Regulating Mobile Mental Health Apps
Mobile medical apps (MMAs) are a fastâgrowing category of software typically installed on personal smartphones and wearable devices. A subset of MMAs are aimed at helping consumers identify mental states and/or mental illnesses. Although this is a fledgling domain, there are already enough extant mental health MMAs both to suggest a typology and to detail some of the regulatory issues they pose. As to the former, the current generation of apps includes those that facilitate selfâassessment or selfâhelp, connect patients with online support groups, connect patients with therapists, or predict mental health issues. Regulatory concerns with these apps include their quality, safety, and data protection. Unfortunately, the regulatory frameworks that apply have failed to provide coherent riskâassessment models. As a result, prudent providers will need to progress with caution when it comes to recommending apps to patients or relying on appâgenerated data to guide treatment
Application of advanced technologies to derivatives of current small transport aircraft
Mission requirements of the derivative design were the same as the baseline to readily identify the advanced technology benefits achieved. Advanced technologies investigated were in the areas of propulsion, structures and aerodynamics and a direct operating cost benefit analysis conducted to identify the most promising. Engine improvements appear most promising and combined with propeller, airfoil, surface coating and composite advanced technologies give a 21-25 percent DOC savings. A 17 percent higher acquisition cost is offset by a 34 percent savings in fuel used
Almost Commuting Orthogonal Matrices
We show that almost commuting real orthogonal matrices are uniformly close to
exactly commuting real orthogonal matrices. We prove the same for symplectic
unitary matrices. This is in contrast to the general complex case, where not
all pairs of almost commuting unitaries are close to commuting pairs. Our
techniques also yield results about almost normal matrices over the reals and
the quaternions.Comment: 13 pages, 3 figure
Antisymmetric tensor contribution to the muon g-2
We investigate the Kalb-Ramond antisymmetric tensor field as solution to the
muon problem. In particular we calculate the lowest-order Kalb-Ramond
contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment and find that we can fit the
new experimental value for the anomaly by adjusting the coupling without
affecting the electron anomalous magnetic moment results.Comment: 7 pages, 1 figur
