    EVALUATION OF DIFFERENT CULTURE MEDIA FOR ENHANCED PRODUCTION OF PSEUDOMONAS AERUGINOSA (MTCC NO 2453) BIOMASS AND ITS PROTEINS

    Objective: Microorganisms, especially bacteria and its proteins have proven to be potential anti-cancer agents as they selectively attack the tumor cells or tumor micro-environments. The extract of Pseudomonas aeruginosa found to contain proteins that have shown promising anticancer activity. In this work, it was attempted to increase the biomass and trigger the total protein fraction of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MTCC 2453).Methods: The organism was cultivated in three different such as Luria-Bertani (LB) broth, minimal medium9 (M9), super broth medium (SB) and asparagine-proline (AP) broth. Asparagine proline broth was selected as it has shown high cell growth rate. The media was further optimized by the addition of NaHCO3 and copper sulphate to trigger the protein production. Optimized Aspergine proline broth has achieved highest cell biomass. After the shake flask culture, the overnight grown culture in optimized AP medium was further grown in a 5 L bioreactor by fed-batch cultivation to achieve higher cell densities.Results: The highest protein production was achieved at 40 ° C. Highest biomass and protein content was observed at pH 8 while lowest biomass was produced at pH 2. A gradual increase in biomass content observed from 12 h towards to 48 h.Conclusion: High biomass and proteins content and of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MTCC 2453) can be produced in optimized asparagine-proline broth. Further the extract is purified to produce novel anti-cancer proteins

    Antibacterial property of neem nanoemulsion against Vibrio anguillarium infection in Asian sea bass (Lates calcarifer)

    1222-1226Fish vibriosis is among the most common diseases that is caused by a bacteria belonging to the genus Vibrio (Vibrio anguillarium). It causes considerable economic loss in the commercial cultivation of Asian sea bass (Lates calcarifer). The resistance of microorganisms to antibiotics has resulted in a growing need for developing a new antibacterial therapy that is effective in aquaculture. The aim of this study is to develop neem nanoemulsion with antibacterial activity against V. anguillarium to identify a possible alternative to the commonly used antibiotics in aquaculture. Neem nanoemulsion was prepared and the effectiveness was studied both in vitro and in vivo (agar well diffusion assay and artificial infection). Injection and immersion challenge of neem nanoemulsion formulated the fish less susceptible to V. anguillarium infection. The results confirmed the potential use of neem nanoemulsion as a source of antibacterial compounds or as a health-promoting medicine for fish culture

    Significant association between perceived HIV related stigma and late presentation for HIV/AIDS care in low and middle-income countries: A systematic review and metaanalysis

    Background Late presentation for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) care is a major impediment for the success of antiretroviral therapy (ART) outcomes. The role that stigma plays as a potential barrier to timely diagnosis and treatment of HIV among people living with HIV/AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) is ambivalent. This review aimed to assess the best available evidence regarding the association between perceived HIV related stigma and time to present for HIV/AIDS care. Methods Quantitative studies conducted in English language between 2002 and 2016 that evaluated the association between HIV related stigma and late presentation for HIV care were sought across four major databases. This review considered studies that included the following outcome:late HIV testing',late HIV diagnosis' andlate presentation for HIV care after testing'. Data were extracted using a standardized Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) data extraction tool. Meta-Analysis was undertaken using Revman-5 software. I2 and chi-square test were used to assess heterogeneity. Summary statistics were expressed as pooled odds ratio with 95% confidence intervals and corresponding p-value. Results Ten studies from low-And middle- income countries met the search criteria, including six (6) and four (4) case control studies and cross-sectional studies respectively. The total sample size in the included studies was 3,788 participants. Half (5) of the studies reported a significant association between stigma and late presentation for HIV care. The meta-Analytical association showed that people who perceived high HIV related stigma had two times more probability of late presentation for HIV care than who perceived low stigma (pooled odds ratio = 2.4; 95%CI: 1.6±3.6, I2 = 79%). Conclusions High perceptions of HIV related stigma influenced timely presentation for HIV care. In order to avoid late HIV care presentation due the fear of stigma among patients, health professionals should play a key role in informing and counselling patients on the benefits of early HIV testing or early entry to HIV care. Additionally, linking the systems and positive case tracing after HIV testing should be strengthened

    Among the mechanisms for lattice structural deformation, the electron-phonon interaction mediated Peierls charge-density-wave (CDW) instability in single band low-dimensional systems is perhaps the most ubiquitous. The standard mean-field picture predicts that the CDW transition occurs at all fillings and all values of the electron-phonon coupling gg and the adiabaticity parameter t/ω0t/\omega_0. Here, we correct the mean-field expression for the Peierls instability condition by showing that the non-interacting static susceptibility, at twice the Fermi momentum, should be replaced by the dynamic one. We derive the Luttinger liquid (LL) to CDW transition condition, {\it exact to second order in a novel blocked perturbative approach}, for the spinless one-dimensional Holstein model in the adiabatic regime. The small parameter is the ratio gω0/tg \omega_0/t. We present the phase diagram at non-half-filling by obtaining the surprising result that the CDW occurs in a more restrictive region of a two parameter (g2ω0/tg^2 \omega_0/t and t/ω0t/\omega_0) space than at half-filling.Comment: Made changes in the appendices and also in notatio

    Post harvest loss and marketing of fruits - economic analysis of pink flesh guava in local and distant markets in India

    Guava produced in Bengaluru in Karnataka is also transported to distant markets like Cochin in Kerala and Chennai in Tamil Nadu. An assessment of post harvest loss (PHL) was done in these markets. The main marketing channel followed was:Producer PHC Distant Market WS Retailer ConsumerMarketing practices followed in marketing of pink flesh guava and losses occurring at the wholesale (transit) and retailers’ level (storage) in the distant market - Kerala were studied from wholesalers and retailers. The PHL at the wholesalers’ level was observed to be 3.6 per cent mainly due to pressed and crushed fruits during transit. The retail level loss was 4.59 per cent which was mainly due to storage for more than two days resulting in decaying, rotting, yellowing etc. Average price received by the wholesaler was Rs.29.92/kg with a margin of Rs.6.21/kg (20.75%). The retailers received a price of Rs.46.54/kg with a margin of Rs.16.35/kg (35.13%). Marketing practices followed in marketing of pink flesh guava and losses occurring at the wholesale (transit) and retailers’ level (storage) in the distant market - Chennai (Tamil Nadu) were studied with wholesalers in Coimbeedu market and retailers in different parts of Chennai. The PHL at the wholesalers’ level was observed to be 4.62 per cent mainly due to pressed and crushed fruits during transit. The retail level loss was 6.09 per cent which was due to pressing of fruits during handling. The wholesaler received a margin of 22.91 percent in trading of guava fruits. The retailers received a margin of 45.72 per cent. The Karnataka farmers can take advantage of the higher prices prevalent in the distant markets and increase their income. Pathological investigation indicated that losses occurred at different stages of handling due to Styler end rot, Anthracnose, Canker, thrips attack etc., which needs to be addressed. The storage losses of pink flesh guava were estimated as 5.89 % after 4 days of storage at room temperature (24-32°C) that constituted mainly the physiological loss in weight (PLW). Spoilage started after 5 days of storage (10.5 %) and reached to 28.31 % by 6 days of storage. After 4 days of storage, guava fruits lose weight to the extent of 6 per cent and the spoilage starts after 5 days. Hence, care should be taken to dispose of the fruits within five days of harvest

    The screened electron-electron interaction Wσ,σW_{\sigma, \sigma'} and the electron self-energy in an infinitesimally polarized electron gas are derived by extending the approach of Kukkonen and Overhauser. Various quantities in the expression for Wσ,σW_{\sigma, \sigma'} are identified in terms of the relevant response functions of the electron gas. The self-energy is obtained from Wσ,σW_{\sigma, \sigma'} by making use of the GW method which in this case represents a consistent approximation.     Economic Analysis of Post-Harvest Loss and Marketing Efficiency in Guava (cv. Allahabad safeda) in Karnataka

    Post-harvest losses (PHL) in guava (cv. Allahabad safeda) were estimated at the field and retail levels in Karnataka, and impact of this loss on marketing efficiency was studied. Results indicated that the total PHL was 13.29% consisting of field-level loss (9.17%) and retail level loss (4.12%). The producer's share was 51.52% and PHL, when included as an item of cost, reduced the share to 45.80%. PHL also reduced marketing efficiency index from 1.06 to 0.88, thereby indicating the importance of PHL and scope for minimizing it to improve the efficiency of the marketing system in guava

    Effect of planting density on yield and architecture suitability of groundnut (Arachis hypogaea) varieties

    A field experiment was conducted during rainy (kharif) seasons of 2018 and 2019 at the research farm of Sri Venkateswara Agricultural College (Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University), Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, to study the effect of planting density on yield and architecture suitability of groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) varieties. The experiment included 4 sowing densities (D1, 33.3 plants/m2; D2, 50 plants/m2; D3, 66.6 plants/m2 and D4, 100 plants/m2) and 3 genotypes with varying architecture (G1, Kadiri 6-erect; G2, Kadiri 9-decumbent 2; and G3, Dharani-decumbent 3). The results showed that across planting densities, Dharani and Kadiri 9 genotypes showed higher architectural traits, structural carbohydrates and kernel yield compared to the Kadiri 6. A significant positive correlation was detected between the lodging percentage and both plant height (r = 0.88**) and internodal length (r = 0.61*). Significant negative correlations, were identified between lodging percentage and several parameters, including leaf thickness (r = -0.92**), specific leaf weight (r = -0.93**), stem diameter (r = -0.79**), specific stem weight (r = -0.97**), number of branches (r = -0.72**), cellulose content (r = -0.80**), and lignin content (r = -0.79**). These findings indicate that the decumbent architecture is optimal for achieving groundnut lodging resistance and kernel yield in high-density planting systems

    Experimental evidence for the formation of stripe phases in Si/SiGe

    We observe pronounced transport anisotropies in magneto-transport experiments performed in the two-dimensional electron system of a Si/SiGe heterostructure. They occur when an in-plane field is used to tune two Landau levels with opposite spin to energetic coincidence. The observed anisotropies disappear drastically for temperatures above 1 K. We propose that our experimental findings may be caused by the formation of a unidirectional stripe phase oriented perpendicular to the in-plane field.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
