    Get PDF
Robots have been utilized to support disaster mitigation missions through exploration of areas that are either unreachable or hazardous for human rescuers [1]. The great potential for robotics in disaster mitigation has been recognized by the research community and during the last decade, a lot of research has been focused on developing robotic systems for this purpose. In this thesis, we present a description of the usage and classification of UAVs and performance metrics that affect controlling of UAVs. We also present new contributions to the UAV simulator developed by ECSL and RRL: the integration of flight dynamics of Hummingbird quadcopter, and distance optimization using a Genetic algorithm

The future design direction of smart clothing development

    Get PDF
Literature indicates that Smart Clothing applications, the next generation of clothing and electronic products, have been struggling to enter the mass market because the consumersā€™ latent needs have not been recognised. Moreover, the design direction of Smart Clothes remains unclear and unfocused. Nevertheless, a clear design direction is necessary for all product development. Therefore, this research aims to identify the design directions of the emerging Smart Clothes industry by conducting a questionnaire survey and focus groups with its major design contributors. The results reveal that the current strategy of embedding a wide range of electronic functions in a garment is not suitable. This is primarily because it does not match the usersā€™ requirements, purchasing criteria and lifestyle. The results highlight the respondentsā€™ preference for personal healthcare and sportswear applications that suit their lifestyle, are aesthetically attractive, and provide a practical function

Double Carbonāˆ’Hydrogen Activation of 2-Vinylpyridine: Synthesis of Tri- and Pentanuclear Clusters Containing the Ī¼-NC\u3csub\u3e5\u3c/sub\u3eH\u3csub\u3e4\u3c/sub\u3eCHā•C Ligand

Reactions of 2-vinylpyridine with the triruthenium complexes [Ru3(CO)12] and [Ru3(CO)10(Ī¼-dppm)] leads to a previously unknown double carbonāˆ’hydrogen bond activation of the Ī²-carbon of the vinyl group to afford the pentaruthenium and triruthenium complexes [Ru5(CO)14(Ī¼4-C5H4CHā•C)(Ī¼-H)2] (1) and [Ru3Cl(CO)5(Ī¼-CO)(Ī¼-dppm)(Ī¼3-NC5H4CHā•C)(Ī¼-H)] (2), respectively. Crystal structures reveal two different forms of bridging of the dimetalated 2-vinylpyridyl ligand, capping a square face in 1 and a triangular face in 2

Quick Handover in 5G for High Speed Railways and Highways Using Forward Handover and PN Sequence Detection

    Get PDF
The cellular users, on high speed railways andhighways, travel at a very high speed and follow a nearly straightpath, in general. Thus, they typically undergo a maximumfrequency of handovers in the cellular environment. This requiresa very fast triggering of the handover. In the existing method ofhandover in 5G cellular communication, for high speed users, neither the decision-making of handover nor the triggering ofhandover is sufficiently fast. This can lead to poor signal qualityand packet losses and in the worst case, radio link failure (RLF)during a handover. This paper proposes a forward handover basedmethod, combined with PN sequence detections, to facilitate aquicker handover for high speed users on railways and highways. The proposed method adds some complexity but can offer asignificant improvement in the overall handover delay. A simplisticsimulation is used to demonstrate the improvement of the proposedmethod

On the monotone stability approach to BSDEs with jumps: Extensions, concrete criteria and examples

We show a concise extension of the monotone stability approach to backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) that are jointly driven by a Brownian motion and a random measure for jumps, which could be of infinite activity with a non-deterministic and time inhomogeneous compensator. The BSDE generator function can be non convex and needs not to satisfy global Lipschitz conditions in the jump integrand. We contribute concrete criteria, that are easy to verify, for results on existence and uniqueness of bounded solutions to BSDEs with jumps, and on comparison and a-priori LāˆžL^{\infty}-bounds. Several examples and counter examples are discussed to shed light on the scope and applicability of different assumptions, and we provide an overview of major applications in finance and optimal control.Comment: 28 pages. Case-fatality ratio of blood cultureā€“confirmed typhoid fever in Dhaka, Bangladesh

    Get PDF
With impending rollout of new conjugate typhoid vaccines, better estimates of typhoid case-fatality ratio are needed for countries to set priorities for public health programs. We enrolled 1425 patients of all ages with blood cultureā€“confirmed Salmonella Typhi from laboratory networks serving inpatients and outpatients in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Participants were asked about symptoms and complications including death experienced over a median 3-month period following blood culture diagnosis. Four fatal cases were identified (case-fatality ratio of 0.3% [95% confidence interval, .05%ā€“.55%]). Applying this case-fatality ratio to global typhoid burden estimates would reduce deaths by 70%

Interfacial Microstructure, Microhardness and Tensile Properties of Al Micro-Particle Doped Sn-9Zn Eutectic Pb-Free Solder Alloy for Microelectronics Applications

In this study, the effect of Al microparticles (10Āµm) to Sn9Zn eutectic solder, were examined in order to investigate the microstructural and mechanical properties as well as thermal behavior of the newly developed ternary solder alloys. Here, an approach to prepare a microcomposite solder alloy by mixing Al with a molten SnZn solder alloy was developed. Thecomposite solder was prepared by mechanically mixing Al microparticles into the Snā€“9Zn alloy melt to ensure a homogeneous distribution of the reinforcing particles. The Al particles reacted with the Zn and formed intermetallic compounds (IMC) with the eutectic solder alloy. The microstructures of newly developed ternary Sn 9ZnxAl solder alloys contain fine needlelike Ī±Zn phase with some IMCs dispersed in the Ī²Sn matrix. The compact shaped Al6Zn3Sn IMC uniformly distributed in the Ī²Sn phase which results in an increase in the tensile strength, dueto the second phase dispersed strengthening mechanism. As the Al content increases, the microhardness of the Sn9ZnxAl ternary solder alloys also improves due to the presence of harder IMC in the microstructure. The thermal behavior was found in the sustainable working range for these composite solder

Background: Transforaminal epidural steroid injection (TFESI) is a useful therapeutic tool for lumber disc herniation with radiculopathy. TFESI reduce inflammation and edema around herniated disc and nerve root, thus alleviating pain and accelerating the natural history of the herniated disc by shrinkage. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of TFESI in lumber disc herniation with radiculopathy. Methods: In this prospective observational study, 273 patients were included considering inclusion & exclusion criteria. All subjects received TFESI for lumber disc herniation with radiculopathy. The primary outcome was assessed with a Bengali version of Oswestry disability index (ODI) score and Roland-Morris disability questionnaire (RMDQ) scores at 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months and 1 year. Results: From baseline (18.6Ā±3.6), mean RMDQ score was significantly reduced at 2 weeks (14.4Ā±3.7), at 1 month (13.8Ā±3.8), at 3 months (11.6Ā±3.6) and at 1 year (7.8Ā±3.7) respectively. 69.2% patients had severe disability at baseline according to disability rank of ODI score; after procedure during follow up severe disability was found in 21.6% cases at 2 weeks, 9.1% at 1 month, 5.0% at 3 months and 1.2% at 1 year. The reduction of severe disability from baseline in subsequent follow up was significant. From baseline (45.7Ā±10.0), mean ODI score was significantly reduced at 2 weeks (36.4Ā±9.0), at 1 month (28.2Ā±8.9), at 3 months (24.3Ā±8.9) and at 1 year (18.9Ā±10.5) respectively. Conclusions: Transforaminal epidural steroid injection significantly reduced disability and provide improved functional outcome in patients with lumber disc herniation with radiculopathy
