The Influence of Neutron Irradiation on (B0.65C0.35)Ba1.4Sr0.6Ca2Cu3Oz Superconducting Phase: the Role of the Grain Edge

Using the transport and magnetization measurements the influence of neutron irradiation at a fluence of 5x1017^{17} n cm2^{-2} on (B0.65C0.35)Ba1.4Sr0.6Ca2Cu3Oz has been investigated. The neutron irradiation was found to decrease critical temperature and transport critical current density, increase the residual and normal state resistivity, and improve the intragranular critical current density with 1.6x1057^{57} A/cm2^{2} (at 77.3K and in the applied field up to 160 kA m) and \Delta Mirr/\Delta Mnonirr ratio (up to factor of 3) at highest field used for investigation. The field dependence of this ratio, which is below the unity at very low field but higher than 1 at high fields, correlated with the shape of the hystertic loops as well as with the change of the transport parameters after irradiation suggests the role of the irradiation induced effects on the grain edges. We discuss these effects in the framework of the Bean-Livingstone surface barriers and geometrical barriers.Comment: 12 pages, 5 figure

Hurrah, hurrah, hurrah for the flag of red, white and blue

This is an item from the Confederate Imprints Collection: Sheet Music. The short-lived Confederacy produced more than 7,000 books, pamphlets, broadsides, maps, pieces of sheet music, pictures, and periodicals. All of the publications produced in Confederate states not held by Union forces are known as Confederate imprints. The printed music included songbooks, sheet music, and broadside ballads. Songsters, inexpensive collections of secular song lyrics, were not a popular book genre in the South until after the Civil War began. However, Confederate publishers put out more songsters during the four years of war than they had during the preceding four decades. The lyrics held within the songsters, many of which were patriotic, helped to keep up southern morale. Soldiers comprised much of the audience for morale-boosting publications such as songsters. (orig./EF)The primary task of surface lining is to prevent rainwater from seeping into the wastes deposited below the surface. Its function is therefore to seal the surface. Above the sealing layer there is a drainage system; if large amount of gas are generated (domestic wastes) the gas is channeled through a gas drainage layer. The top layer of the system serves as recultivation horizon for plants. The functions of the liner are: - sealing against precipitating water; -channeling off gas or - seepage water; - plant site. Molecular monitoring of chronic myeloid leukemia patients using robust BCR-ABL1 tests standardized to the International Scale (IS) is key to proper disease management, especially when treatment cessation is considered. Most laboratories currently utilize a time-consuming sample exchange process with reference laboratories for IS calibration. A World Health Organization (WHO) BCR-ABL1 reference panel was developed (MR1-MR4), but access to the material is limited. In this study, we describe the development of the first cell-based secondary reference panel that’s traceable to and faithfully replicates the WHO panel, with an additional MR4.5 level. The secondary panel was calibrated to IS using digital PCR with ABL1, BCR, and GUSB as reference genes and evaluated by 44 laboratories worldwide. Interestingly, we found that >40% of BCR-ABL1 assays showed signs of inadequate optimization such as poor linearity and suboptimal PCR efficiency. Nonetheless, when optimized sample inputs were used, >60% demonstrated satisfactory IS accuracy, precision and/or MR4.5 sensitivity, and 58% obtained IS conversion factors from the secondary reference concordant with their current ones. Correlation analysis indicated no significant alterations in %BCR-ABL1 results caused by different assay configurations. More assays achieved good precision and/or sensitivity than IS accuracy, indicating the need for better IS calibration mechanisms
