Study of Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center utility systems
The results of an engineering study of potential energy saving utility system modifications for the NASA Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center are presented. The objective of the study was to define and analyze utility options that would provide facility energy savings in addition to the approximately 25 percent already achieved through an energy loads reduction program. A systems engineering approach was used to determine total system energy and cost savings resulting from each of the ten major options investigated. The results reported include detailed cost analyses and cost comparisons of various options. Cost are projected to the year 2000. Also included are a brief description of a mathematical model used for the analysis and the rationale used for a site survey to select buildings suitable for analysis
Prime diagnosticity in short-term repetition priming: Is primed evidence discounted, even when it reliably indicates the correct answer?
The authors conducted 4 repetition priming experiments that manipulated prime duration and prime diagnosticity in a visual forced-choice perceptual identification task. The strength and direction of prime diagnosticity produced marked effects on identification accuracy, but those effects were resistant to subsequent changes of diagnosticity. Participants learned to associate different diagnosticities with primes of different durations but not with primes presented in different colors. Regardless of prime diagnosticity, preference for a primed alternative covaried negatively with prime duration, suggesting that even for diagnostic primes, evidence discounting remains an important factor. A computational model, with the assumption that adaptation to the statistics of the experiment modulates the level of evidence discounting, accounted for these results
Numerical Approach to Multi Dimensional Phase Transitions
We present an algorithm to analyze numerically the bounce solution of
first-order phase transitions. Our approach is well suited to treat phase
transitions with several fields. The algorithm consists of two parts. In the
first part the bounce solution without damping is determined, in which case
energy is conserved. In the second part the continuation to the physically
relevant case with damping is performed. The presented approach is numerically

Physics Potential of a 2540 Km Baseline Superbeam Experiment
We study the physics potential of a neutrino superbeam experiment with a 2540
km baseline. We assume a neutrino beam similar to the NuMI beam in medium
energy configuration. We consider a 100 kton totally active scintillator
detector at a 7 mr off-axis location. We find that such a configuration has
outstanding hierarchy discriminating capability. In conjunction with the data
from the present reactor neutrino experiments, it can determine the neutrino
mass hierarchy at 3 sigma level in less than 5 years, if sin^2(2*theta13) >
0.01, running in the neutrino mode alone. As a stand alone experiment, with a 5
year neutrino run and a 5 year anti-neutrino run, it can determine non-zero
theta13 at 3 sigma level if sin^2(2*theta13) > 7*10^{-3} and hierarchy at 3
sigma level if sin^2(2*theta13) > 8*10^{-3}. This data can also distinguish
deltaCP = pi/2 from the CP conserving values of 0 and pi, for sin^2(2*theta13)

Resolving Octant Degeneracy at LBL experiment by combining Daya Bay Reactor Setup
Long baseline Experiment (LBL) have promised to be a very powerful
experimental set up to study various issues related to Neutrinos. Some ongoing
and planned LBL and medium baseline experiments are - T2K, MINOS, NOvA, LBNE,
LBNO etc. But the long baseline experiments are crippled due to presence of
some parameter degeneracies, like the Octant degeneracy. In this work, we first
show the presence of Octant degeneracy in LBL experiments, and then combine it
with Daya Bay Reactor experiment, at different values of CP violation phase. We
show that the Octant degeneracy in LBNE can be resolved completely with this
