Infrared structure of e+e−→3e^+e^- \to 3 jets at NNLO: QED-type contributions

    Get PDF
The NNLO QCD corrections to the e+e−→3e^+e^- \to 3 jets can be decomposed according to their colour factors. Out of the seven colour factors, three are of QED-type: 1/N21/N^2, NF/NN_F/N and NF2N_F^2. We use the antenna subtraction method to compute these contributions, providing complete expressions for the subtraction terms in NF/NN_F/N and NF2N_F^2.Comment: Talk presented at Loops and Legs 2006, Eisenac

Two-Loop Quark and Gluon Form Factors in Dimensional Regularisation

    Get PDF
We compute the two-loop corrections to the massless quark form factor γ∗→qqˉ\gamma^* \to q\bar q and gluon form factor H→ggH\to gg to all orders in the dimensional regularisation parameter ϵ=(4−d)/2\epsilon=(4-d)/2. The two-loop contributions to the form factors are reduced to linear combinations of master integrals, which are computed in a closed form, expressed as Γ\Gamma-functions and generalised hypergeometric functions of unit argument. Using the newly developed HypExp-package, these can be expanded to any desired order, yielding Laurent expansions in ϵ\epsilon. We provide expansions of the form factors to order ϵ2\epsilon^2, as required for ultraviolet renormalisation and infrared factorisation of the three-loop form factors.Comment: 9 pages, latex, references update

Measuring the Photon Fragmentation Function at HERA

The production of final state photons in deep inelastic scattering originates from photon radiation off leptons or quarks involved in the scattering process. Photon radiation off quarks involves a contribution from the quark-to-photon fragmentation function, corresponding to the non-perturbative transition of a hadronic jet into a single, highly energetic photon accompanied by some limited hadronic activity. Up to now, this fragmentation function was measured only in electron-positron annihilation at LEP. We demonstrate by a dedicated parton-level calculation that a competitive measurement of the quark-to-photon fragmentation function can be obtained in deep inelastic scattering at HERA. Such a measurement can be obtained by studying the photon energy spectra in γ+(0+1)\gamma + (0+1)-jet events, where γ\gamma denotes a hadronic jet containing a highly energetic photon (the photon jet). Isolated photons are then defined from the photon jet by imposing a minimal photon energy fraction. For this so-called democratic clustering approach, we study the cross sections for isolated γ+(0+1)\gamma + (0+1)-jet and γ+(1+1)\gamma + (1+1)-jet production as well as for the inclusive isolated photon production in deep inelastic scattering.Comment: 23 pages, LaTe

Isolated Photons in Deep Inelastic Scattering

Photon radiation at large transverse momenta at colliders is a detailed probe of hard interaction dynamics. The isolated photon production cross section in deep inelastic scattering was measured recently by the ZEUS experiment, and found to be considerably larger than theoretical predictions obtained with widely used event generators. To investigate this discrepancy, we perform a dedicated parton-level calculation of this observable, including contributions from fragmentation and large-angle radiation. Our results are in good agreement with all aspects of the experimental measurement.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

    Z+jet production at NNLO

We give a brief overview of our calculation of the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) QCD corrections to Z+jet production in hadronic collisions. Phenomenological results are presented which comprise various differential distributions for 8 TeV proton-proton collisions. A significant reduction of the scale uncertainties is observed throughout as we move from NLO to NNLO. We further discuss how this calculation can be used to describe the inclusive Z-boson production at large transverse momentum. To this end, the theory prediction is compared to the measurements performed by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. Here, the inclusion of NNLO QCD effects are found to result in a substantial improvement in the agreement between theory and data for the normalised distributions.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures, to appear in the proceedings of Loops and Legs in Quantum Field Theory, 24-29 April 2016, Leipzig, German

Antenna subtraction with massive fermions at NNLO: Double real initial-final configurations

We derive the integrated forms of specific initial-final tree-level four-parton antenna functions involving a massless initial-state parton and a massive final-state fermion as hard radiators. These antennae are needed in the subtraction terms required to evaluate the double real corrections to ttˉt\bar{t} hadronic production at the NNLO level stemming from the partonic processes qqˉ→ttˉq′qˉ′q\bar{q}\to t\bar{t}q'\bar{q}' and gg→ttˉqqˉgg\to t\bar{t}q\bar{q}.Comment: 24 pages, 1 figure, 1 Mathematica file attache
