Magnon Planar Hall Effect and Anisotropic Magnetoresistance in a Magnetic Insulator
Electrical resistivities can be different for charge currents travelling
parallel or perpendicular to the magnetization in magnetically ordered
conductors or semiconductors, resulting in the well-known planar Hall effect
and anisotropic magnetoresistance. Here, we study the analogous anisotropic
magnetotransport behavior for magnons in a magnetic insulator
YFeO. Electrical and thermal magnon injection, and
electrical detection methods are used at room temperature with transverse and
longitudinal geometries to measure the magnon planar Hall effect and
anisotropic magnetoresistance, respectively. We observe that the relative
difference between magnon current conductivities parallel and perpendicular to
the magnetization, with respect to the average magnon conductivity, i.e.
, is approximately 5% with the majority of the measured devices showing

Entanglement dynamics of two-qubit system in different types of noisy channels
In this paper, we study entanglement dynamics of a two-qubit extended
Werner-like state locally interacting with independent noisy channels, i.e.,
amplitude damping, phase damping and depolarizing channels. We show that the
purity of initial entangled state has direct impacts on the entanglement
robustness in each noisy channel. That is, if the initial entangled state is
prepared in mixed instead of pure form, the state may exhibit entanglement
sudden death (ESD) and/or be decreased for the critical probability at which
the entanglement disappear.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figure
Inducing ferromagnetism and Kondo effect in platinum by paramagnetic ionic gating
Electrically controllable magnetism, which requires the field-effect
manipulation of both charge and spin degrees of freedom, has attracted growing
interests since the emergence of spintronics. In this work, we report the
reversible electrical switching of ferromagnetic (FM) states in platinum (Pt)
thin films by introducing paramagnetic ionic liquid (PIL) as the gating media.
The paramagnetic ionic gating controls the movement of ions with magnetic
moments, which induces itinerant ferromagnetism on the surface of Pt films with
large coercivity and perpendicular anisotropy mimicking the ideal
two-dimensional Ising-type FM state. The electrical transport of the induced FM
state shows Kondo effect at low temperature suggesting spatially separated
coexistence of Kondo scattering beneath the FM interface. The tunable FM state
indicates that paramagnetic ionic gating could serve as a versatile method to
induce rich transport phenomena combining field effect and magnetism at
PIL-gated interfaces.Comment: 17 pages, 4 figure
Three-dimensional carrier-dynamics simulation of terahertz emission from photoconductive switches
A semi-classical Monte Carlo model for studying three-dimensional carrier
dynamics in photoconductive switches is presented. The model was used to
simulate the process of photoexcitation in GaAs-based photoconductive antennas
illuminated with pulses typical of mode-locked Ti:Sapphire lasers. We analyzed
the power and frequency bandwidth of THz radiation emitted from these devices
as a function of bias voltage, pump pulse duration and pump pulse location. We
show that the mechanisms limiting the THz power emitted from photoconductive
switches fall into two regimes: when illuminated with short duration (<40 fs)
laser pulses the energy distribution of the Gaussian pulses constrains the
emitted power, while for long (>40 fs) pulses, screening is the primary
power-limiting mechanism. A discussion of the dynamics of bias field screening
in the gap region is presented. The emitted terahertz power was found to be
enhanced when the exciting laser pulse was in close proximity to the anode of
the photoconductive emitter, in agreement with experimental results. We show
that this enhancement arises from the electric field distribution within the
emitter combined with a difference in the mobilities of electrons and holes.Comment: 7 pages, 7 figure
Entanglement and quantum phase transition in alternating XY spin chain with next-nearest neighbour interactions
By using the method of density-matrix renormalization-group to solve the
different spin-spin correlation functions, the nearest-neighbouring
entanglement(NNE) and next-nearest-neighbouring entanglement(NNNE) of
one-dimensional alternating Heisenberg XY spin chain is investigated in the
presence of alternating nearest neighbour interactions of exchange couplings,
external magnetic fields and next-nearest neighbouring interactions. For
dimerized ferromagnetic spin chain, NNNE appears only above the critical
dimerized interaction, meanwhile, the dimerized interaction effects quantum
phase transition point and improves NNNE to a large value. We also study the
effect of ferromagnetic or antiferromagnetic next-nearest neighboring (NNN)
interactions on the dynamics of NNE and NNNE. The ferromagnetic NNN interaction
increases and shrinks NNE below and above critical frustrated interaction
respectively, while the antiferromagnetic NNN interaction always decreases NNE.
The antiferromagnetic NNN interaction results to a larger value of NNNE in
comparison to the case when the NNN interaction is ferromagnetic.Comment: 13 pages, 4 figures,. accepted by Chinese Physics B 2008 11 (in

Weak coupling d-wave BCS superconductivity and unpaired electrons in overdoped La_{2-x}Sr_{x}CuO_{4} single crystals
The low-temperature specific heat (SH) of overdoped La_{2-x}Sr_{x}CuO_{4}
single crystals (0.178=<x=<0.290) has been measured. For the superconducting
samples (0.178=<x=<0.238), the derived gap values (without any adjusting
parameters) approach closely onto the theoretical prediction
\Delta_{0}=2.14k_{B}T_{c} for the weak-coupling d-wave BCS superconductivity.
In addition, the residual term \gamma(0) of SH at H=0 increases with x
dramatically when beyond x~0.22, and finally evolves into the value of a
complete normal metallic state at higher doping levels, indicating growing
amount of unpaired electrons. We argue that this large \gamma(0) cannot be
simply attributed to the pair breaking induced by the impurity scattering,
instead the phase separation is possible.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures; Contents added; Accepted for publication in Phys.

Entanglement control in one-dimensional random XY spin chain
The entanglement in one-dimensional random XY spin systems where the
impurities of exchange couplings and the external magnetic fields are
considered as random variables is investigated by solving the different
spin-spin correlation functions and the average magnetization per spin. The
entanglement dynamics near particular locations of the system is also studied
when the exchange couplings (or the external magnetic fields) satisfy three
different distributions(the Gaussian distribution, double-Gaussian
distribution, and bimodal distribution). We find that the entanglement can be
controlled by varying the strength of external magnetic field and the different
distributions of impurities. Moreover, the entanglement of some
nearest-neighboring qubits can be increased for certain parameter values of the
three different distributions.Comment: 13 pages, 4 figure
Holographic Superconductor for a Lifshitz fixed point
We consider the gravity dual of strongly coupled system at a Lifshitz-fixed
point and finite temperature, which was constructed in a recent work
arXiv:0909.0263. We construct an Abelian Higgs model in that background and
calculate condensation and conductivity using holographic techniques. We find
that condensation happens and DC conductivity blows up when temperature turns
below a critical value.Comment: 14 pages, 4 figures, v4: improved version, references adde
The entanglement in one-dimensional random XY spin chain with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction
The impurities of exchange couplings, external magnetic fields and
Dzyaloshinskii--Moriya (DM) interaction considered as Gaussian distribution,
the entanglement in one-dimensional random spin systems is investigated by
the method of solving the different spin-spin correlation functions and the
average magnetization per spin. The entanglement dynamics at central locations
of ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic chains have been studied by varying the
three impurities and the strength of DM interaction. (i) For ferromagnetic spin
chain, the weak DM interaction can improve the amount of entanglement to a
large value, and the impurities have the opposite effect on the entanglement
below and above critical DM interaction. (ii) For antiferromagnetic spin chain,
DM interaction can enhance the entanglement to a steady value. Our results
imply that DM interaction strength, the impurity and exchange couplings (or
magnetic field) play competing roles in enhancing quantum entanglement.Comment: 12 pages, 3 figure
