Search for a Ridge Structure Origin with Shower Broadening and Jet Quenching
We investigate the role of jet and shower parton broadening by the strong
colour field in the - correlation of high
particles. When anisotropic momentum broadening () is
given to jet and shower partons in the initial stage, a ridge-like structure is
found to appear in the two hadron correlation. The ratio of the peak to the
pedestal yield is overestimated.Comment: Talk given at 20th Int. Conf. on Ultra-Relativistic Nucleus-Nucleus

Jet-fluid string formation and decay in high-energy heavy-ion collisions
We propose a new hadronization mechanism, jet-fluid string (JFS) formation
and decay, to understand observables in intermediate to high- regions
comprehensively. In the JFS model, hard partons produced in jet lose their
energy in traversing the QGP fluid, which is described by fully
three-dimensional hydrodynamic simulations. When a jet parton escapes from the
QGP fluid, it picks up a partner parton from a fluid and forms a color singlet
string, then it decays to hadrons. We find that high- values in JFS
are about two times larger than in the independent fragmentation model.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures; Proceeding for poster sessions at Quark Matter

Effects of fluctuations on the initial eccentricity from the Color Glass Condensate in heavy ion collisions
We introduce a modified form of the Kharzeev-Levin-Nardi (KLN) approach for
nuclear collisions. The new ansatz for the unintegrated gluon distribution
function preserves factorization, and the saturation scale is bound from below
by that for a single nucleon. It also reproduces the correct scaling with the
number of collisions at high transverse momentum. The corresponding Monte Carlo
implementation allows us to account for fluctuations of the hard sources
(nucleons) in the transverse plane. We compute various definitions of the
eccentricity within the new approach, which are relevant for the interpretation
of the elliptic flow. Our approach predicts breaking of the scaling of the
eccentricity with the Glauber eccentricity at the level of about 30%.Comment: 9 pages, 10 figures, Updated version as accepted by Phys.Rev.

The eccentricity in heavy-ion collisions from Color Glass Condensate initial conditions
The eccentricity in coordinate-space at midrapidity of the overlap zone in
high-energy heavy-ion collisions predicted by the -factorization
formalism is generically larger than expected from scaling with the number of
participants. We provide a simple qualitative explanation of the effect which
shows that it is not caused predominantly by edge effects. We also show that it
is quite insensitive to ``details'' of the unintegrated gluon distribution
functions such as the presence of leading-twist shadowing and of an extended
geometric scaling window. The larger eccentricity increases the azimuthal
asymmetry of high transverse momentum particles. Finally, we point out that the
longitudinal structure of the Color Glass Condensate initial condition for
hydrodynamics away from midrapidity is non-trivial but requires understanding
of large- effects.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures; v3: added note regarding Qs2~n_part versus

Histochemical properties of sialic acids and antimicrobial substances in canine anal glands
The functional properties of sialic acids appear to be manifold. Additionally, antimicrobial substances serve as a non-specific defense against microorganisms. In this study, therefore, the localization of sialic acids and antimicrobial substances in the anal glands of dog was studied by sialoglycoconjugate histochemistry and immunohistochemistry. The secretory epithelium, luminal secretions and excretory ducts exhibited high levels of sialoglycoconjugates that terminated in Siaα2-6Gal/GalNAc or Siaα2-3Gal1-4GlcNAc. Additionally, O-acetylated sialic acids were detectable in these glandular structures. Antimicrobial substances, such as lysozyme, immunoglobulin A (IgA), lactoferrin and the peptide group of β-defensins, were also demonstrated as products of the anal glands. The results obtained are discussed with regard to the functional significance of the anal glands. These secretory products may create a defensive barrier against microbial invasion at the anal mucosa
Diurnal changes in shoot water dynamics are synchronized with hypocotyl elongation in Arabidopsis thaliana
We recently demonstrated the circadian clock modulated water dynamics in the roots of a small model plant, Arabidopsis thaliana, by the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) microimaging technique. Our developed technique was able to visualize the water distribution that depended on differences in the 1H signal among region in the shoot, such as the shoot apex, the hypocotyl and the root shoot junction. Water content in the shoot increased during periods of light in comparison with dark periods, and continued through the early stage of seedling growth until the dark period. When the water content changed, elongation and/or movement occurred in the hypocotyl, and these events were synchronized. The water dynamics of the shoot also displayed an opposite phase with the root water dynamics
