Emotions in Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing and Typically Hearing Children
For deaf and hard-of-hearing (DHH) children living in an environment where their access to linguistic input and social interactions is compromised, learning emotions could be difficult, which may further affect social functioning. To understand the role of emotion in DHH children’s social life, this study investigated emotional functioning (i.e., emotion recognition, empathy, emotion expression), and its relation with social functioning (i.e., social competence and externalizing behaviors), in 55 DHH children and 74 children with typical hearing (aged 3–10 years; M_{age} = 6.04). Parental reports on children’s emotional and social functioning and factors related to DHH children’s hearing were collected. Results showed similar levels of emotional and social functioning in children with and without hearing loss. Use of auditory intervention and speech perception did not correlate with any measures in DHH children. In both groups, higher levels of empathy related to higher social competence and fewer externalizing behaviors; emotion recognition and positive emotion expression were unrelated to either aspect of social functioning. Higher levels of negative emotion expression related to lower social competence in both groups, but to more externalizing behaviors in DHH children only. DHH children in less linguistically accessible environments may not have adequate knowledge for appropriately expressing negative emotions socially

A Nonabelian Yang-Mills Analogue of Classical Electromagnetic Duality
The classic question of a nonabelian Yang-Mills analogue to electromagnetic
duality is here examined in a minimalist fashion at the strictly 4-dimensional,
classical field and point charge level. A generalisation of the abelian Hodge
star duality is found which, though not yet known to give dual symmetry,
reproduces analogues to many dual properties of the abelian theory. For
example, there is a dual potential, but it is a 2-indexed tensor
of the Freedman-Townsend type. Though not itself functioning as such,
gives rise to a dual parallel transport, , for the
phase of the wave function of the colour magnetic charge, this last being a
monopole of the Yang-Mills field but a source of the dual field. The standard
colour (electric) charge itself is found to be a monopole of .

including the standard Yang-Mills and Wong equations, are here derived from a
`universal' principle, namely the Wu-Yang (1976) criterion for monopoles, where

A novel data-driven approach to examine children’s movements and social behaviour in schoolyard environments
Social participation at schoolyards is crucial for children's development. Yet, schoolyard environments contain features that can hinder children's social participation. In this paper, we empirically examine schoolyards to identify existing obstacles. Traditionally, this type of study requires huge amounts of detailed information about children in a given environment. Collecting such data is exceedingly difficult and expensive. In this study, we present a novel sensor data-driven approach for gathering this information and examining the effect of schoolyard environments on children's behaviours in light of schoolyard affordances and individual effectivities. Sensor data is collected from 150 children at two primary schools, using location trackers, proximity tags, and Multi-Motion receivers to measure locations, face-to-face contacts, and activities. Results show strong potential for this data-driven approach, as it allows collecting data from individuals and their interactions with schoolyard environments, examining the triad of physical, social, and cultural affordances in schoolyards, and identifying factors that significantly impact children's behaviours. Based on this approach, we further obtain better knowledge on the impact of these factors and identify limitations in schoolyard designs, which can inform schools, designers, and policymakers about current problems and practical solutions.Algorithms and the Foundations of Software technolog

UGT2B17 Genetic Polymorphisms Dramatically Affect the Pharmacokinetics of MK-7246 in Healthy Subjects in a First-in-Human Study
MK-7246, an antagonist of the chemoattractant receptor on T helper type 2 (Th2) cells, is being developed for the treatment of respiratory diseases. In a first-in-human study, we investigated whether genetic polymorphisms contributed to the marked intersubject variability in the pharmacokinetics of MK-7246 and its glucuronide metabolite M3. Results from in vitro enzyme kinetic studies suggested that UGT2B17 is probably the major enzyme responsible for MK-7246 metabolism in both the liver and the intestine. As compared with those with the UGT2B17*1/*1 wild-type genotype, UGT2B17*2/*2 carriers, who possess no UGT2B17 protein, had 25- and 82-fold greater mean dose-normalized values of area under the plasma concentration–time curve (AUC) and peak concentration of MK-7246, respectively, and a 24-fold lower M3-to-MK-7246 AUC ratio. The apparent half-life of MK-7246 was not as variable between these two genotypes. Therefore, the highly variable pharmacokinetics of MK-7246 is attributable primarily to the impact of UGT2B17 genetic polymorphisms and extensive first-pass metabolism of MK-7246
