    Effects of pressure work on natural convection flow around a sphere with radiation heat loss

    The effects of pressure work with radiation heat loss on natural convection flow on a sphere have been investigated in this paper. The governing boundary layer equations are first transformed into a non-dimensional form and the resulting nonlinear partial differential equations are then solved numerically using finite-difference method with Keller-box scheme. We have focused our attention on the evaluation of shear stress in terms of local skin friction and rate of heat transfer in terms of local Nusselt number, velocity as well as temperature profiles.     Self modulated dynamics of a relativistic charged particle beam in plasma wake field excitation

    Self modulated dynamics of a relativistic charged particle beam is reviewed within the context of the theory of plasma wake field excitation. The self-consistent description of the beam dynamics is provided by coupling the Vlasov equation with a Poisson-type equation relating the plasma wake potential to the beam density. An analysis of the beam envelope self-modulation is then carried out and the criteria for the occurrence of the instability are discussed thereby.Comment: This is a 10 pages manuscript which contain 4 figures.     Lower k-record values from unit-Gompertz distribution and associated inference

    Mazucheli et al. (2019) introduced the unit-Gompertz (UG) distribution and studied some of its properties. More specifically, they considered the random variable X =exp(-Y), where Y has the Gompertz distribution. In this paper, we consider the lower k-record values from this distribution. We obtain exact explicit expressions as well as several recurrence relations for the single and product moments of lower k-record values and then we use these results to compute the means, variances and the covariances of the lower k-record values. We make use of these calculated moments to find the best linear unbiased estimators (BLUEs) of the location and scale parameters of the UG distribution. Applying the relation between the BLUE and the best linear invariant estimator (BLIE), we obtain the BLIEs of the location and scale parameters, as well. In addition, based on the observed k-records, we investigate how to obtain the best linear unbiased predictor (BLUP) and best linear invariant predictor (BLIP) for a future k-record value. Confidence intervals for the unknown parameters and prediction intervals for future k-records are also discussed. A simulation study is performed to assess the point and interval estimators and predictors proposed in the paper. The results show that the BLIE and BLIP outperform the BLUE and BLIP, in the sense of mean squared error criterion, respectively. Finally, a real data set pertaining to COVID-19 2-records is analyzed

    Sciatic Nerve Cut and Repair Using Fibrin Glue in Adult Mice

    Peripheral nerve injury (PNI) is an excellent model for studying neural responses to injury and elucidating the mechanisms that can facilitate axon regeneration. As such, several animal models have been employed to study regenerative mechanisms after PNI, including Aplysia, zebrafish, rabbits, cats and rodents. This protocol describes how to perform a sciatic nerve injury and repair in mice, one of the most frequently used models to study mechanisms that facilitate recovery after PNI, and that takes advantage of the availability of many genetic models. In this protocol, we describe a method for using fibrin glue to secure the proximal and distal stumps of an injured nerve in close alignment. This method facilitates the alignment of nerve stumps, which aids in regeneration of both sensory and motor axons and allows successful reconnection with peripheral targets

    Very high-energy observations of the two high-frequency peaked BL Lac objects 1ES 1218+304 and H 1426+428

    We present results of very-high-energy gamma-ray observations (E > 160 GeV) of two high-frequency-peaked BL Lac (HBL) objects, 1ES 1218+304 and H 1426+428, with the Solar Tower Atmospheric Cherenkov Effect Experiment (STACEE). Both sources are very-high-energy gamma-ray emitters above 100 GeV, detected using ground-based Cherenkov telescopes. STACEE observations of 1ES 1218+304 and H 1426+428 did not produce detections; we present 99% CL flux upper limits for both sources, assuming spectral indices measured mostly at higher energies

    Floods and flood management and its socio-economic impact on Pakistan: A review of the empirical literature

    Flood is one of the most damaging natural disasters as the recent floods have shown their serious impact on Pakistan. Flood control and regulation policies are essential to reduce the risks of economic downturn, a threat to human existence, and to sustain the ecology. The severity of flood catastrophe activities represents a constant and severe issue in the world. Floods are rising year by year in severity and duration, causing negative impacts on the social and economic conditions of the nation concerned. While the frequency of floods cannot be avoided, their adverse impacts can be considerably reduced by adopting careful planning and efficient training. This paper reviews the socioeconomic impact of floods, and the existing condition of flood control policies outlines the flood protection problems and discusses opportunities for successful and efficient flood control in Pakistan. The paper also intends to propose several suggestions for efficient and sustainable flood control in Pakistan

    Effect of halide-mixing on tolerance factor and charge-carrier dynamics in (CH3NH3PbBr3-xClx) perovskites powders

Although, mixed halide CH3NH3PbBr3−xClx perovskites have been prepared by different methods, however, to the best of our knowledge the anti-solvent-assisted crystallization method is employed here for the first time to prepare mixed halide CH3NH3PbBr3−xClx perovskite powders. Solution-processed methyl ammonium lead tribromide CH3NH3PbBr3 (x = 0) and different amounts of chloride (Cl) containing mixed halide perovskites (CH3NH3PbBr3−xClx) were prepared for compositions of x = 0.5, 1, 1.25, 1.75. It reveals that bulk CH3NH3PbBr3−xClx samples are highly crystalline and exists in pure single cubic phase with an increased tolerance factor as compared to pure CH3NH3PbBr3. The CH3NH3PbBr3 perovskite has space-group Pm-3 m and a cell parameter of 5.930 Å (volume = 206 Å). The synthesis route adopted here gives access to hybrid perovskites powders with high Cl content and hence enables the band gap to be precisely tuned over a range from 2.26 to 2.49 eV. The powder samples display the subtle shifts in the emission spectra and the photoluminescence kinetics exhibits a decrease in average lifetime by increasing the Cl contents due to the presence of trap states in the structures that encourage non-radiative recombination of charge carrier. Conventionally, the CH3NH3PbBr3-based inverted solar cell architecture is prepared via mixing of the CH3NH3Br and PbBr2 precursors. In contrast, herein, the precursor solutions are directly prepared from the CH3NH3PbBr3 powder and the active layer of the inverted perovskite solar cells are then spin coated using this solution. The high Voc value of the fabricated solar cells potentially makes it a promising candidate for tandem photovoltaic, photocatalytic water splitting, and semi-transparent photovoltaic applications.PostprintPostprintPeer reviewe
