In their article «Rethinking Daughter of the River in the English-speaking World», Liu Rong and Yang Tian analyse the subject content, feminist thought, and narrative style in this novel. Domestic studies focus on the subject and content, feminist thought, the style of narratology, and so forth, while English reviews and research mainly concentrate on the life of suffering of the Chinese underclass described in the novel. The reason for the differing focus lies in the English world’s attempt to confirm its sense of superiority or coercive mimeticism. Moreover, the feminist consciousness is studied by critics and researchers who are deeply concerned with female misery in Hong Ying’s works. The strong public response relates somewhat to the bold and straightforward erotic descriptions in this novel.

Nuclear modification of high-p_T hadron spectra in p+A collisions at LHC

Multiple parton scatterings in high-energy p+A collisions involve multi-parton correlation inside the projectile and color coherence of multiple jets which will lead to nuclear modification of final hadron spectra relative to that in p+p collisions. Such modification of final hadron spectra in p+A collisions is studied within HIJING 2.1 model which includes initial parton shadowing, transverse momentum broadening, parton flavor and momentum correlation inside the projectile through flavor and momentum conservation and fragmentation of multiple jets. They are shown to modify the partonic flavor content of final jets and momentum spectra of final hadrons in p+A collisions at the Large Hadron Collider.Comment: 4 pages in RevTex with 4 figures, LHC pPb collision energy is changed to 5TeV and additional figures are adde

Hadron production in p+p, p+Pb, and Pb+Pb collisions with the HIJING 2.0 model at energies available at the CERN Large Hadron Collider

The HIJING (Heavy-ion Jet Interaction Generator) Monte Carlo model is updated with the latest parton distributions functions (PDF) and new set of the parameters in the two-component mini-jet model that controls total p+pp+p cross section and the central pseudorapity density. We study hadron spectra and multiplicity distributions using the HIJING 2.0 model and compare to recent experimental data from p+pp+p collisions at the LHC energies. We also give predictions of hadron production in p+pp+p, p+Pbp+Pb and Pb+PbPb+Pb collisions at the full LHC energy.Comment: 9 pages in RevTex with 11 postscript figures, updated with new results and some new data are included in comparison. The title is changed in this versio

Perilla (Perilla frutescens (L.) Britt.) is one of the traditional medicinal and edible plants in China.Perilla oil, extracted from the seed of perilla, contains the highest concentration of alpha-linolenic acid. It has huge market development potential in food, medicine and many other industries. With the continuous advancement and development of the big health industry, perilla oil byproducts have played an increasing role our lives. This paper comprehensively and systematically reviews the extraction process, chemical composition, pharmacological effects, development and application of perilla oil, to guide applications of perilla oil

Assessment of Cardiac Function and Energetics in Isolated Mouse Hearts Using 31P NMR Spectroscopy

Bioengineered mouse models have become powerful research tools in determining causal relationships between molecular alterations and models of cardiovascular disease. Although molecular biology is necessary in identifying key changes in the signaling pathway, it is not a surrogate for functional significance. While physiology can provide answers to the question of function, combining physiology with biochemical assessment of metabolites in the intact, beating heart allows for a complete picture of cardiac function and energetics. For years, our laboratory has utilized isolated heart perfusions combined with nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy to accomplish this task. Left ventricular function is assessed by Langendorff-mode isolated heart perfusions while cardiac energetics is measured by performing 31P magnetic resonance spectroscopy of the perfused hearts. With these techniques, indices of cardiac function in combination with levels of phosphocreatine and ATP can be measured simultaneously in beating hearts. Furthermore, these parameters can be monitored while physiologic or pathologic stressors are instituted. For example, ischemia/reperfusion or high workload challenge protocols can be adopted. The use of aortic banding or other models of cardiac pathology are apt as well. Regardless of the variants within the protocol, the functional and energetic significance of molecular modifications of transgenic mouse models can be adequately described, leading to new insights into the associated enzymatic and metabolic pathways. Therefore, 31P NMR spectroscopy in the isolated perfused heart is a valuable research technique in animal models of cardiovascular disease
