Feshbach resonances in ultracold 85Rb-87Rb and 6Li-87Rb mixtures

We present an analysis of experimentally accessible magnetic Feshbach resonances in ultra-cold hetero-nuclear 85Rb-87Rb and 6Li-87Rb mixtures. Using recent experimental measurements of the triplet scattering lengths for 6Li-87Rb and 7Li-87Rb mixtures and Feshbach resonances for one combination of atomic states, we create model potential curves and fine tune them to reproduce the measured resonances and to predict the location of several experimentally relevant resonances in Li-Rb collisions. To model 85Rb-87Rb collisions, we use accurate Rb_2 potentials obtained previously from the analysis of experiments on 87Rb-87Rb collisions. We find resonances that occur at very low magnetic fields, below 10 G, which may be useful for entanglement generation in optical lattices or atom chip magnetic traps.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figure

The purpose of this essay was to explore how dams have affected and shaped the town of Revelstoke, BC. In this piece, stories of long-term residents are juxtaposed with those of more recent immigrants to raise universal questions surrounding how all actions, big or small, field-planting or dam-building, resound with both benefits and detriments. Within the historical context of dam-building in a small mountain town, food security provides an especially vivid lens with which to consider our personal values as well as our obligations as local and global citizens. WOMEN IN ORGANIZATIONS: LEADERSHIP AND OVERCOMING BIASES

This thesis will work to describe the different experiences women have in the workplace compared to men. It will discuss the biases faced: prove-it-again bias, tightrope bias, and the maternal wall bias. These play a large role in why women act as they do in the workplace as well as why they tend to experience different barriers within the corporate ladder. This research notes both gender biases facing women and the additional bias women of color face. These different experiences change how women lead companies when placed in executive positions. These leadership styles of women tend to be more welcoming and encouraging compared to the more task-oriented ones often embodied by men. Women in the Workforce (2022) states that women make -up just under half of today’s workforce and understanding the variation in leadership style they are likely to employ when given a leadership position is key to understanding the value of more balanced promotion practices and reducing the barriers women face in being promoted to leadership positions

Trafficked in Texas: Combatting the Sex-Trafficking Epidemic Through Prostitution Law and Sentencing Reform in the Lone Star State

American law has historically treated prostitution as a victimless crime, a moral trespass between two consenting individuals, rather than a potential act of violence, a product of fraud or coercion. However, growing awareness of the international sex-trafficking epidemic has brought long-settled prostitution law once more under the critical eye of academics and lawmakers as a potential tool in curbing the stillgrowing demand for illicit commercial sex. Whether prostitution law reform may in fact be effective remains a matter of academic debate in the United States; however, such reform has gained substantial ground abroad, with compelling results. This Note argues for demand-centric prostitution law reform in the United States that prioritizes enforcement efforts and sentencing against pimps and purchasers of commercial sex. Moreover, this Note argues that Texas, already a pioneer of late in state prostitution and sex-trafficking legislative reform, is the ideal jurisdiction to initiate such legal change

This is Who I Am: Identity Development and Importance Among Diverse Youth from LGBTQ+ Parent Families

Although the literature on identity and related constructs among adolescents, emerging adults, and diverse populations is growing, little research has investigated identity among adolescents and emerging adults specifically in the context of LGBTQ+ parent families. The present study seeks to fill this gap in the literature by qualitatively investigating identity development and importance among diverse youth with LGBTQ+ parents. Participants are 51 youth (ages 12-25 years) with at least one LGBTQ+ parent. Trained personnel conducted remote, audio-recorded, semi-structured interviews from December 2018-February 2020. Interviews included questions about participants’ individual identities and conversations they have had with their parents about those identities. Using inductive thematic analysis, a trained team has coded responses from transcribed interviews. Analyses revealed six themes surrounding participants’ identities: Identity Type, Appearance, Representation Responsibility, Interaction between Personal Identity and Parent/Family Identity, Community Impact on Identity Development, and Interaction of Personal Identities. Themes indicate that parent identity, family identity, and community all impact the personal identities of youth with LGBTQ+ parents. Findings contribute to current psychological literature on identity and LGBTQ+ families, and help support and highlight this population across health settings, law and policy, as well as broad societal understanding
