Atomic-scale identification of novel planar defect phases in heteroepitaxial YBaCuO thin films
We have discovered two novel types of planar defects that appear in
heteroepitaxial YBaCuO (YBCO123) thin films, grown by
pulsed-laser deposition (PLD) either with or without a
LaCaMnO (LCMO) overlayer, using the combination of
high-angle annular dark-field scanning transmission electron microscopy
(HAADF-STEM) imaging and electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) mapping for
unambiguous identification. These planar lattice defects are based on the
intergrowth of either a BaO plane between two CuO chains or multiple Y-O layers
between two CuO planes, resulting in non-stoichiometric layer sequences
that could directly impact the high- superconductivity
Study on cementitious properties of steel slag
The converter steel slag chemical and mineral components in China’s main steel plants have been analysed in the present paper. The electronic microscope, energy spectrum analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the main mineral compositions in the converter slag. Converter slag of different components were grounded to obtain a powder with specific surface area over 400m2/kg, making them to take place some part of the cement in the concrete as the admixture and carry out the standard tests. The results indicate that the converter slag can be used as cementitious materials for construction. Furthermore, physical mechanic and durability tests on the concrete that certain amount of cement be substituted by converter steel slag powder from different steel plants are carried out, the results show that the concrete with partial substitution of steel slag powder has the advantages of higher later period strength, better frost resistance, good wear resistance and lower hydration heat, etc. This study can be used as the technical basis for “Steel Slag Powder Used For Cement And Concrete”, “Steel Slag Portland Cement”, “Low Heat Portland Steel Slag Cement”, “Steel Slag Road Cement” in China, as well as a driving force to the works of steel slag utilization with high-value addition, circular economy, energy conservation and discharge reduction in the iron and steel industry
Electronic density of states derived from thermodynamic critical field curves for underdoped La-Sr-Cu-O
Thermodynamic critical field curves have been measured for
over the full range of carrier concentrations
where superconductivity occurs in order to determine changes in the normal
state density of states with carrier concentration. There is a substantial
window in the plane where the measurements are possible because the
samples are both thermodynamically reversible and the temperature is low enough
that vortex fluctuations are not important. In this window, the data fit
Hao-Clem rather well, so this model is used to determine and
for each temperature and carrier concentration. Using N(0) and the ratio of the
energy gap to transition temperature, , as fitting
parameters, the curves give over the
whole range of . Values of N(0) remain rather constant in the optimum-doped
and overdoped regime, but drops quickly toward zero in the underdoped regime.
One-dimensional anyons with competing -function and derivative -function potentials
We propose an exactly solvable model of one-dimensional anyons with competing
-function and derivative -function interaction potentials. The
Bethe ansatz equations are derived in terms of the -particle sector for the
quantum anyonic field model of the generalized derivative nonlinear
Schr\"{o}dinger equation. This more general anyon model exhibits richer physics
than that of the recently studied one-dimensional model of -function
interacting anyons. We show that the anyonic signature is inextricably related
to the velocities of the colliding particles and the pairwise dynamical
interaction between particles.Comment: 9 pages, 2 figures, minor changes, references update
Dr. Yang Zhong: an explorer on the road forever
On the morning of September 25th 2017, grievous news spread from the remote Ordos region of Inner Mongolia to Fudan University campus in Shanghai. Professor Yang Zhong, a famous botanist and the Dean of Fudan University’s graduate school, passed away in a tragic car accident while on a business trip
Lin28 Enhances Tissue Repair by Reprogramming Cellular Metabolism
SummaryRegeneration capacity declines with age, but why juvenile organisms show enhanced tissue repair remains unexplained. Lin28a, a highly conserved RNA-binding protein expressed during embryogenesis, plays roles in development, pluripotency, and metabolism. To determine whether Lin28a might influence tissue repair in adults, we engineered the reactivation of Lin28a expression in several models of tissue injury. Lin28a reactivation improved hair regrowth by promoting anagen in hair follicles and accelerated regrowth of cartilage, bone, and mesenchyme after ear and digit injuries. Lin28a inhibits let-7 microRNA biogenesis; however, let-7 repression was necessary but insufficient to enhance repair. Lin28a bound to and enhanced the translation of mRNAs for several metabolic enzymes, thereby increasing glycolysis and oxidative phosphorylation (OxPhos). Lin28a-mediated enhancement of tissue repair was negated by OxPhos inhibition, whereas a pharmacologically induced increase in OxPhos enhanced repair. Thus, Lin28a enhances tissue repair in some adult tissues by reprogramming cellular bioenergetics.PaperCli
