SAM 2 data user's guide
This document is intended to serve as a guide to the use of the data products from the Stratospheric Aerosol Measurement (SAM) 2 experiment for scientific investigations of polar stratospheric aerosols. Included is a detailed description of the Beta and Aerosol Number Density Archive Tape (BANAT), which is the SAM 2 data product containing the aerosol extinction data available for these investigations. Also included are brief descriptions of the instrument operation, data collection, processing and validation, and some of the scientific analyses conducted to date
SAM-2 ground-truth plan: Correlative measurements for the Stratospheric Aerosol Measurement-2 (SAM 2) sensor on the Nimbus G satellite
The SAM-2 will fly aboard the Nimbus-G satellite for launch in the fall of 1978 and measure stratospheric vertical profiles of aerosol extinction in high latitude bands. The plan gives details of the location and times for the simultaneous satellite/correlative measurements for the nominal launch time, the rationale and choice of the correlative sensors, their characteristics and expected accuracies, and the conversion of their data to extinction profiles. The SAM-2 expected instrument performance and data inversion results are presented. Various atmospheric models representative of polar stratospheric aerosols are used in the SAM-2 and correlative sensor analyses
Temperature dependence of the ohmic conductivity and activation energy of Pb1+y(Zr0.3Ti0.7)O3 thin films
The ohmic conductivity of the sol-gel derived Pb1+y(Zr0.3Ti0.7)O3 thin films
(with the excess lead y=0.0 to 0.4) are investigated using low frequency small
signal alternate current (AC) and direct current (DC) methods. Its temperature
dependence shows two activation energies of 0.26 and 0.12 eV depending on
temperature range and excess Pb levels. The former is associated with Pb3+
acceptor centers, while the latter could be due to a different defect level yet
to be identified.Comment: 13 pages, 3 figures, PostScript. Submitted to Applied Physics Letter
Structure of CdTe/ZnTe superlattices
The structure of CdTe/ZnTe superlattices has been analyzed through Ξ/2Ξ xâray diffraction, photoluminescence, and in situ reflection highâenergy electron diffraction (RHEED) measurements. Samples are found to break away from Cd_(x)Zn_(1âx)Te buffer layers as a consequence of the 6% lattice mismatch in this system. However, defect densities in these superlattices are seen to drop dramatically away from the buffer layer interface, accounting for the intense photoluminescence and highâaverage strain fields seen in each of our samples. Observed variations in residual strains suggest that growth conditions play a role in forming misfit defects. This could explain discrepancies with calculated values of critical thickness based on models which neglect growth conditions. Photoluminescence spectra reveal that layerâtoâlayer growth proceeded with single monolayer uniformity, suggesting highly reproducible growth. Our results give hope for relatively defectâfree Cd_(x)Zn_(1âx)Te/Cd_(y)Zn_(1ây)Te superlattices with the potential for applications to optoelectronics offered by intense visible light emitters
q-deformed Dirac Monopole With Arbitrary Charge
We construct the deformed Dirac monopole on the quantum sphere for arbitrary
charge using two different methods and show that it is a quantum principal
bundle in the sense of Brzezinski and Majid. We also give a connection and
calculate the analog of its Chern number by integrating the curvature over

THE JOINT KINETICS OF THE LOWER EXTREMITY ASSOCIATED WITH DROP JUMP HEIGHT INCREMENTS
The purpose of this study was to identify the joint kinetics of the lower extremity associated with drop jump height increments. Sixteen subjects performed the drop jumps from the 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60-cm heights. Eleven Eagle cameras (200 Hz) and two AMTI force platforms (2000 Hz) were synchronized to collect the data. The study showed the impact was relatively larger in the higher height of drop jump. The greater joint absorption in drop jump from 40, 50 and 60-cm heights was found in the study. Moreover, subjects had greater knee and ankle absorption in drop jump during the eccentric movement. Drop jumps from 20 and 30-cm heights were advisable
Explicit Integration of the Full Symmetric Toda Hierarchy and the Sorting Property
We give an explicit formula for the solution to the initial value problem of
the full symmetric Toda hierarchy. The formula is obtained by the
orthogonalization procedure of Szeg\"{o}, and is also interpreted as a
consequence of the QR factorization method of Symes \cite{symes}. The sorting
property of the dynamics is also proved for the case of a generic symmetric
matrix in the sense described in the text, and generalizations of tridiagonal
formulae are given for the case of matrices with nonzero diagonals.Comment: 13 pages, Latex

An unfolded protein-induced conformational switch activates mammalian IRE1.
The unfolded protein response (UPR) adjusts the cell's protein folding capacity in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) according to need. IRE1 is the most conserved UPR sensor in eukaryotic cells. It has remained controversial, however, whether mammalian and yeast IRE1 use a common mechanism for ER stress sensing. Here, we show that similar to yeast, human IRE1α's ER-lumenal domain (hIRE1α LD) binds peptides with a characteristic amino acid bias. Peptides and unfolded proteins bind to hIRE1α LD's MHC-like groove and induce allosteric changes that lead to its oligomerization. Mutation of a hydrophobic patch at the oligomerization interface decoupled peptide binding to hIRE1α LD from its oligomerization, yet retained peptide-induced allosteric coupling within the domain. Importantly, impairing oligomerization of hIRE1α LD abolished IRE1's activity in living cells. Our results provide evidence for a unifying mechanism of IRE1 activation that relies on unfolded protein binding-induced oligomerization
