Solid State Television Camera (CID)
The design, development and test are described of a charge injection device (CID) camera using a 244x248 element array. A number of video signal processing functions are included which maximize the output video dynamic range while retaining the inherently good resolution response of the CID. Some of the unique features of the camera are: low light level performance, high S/N ratio, antiblooming, geometric distortion, sequential scanning and AGC
Land use change detection with LANDSAT-2 data for monitoring and predicting regional water quality degradation
The author has identified the following significant results. Comparison between LANDSAT 1 and 2 imagery of Arkansas provided evidence of significant land use changes during the 1972-75 time period. Analysis of Arkansas historical water quality information has shown conclusively that whereas point source pollution generally can be detected by use of water quality data collected by state and federal agencies, sampling methodologies for nonpoint source contamination attributable to surface runoff are totally inadequate. The expensive undertaking of monitoring all nonpoint sources for numerous watersheds can be lessened by implementing LANDSAT change detection analyses
The Misprediction of emotions in Track Athletics.: Is experience the teacher of all things?
People commonly overestimate the intensity of their emotions toward future events. In other words, they display an impact bias. This research addresses the question whether people learn from their experiences and correct for the impact bias. We hypothesize that athletes display an impact bias and, counterintuitively, that increased experience with an event increases this impact bias. A field study in the context of competitive track athletics supported our hypotheses by showing that athletes clearly overestimated their emotions toward the outcome of a track event and that this impact bias was more pronounced for negative events than for positive events. Moreover, with increased athletic experience this impact bias became larger. This effect could not be explained by athletes’ forecasted emotions, but it could be explained by the emotions they actually felt following the race. The more experience athletes had with athletics, the less they felt negative emotions after unsuccessful goal attainment. These findings are discussed in relation to possible underlying emotion regulation processes
Applications of Small Satellites for Defense Space Communication Systems and Technology Development: Pegasus Flight-2 and the Launch of Microsat
DARPA\u27s seven Microsats were placed into orbit on the second flight of the Pegasus. The Microsat program objective is to assess the tactical utility of small, low-cost communications satellites. This paper describes the changes made to the Pegasus since its first flight, provides an overview of the Microsat demonstration program, and outlines the preliminary results of the Pegasus launch. Finally, the near-term Army and Navy demonstration plans for Microsat are discussed
Is the Y (2175) a Strangeonium Hybrid Meson?
QCD Gaussian sum rules are used to explore the vector (JPC=1−−) strangeonium hybrid interpretation of the Y(2175). Using a two-resonance model consisting of the Y(2175) and an additional resonance, we find that the relative resonance strength of the Y(2175) in the Gaussian sum rules is less than 5% that of a heavier 2.9 GeV state. This small relative strength presents a challenge to a dominantly hybrid interpretation of the Y(2175)

Consequences of a Killing symmetry in spacetime's local structure
In this paper we discuss the consequences of a Killing symmetry on the local
geometrical structure of four-dimensional spacetimes. We have adopted the point
of view introduced in recent works where the exterior derivative of the Killing
plays a fundamental role. Then, we study some issues related with this approach
and clarify why in many circumstances its use has advantages with respect to
other approaches. We also extend the formalism developed in the case of vacuum
spacetimes to the general case of an arbitrary energy-momentum content.
Finally, we illustrate our framework with the case of spacetimes with a

Renormalization schemes and the range of two-nucleon effective field theory
The OS and PDS renormalization schemes for the effective field theory with
nucleons and pions are investigated. We explain in detail how the
renormalization is implemented using local counterterms. Fits to the NN
scattering data are performed in the 1S0 and 3S1 channels for different values
of mu_R. An error analysis indicates that the range of the theory with
perturbative pions is consistent with 500 MeV.Comment: 40 pages, typos corrected, journal version. Discussion of the range
