Structure of 5-nitro-2-tosylaminobenzaldehyde di(morpholin-4-yl)aminal Complex with Carbon Tetrachloride
The 5-nitro-2-tosylaminobenzaldehyde di(morpholin-4-yl)aminal forms a stable complex with carbon tetrachloride in the crystal phase. X-ray structural study of this complex indicates an essentially shortened intermolecular contact of 2.89 Å between the oxygen atom of the nitro group and one of the chlorine atom of the CCI4 molecule. Quantum-chemical calculations by semiempirical AMI method showed that the formation of such complex did not cause considerable decrease of system energy or change of charge distribution in molecules. It was supposed that this associate has van der Waals character
Electric field dependence of thermal conductivity of a granular superconductor: Giant field-induced effects predicted
The temperature and electric field dependence of electronic contribution to
the thermal conductivity (TC) of a granular superconductor is considered within
a 3D model of inductive Josephson junction arrays. In addition to a
low-temperature maximum of zero-field TC K(T,0) (controlled by mutual
inductance L_0 and normal state resistivity R_n), the model predicts two major
effects in applied electric field: (i) decrease of the linear TC, and (ii)
giant enhancement of the nonlinear (i.e., grad T-dependent) TC with
[K(T,E)-K(T,0)]/K(T,0) reaching 500% for parallel electric fields E=E_T
(E_T=S_0|grad T| is an "intrinsic" thermoelectric field). A possiblity of
experimental observation of the predicted effects in granular superconductors
is discussed.Comment: 5 LaTeX pages (jetpl.sty included), 2 EPS figures. To be published in

Structure of a bacterial type IV secretion core complex at subnanometre resolution
Type IV secretion (T4S) systems are able to transport DNAs and/or proteins through the membranes of bacteria. They form large multiprotein complexes consisting of 12 proteins termed VirB1-11 and VirD4. VirB7, 9 and 10 assemble into a 1.07 MegaDalton membrane-spanning core complex (CC), around which all other components assemble. This complex is made of two parts, the O-layer inserted in the outer membrane and the I-layer inserted in the inner membrane. While the structure of the O-layer has been solved by X-ray crystallography, there is no detailed structural information on the I-layer. Using high-resolution cryo-electron microscopy and molecular modelling combined with biochemical approaches, we determined the I-layer structure and located its various components in the electron density. Our results provide new structural insights on the CC, from which the essential features of T4S system mechanisms can be derived
Targeted JAM-C deletion in germ cells by Spo11-controlled Cre recombinase
Meiosis is a crucial process for the production of functional gametes. However, the biological significance of many genes expressed during the meiotic phase remains poorly understood, mainly because of the lethal phenotypes of the knockout mice. Functional analysis of such genes using the conditional knockout approach is hindered by the lack of suitable Cre transgenic lines. We describe here the generation of transgenic mice expressing Cre recombinase under the control of the meiotic Spo11 gene. Using LacZ-R26(loxP) and EYFP-R26(loxP) reporter mice, we show the specific expression and activity of Cre during meiosis in males and females. Spo11(Cre) mice were then crossed with floxed Nbs1 and JAM-C mice to produce conditional knockouts. A strong reduction of Nbs1 and JAM-C protein levels was found in the testis. Although Nbs1-deleted mice developed minor gonadal abnormalities, JAM-C-knockout mice showed a spermiogenetic arrest, as previously described for the null mice. These results provide strong evidence that Spo11(Cre) transgenic mice represent a powerful tool for deleting genes of interest specifically in meiotic and/or in postmeiotic germ cells
Special features of the Be2He fragmentation in emulsion at an energy of 1.2~A~GeV
The results of investigations of the relativistic Be nucleus
fragmentation in emulsion which entails the production of two He fragments of
an energy of 1.2~A~GeV are presented. The results of the angular measurements
of the Be2He events are analyzed.
The BeBe+n fragmentation channel involving the Be decay from
the ground (0) and the first excited (2) states to two
particles is observed to be predominant.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures, conference: Conference on Physics of Fundamental

ИНВЕСТИЦИОННАЯ КОНЪЮНКТУРА В РОССИЙСКОЙ ПРОМЫШЛЕННОСТИ
The actual deficiency of investment into Russian industry innovative development increases its technological drag from industries of countries with developed markets. Although the rate of investment into real sectors of Russian economics mid 2000 was higher compared to the previous period, annual investment amounts were much lower than in 1990. At present, highest investment amounts are directed to industry extractive branches and to the commerce. Amounts invested to various economy branches do not correspond to their contribution to the country’sGross Added Product; particularly underinvested are manufacturing industry branches. At present, foreign share in the country economy total investment makes 15–18%. Recently, most interesting for foreigners was investment to machine-building branches with overwhelming part (for example, 90% in 2007–2008) of foreign investment into the machine-building industry being directed to creation of new automobile plants. Today, first place in the list of foreign investors’ preferences in Russia is taken by the machine-tool construction sector.
Electromagnetic dissociation of relativistic B nuclei in nuclear track emulsion
Experimental data on fragmentation channels in peripheral interactions of
B nuclei in nuclear track emulsions are presented. A detailed analysis made
it possible to justify selections of events of the electromagnetic-dissociation
process B Be + \emph{p} and to estimate its cross section. Events of
C peripheral dissociation that were observed in the same exposure are
described.Comment: 12 pages, 10 figures, 4 tables, Published in

Fragmentation of relativistic nuclei in peripheral interactions in nuclear track emulsion
The technique of nuclear track emulsions is used to explore the fragmentation
of light relativistic nuclei down to the most peripheral interactions - nuclear
"white" stars. A complete pattern of therelativistic dissociation of a B
nucleus with target fragment accompaniment is presented. Relativistic
dissociation Be is explored using significant statistics and
a relative contribution of Be decays from 0 and 2 states is
established. Target fragment accompaniments are shown for relativistic
fragmentation N3He+H and Ne5He. The leading role of the
electromagnetic dissociation on heavy nuclei with respect to break-ups on
target protons is demonstrated in all these cases. It is possible to conclude
that the peripheral dissociation of relativistic nuclei in nuclear track
emulsion is a unique tool to study many-body systems composed of lightest
nuclei and nucleons in the energy scale relevant for nuclear astrophysics.Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures, 4 tables, conference: Relativistic nuclear
