    Cognitions of Expert Supervisors in Academe: A Concept Mapping Approach

    Eighteen expert supervisors reported their thoughts while preparing for, conducting, and evaluating their supervision sessions. Concept mapping (Kane & Trochim, ) yielded 195 cognitions classified into 25 cognitive categories organized into 5 supervision areas: conceptualization of supervision, supervisee assessment, supervisory relationship, supervisor self-assessment, and administration of supervision. Implications for future research and supervisor training programs are discussed

    BotSwindler: Tamper Resistant Injection of Believable Decoys in VM-Based Hosts for Crimeware Detection

    We introduce BotSwindler, a bait injection system designed to delude and detect crimeware by forcing it to reveal during the exploitation of monitored information. The implementation of BotSwindler relies upon an out-of-host software agent that drives user-like interactions in a virtual machine, seeking to convince malware residing within the guest OS that it has captured legitimate credentials. To aid in the accuracy and realism of the simulations, we propose a low overhead approach, called virtual machine verification, for verifying whether the guest OS is in one of a predefined set of states. We present results from experiments with real credential-collecting malware that demonstrate the injection of monitored financial bait for detecting compromises. Additionally, using a computational analysis and a user study, we illustrate the believability of the simulations and we demonstrate that they are sufficiently human-like. Finally, we provide results from performance measurements to show our approach does not impose a performance burden

Analyzing journal entries written by students throughout their cultural immersion, we identified students' motivations, learning processes, and outcomes. Findings suggested developmental pathways that may assist counselor educators in stimulating meaningful student reflection across their immersion experiences

    Multicultural orientation in clinical supervision: Examining impact through dyadic data

    Clinical supervision can support supervisee cultural development through the relationship and preparation for counseling practice. Supervisor modeling of cultural conversations can aid in this development. Using dyadic data to examine how multicultural orientation (MCO) functions in supervision, we found supervisor cultural humility and missed opportunities to discuss culture both predicted the supervisory working alliance. Diverging from research on MCO in counseling, supervisee growth in ethnocultural empathy and cultural behaviors was not traceable to supervisor cultural humility. Finally, a test of correspondence between supervisor and supervisee assessments of cultural behaviors supported critiques that self-ratings contain biases, particularly for novice counselors

    The Circumstellar Environment of the Early B Protostar G192.16-3.84 and the Discovery of a Low-Mass, Protostellar Core

    We have observed the massive star forming region associated with the early B protostar G192.16-3.84 in NH3(1,1), 22.2 GHz water masers, 1.3 cm continuum emission, and at 850 microns. The dense gas associated with G192.16 is clumpy, optically thin, and has a mass of 0.9 Msun. The ammonia core is gravitationally unstable which may signal that the outflow phase of this system is coming to an end. Water masers trace an ionized jet 0.8" (1600 AU at a distance of 2 kpc) north of G192.16. Masers are also located within 500 AU of G192.16, their velocity distribution is consistent with but does not strongly support the interpretation that the maser emission arises in a 1000 AU rotating disk centered on G192.16. Roughly 30" south of G192.16 (0.3 pc) is a compact, optically thick (optical depth = 1.2) ammonia core (called G192 S3) with an estimated mass of 2.6 Msun. Based on the presence of 850 micron and 1.2 mm continuum emission, G192 S3 probably harbors a very young, low-mass protostar or proto-cluster. The dense gas in the G192 S3 core is likely to be gravitationally bound and may represent the next site of star formation in this region.Comment: Astrophysical Journal, in press. 20 pages plus 8 figures (jpg format).
