    Some topological results on Ï•\phi-metric spaces

    In this paper, the notion of Ï•\phi-metric is developed by making a suitable modification in triangle inequality. It is shown that spaces like S-metric, b-metric, etc. are Ï•\phi-metrizable. Unlike metric, concerned Ï•\phi-metric can be easily constructed. The structure of Ï•\phi-metric spaces is studied and some fixed point theorems are established

    Fluctuation-dissipation relationship in chaotic dynamics

    We consider a general N-degree-of-freedom dissipative system which admits of chaotic behaviour. Based on a Fokker-Planck description associated with the dynamics we establish that the drift and the diffusion coefficients can be related through a set of stochastic parameters which characterize the steady state of the dynamical system in a way similar to fluctuation-dissipation relation in non-equilibrium statistical mechanics.     Effect of time delay on the onset of synchronization of the stochastic Kuramoto model

    We consider the Kuramoto model of globally coupled phase oscillators with time-delayed interactions, that is subject to the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck (Gaussian) colored or the non-Gaussian colored noise. We investigate numerically the interplay between the influences of the finite correlation time of noise Ï„\tau and the time delay Ï„d\tau_{d} on the onset of the synchronization process. Both cases for identical and nonidentical oscillators had been considered. Among the obtained results for identical oscillators is a large increase of the synchronization threshold as a function of time delay for the colored non-Gaussian noise compared to the case of the colored Gaussian noise at low noise correlation time Ï„\tau. However, the difference reduces remarkably for large noise correlation times. For the case of nonidentical oscillators, the incoherent state may become unstable around the maximum value of the threshold (as a function of time delay) even at lower coupling strength values in the presence of colored noise as compared to the noiseless case. We had studied the dependence of the critical value of the coupling strength (the threshold of synchronization) on given parameters of the stochastic Kuramoto model in great details and presented results for possible cases of colored Gaussian and non-Gaussian noises.Comment: 19 pages with 7 figure

    Generating strong magnetic flux shielding regions in a single crystal of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 using a blind hole array

    Magneto-optical imaging studies in a single crystal of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 partially patterned with a hexagonal array of pinning centers (blind holes) reveals local features in the patterned region which are distinct compared to the pristine unpatterned regions in the sample. The patterned area exhibits a strongly diamagnetic local magnetization response and is characterized by a local penetration field enhanced by a factor of three. We show that strong shielding currents around the periphery of the nanopatterned region create a barrier which prevents vortex entry into the patterned region thus sustaining an effectively flux-free state upto the enhanced penetration field.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figure

    Awareness of vaccination status and its predictors among working people in Switzerland

    BACKGROUND: Adult vaccination status may be difficult to obtain, often requiring providers to rely on individual patient recall. To determine vaccination status awareness and the sociodemographic predictors of awareness for tetanus, hepatitis A and B, tick born encephalitis (TBE) and influenza vaccination. METHODS: Multivariate analyses were used to evaluate a questionnaire survey of 10 321 employees (4070 women and 6251 men aged 15–72 years) of two companies in Switzerland. RESULTS: Among 10 321 respondents, 75.5% reported knowing their tetanus vaccination status, 64.1% hepatitis A, 61.1% hepatitis B, 64.3% TBE and 71.9% influenza. Between 1 in 4 and 1 in 3 employees were not aware of their vaccination status. Differences in awareness for the five vaccinations considered correlated with gender and language. These differences persisted in multivariate analyses. CONCLUSION: Women employees, German-speaking employees and employees who paid more attention to their diet were more often aware of their vaccination status. A more reliable and readily accessible data source for vaccination status is needed in order to capitalize on opportunities to update vaccinations among Swiss employees

    Effect of cultivars and seed size on field performance of potato micro-tubers in North Eastern Himalayan region in India

    The present study was carried out at Central Potato Research Station, Shillong during 2013 and 2014 to assess the growth and yield performance of three grades of in-vitro produced micro-tubers viz. >8 mm, 4-8 mm and <4 mm of two potato (Solanum tuberosum) cultivars namely Kufri Girdhari and Kufri Megha under field planting conditions. The experiment was laid out in a randomised block design with four replications using a common spacing of 50 × 20 cm. The larger grade micro-tubers generally exhibited better physiological growth as well as yield parameters. The larger sized micro-tuber (>8 mm) showed significantly superior plant survival, canopy cover, plant height, number of compound leaves per plant, number of stems per plant and plant vigour followed by 4-8 mm grade and <4 mm grade micro-tubers. Similar trend was observed for all the yield parameters. Among varieties, Kufri Girdhari out performed Kufri Megha in all the growth and yield parameters in all the micro-tuber grades. Thus both micro-tuber size and genotype influenced the field performance. The overall finding indicates that micro-tubers irrespective of the size for both the varieties can produce mini-tubers successfully under direct field conditions in the NEH region which will facilitate quality seed production
