[EN] Since the discovery of HIV and AIDS, considerable progress has been made in understanding biology of the virus and disease, and also in developing effective treatments. Never the less, this infection still has very profound effects on psychological, social, and economic level. Some important examples of stigma and psychosocial aspects of the disease are depicted in this movie. Common bias where HIV is associated exclusively with the gay community and deviant behaviour is emphasised, as well as deficient basic education about sexually transmitted diseases in general. Psychosocial issues of HIV infection, stigma and discrimination are discussed thoroughly. Despite the low seroprevalence, Croatia possesses particular attributes that could foster a growth of the infected population, so informing the public about all aspects of the disease through movies and other forms of public health actions is crucial.

[EN] Tito’s break-up with Stalin in 1948 marked the beginning of not only confusing, but also very dangerous years for many hard-core Yugoslav communists. A careless remark about the newspaper cartoon is enough for Mesha to join many arrested unfortunates. His family is now forced to cope with the situation and wait for his release from prison. The story is told from the perspective of Malik, his young son who believes the mother’s story about father being “away on business”

Abdominal aortic aneurysm rupture is known to have high operative mortality. It is, therefore, imperative to unravel risk factors affecting mortality and to develop a model for outcome prediction. The aim of this study was to develop a model for prediction of operative mortality in ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms, by combining statistical and data mining methods. Variables potentially affecting mortality were investigated by retrospective analysis of medical records of patients operated due to the aortic aneurysm rupture between 1996. and 2010. in clinical Hospital Center Zagreb. Two novel models of operative mortality have been developed, with better discriminatory power then the previously published ones on our patient sample. Hints of other potentially relevant variables have also been discovered. A simple preoperative prediction model, containing only two variables ("Age", "Loss of consciousness") was shown to have good discriminatory ability on prospective validation. We consider it to be a good model for clinical usage in our institution, as well as a good starting point for developing a national prediction model. Integration of data mining with medical statistics also represents a methodological advancement in the domain of ruptured aortic aneurysms and in similar fields. Results of this study could improve the quality control process, reporting standardization, rational health resource utilisation, and, hopefully, unravel new, potentially correctible factors affecting operative mortality

Informing global health diplomacy: examining health and peace through the lens of the global burden of disease

In this study, we aimed to examine the interconnectedness of health and peace, recognizing its significance within global health diplomacy, international relations, and human rights. For that purpose, we used the results from previous and ongoing Global Burden of Disease studies, which represent a comprehensive systematic appraisal of health problems and risks affecting populations worldwide. This paper could use its methodological underpinnings to analyze the impact of war, conflict, and terrorism on mortality and overall human health. In 2000, war and conflict were responsible for an estimated 310,000 deaths globally, compared to 2019, when this number decreased to 69,000. Recent findings reinforced the association between war, conflict, and increased all-cause mortality. Interpersonal violence also significantly contributed to human health loss resulting from disrupted peace. In Europe, disability-adjusted life years due to injury - including those caused by conflict - declined between 2000 and 2019. As we prioritize global health, peace-building initiatives, and global health diplomacy, big data will increasingly play a substantial role in accurately predicting and describing the health effects related to conflicts
