Aging phenomena in spin glasses: theory, experiment, and simulation
We study numerically temperature-shift and field-shift aging protocols on the
3-dimensional (3D) Ising Edwards-Anderson (EA) spin-glass (SG) model focusing
on respectively the temperature-chaos nature and the stability under a static
field of the
SG phase. The results of the latter strongly support the droplet theory which
predicts the instability of the SG phase under the field. They are also

Long-Term Follow-Up of Autoimmune Pancreatitis: Characteristics of Chronic Disease and Recurrence
Autoimmune pancreatitis is a unique disease, characterized by lymphoplasmacytic inflammation in the acute stages. However, the active clinical features are unlikely to persist for long periods. Through long-term follow-up, we investigated the disease course in 51 patients with autoimmune pancreatitis. We found recurrence in 21 (41%) patients and pancreatic stone formation in 9 (18%) patients. Pancreatic stone formation was significantly more frequent in the recurrence group (7/21, 33%), compared with the nonrecurrence group (2/30, 7%). Moreover, we found high serum immunoglobulin G4 concentrations in 13 of 175 (7.4%) patients with ordinary chronic pancreatitis. This suggested that pancreatic stone formation is closely associated with recurrence and that autoimmune pancreatitis might transform into ordinary chronic pancreatitis after several recurrences. We found that the immune complex level, with a cutoff value of 10 mu g/dL, served as a good predictor of recurrence, with high sensitivity (61.9%), specificity (70.0%), and efficacy (66.7%). We also confirmed that HLA and cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen-4 polymorphisms were useful predictors for AIP recurrence.ArticleCLINICAL GASTROENTEROLOGY AND HEPATOLOGYjournal articl
Field-Shift Aging Protocol on the 3D Ising Spin-Glass Model: Dynamical Crossover between the Spin-Glass and Paramagnetic States
Spin-glass (SG) states of the 3-dimensional Ising Edwards-Anderson model
under a static magnetic field are examined by means of the standard Monte
Carlo simulation on the field-shift aging protocol at temperature . For each
process with (T; \tw, h), \tw being the waiting time before the field is
switched on, we extract the dynamical crossover time, \tcr(T; \tw, h). We
have found a nice scaling relation between the two characteristic length scales
which are properly determined from \tcr and \tw and then are normalized by
the static field crossover length introduced in the SG droplet theory. This
scaling behavior implies the instability of the SG phase in the equilibrium
limit even under an infinitesimal . In comparison with this numerical result

"Glassy Dynamics" in Ising Spin Glasses -- Experiment and Simulation
The field-cooled magnetization (FCM) processes of Ising spin glasses under
relatively small fields are investigated by experiment on
Fe_{0.55}Mn_{0.45}TiO_3 and by numerical simulation on the three-dimensional
Edwards-Anderson model. Both results are explained in a unified manner by means
of the droplet picture. In particular, the cusp-like behavior of the FCM is
interpreted as evidence, not for an equilibrium phase transition under a finite
magnetic field, but for a dynamical (`blocking') transition frequently observed

The Effect of Viscosity of Oral Moisturizers and Residual Ridge Form on the Retention Force of Maxillary Complete Dentures
Aim: To study the effects of viscosity of oral moisturizers and residual ridge form on theretention force of maxillary complete dentures.Methods: Thirty-five maxillary edentulous participants were recruited. Three types of oralmoisturizers with different viscosities, artificial saliva, and denture adhesive were used. Thesewere applied between the intaglio surface of the denture and basal seat mucosa. The centralincisor was loaded 45° upward to the occlusal plane. The force needed to dislodge the denturewas measured using a digital force gauge. Dental impressions of the polished surfaces andintaglio surfaces of the maxillary complete dentures were obtained. Then, duplicate dentureswere cast using auto polymerizing acrylic resin. The buccolingual molar residual ridge form wasassessed using the dental impressions. The duplicate denture was used to measure the positionalrelationship of the central incisor edge, anterior residual ridge crest, and posterior border ofdentures. The effect of residual ridge form on retention force was analyzed.Results: The gel-type oral moisturizer showed significantly greater retention than theother types (P < .05). The retention force and buccolingual molar residual ridge form were notcorrelated. As the ratio of the distance from the central incisor to the anterior residual ridgecrest and the distance from the anterior residual ridge crest to the posterior denture borderincreased, retention force decreased (r = -0.352; P < .01).Conclusion: The results indicate that the retention force of dentures is affected by oralmoisturizer viscosity and the relative position of the anterior residual ridge crest

Pancreaticobiliary Fistula Evident after ESWL Treatment of Pancreatolithiasis
Here we report a patient with a pancreaticobiliary fistula that was possibly associated with pancreatolithiasis. He was admitted due to mild pancreatitis. Pancreatolithiasis was revealed in the parenchyma of the head region and in the main pancreatic duct of the pancreas body with distal dilatation. Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) effectively eliminated the pancreatic stones; however, an apparent internal fistula from the middle portion of the common bile duct (CBD) to the main pancreatic duct was revealed where the parenchymal stones had been located. The patient was considered to be in the same condition as pancreato-biliary malunion without CBD dilatation, and was treated with laparoscopic cholecystectomy.ArticleINTERNAL MEDICINE. 48(7):545-549 (2009)journal articl
