC. The objectives were to compile a profile of the participants and to describe their perceived changes in knowledge, skills and attitudes as a result of the training. A qualitative approach was used to carry out an exploratory, descriptive and contextual study. An abstraction tool was used to compile profiles of the participants from records. Purposive sampling was used to select participants from tertiary, regional and district hospitals for three focus group discussions. The data showed that the 80 trained preceptors would be able to precept 1 600 students in the province. Five themes emerged from the qualitative data, relating to the change in knowledge about clinical teaching; change in clinical teaching skills; change in attitude; self-awareness; and training challenges. It is recommended that the preceptorship training programme remains a collaborative project.Web of Scienc
