Non-normal affine monoids, modules and Poincaré series of plumbed 3-manifolds
We construct a non-normal affine monoid together with its modules associated with a negative definite plumbed 3-manifold M. In terms of their structure, we describe the H1(M, Z) -equivariant parts of the topological PoincarĂ© series. In particular, we give combinatorial formulas for the SeibergâWitten invariants of M and for polynomial generalizations defined in [17]. © 2017, AkadĂ©miai KiadĂł, Budapest, Hungary
Sensor Drift Compensation Using Fuzzy Interference System and Sparse-Grid Quadrature Filter in Blood Glucose Control
Diabetes mellitus is a serious chronic condition of the human
metabolism. The development of an automated treatment has reached
clinical phase in the last few years. The goal is to keep the blood glucose
concentration within a certain region with minimal interaction required
by the patient or medical personnel. However, there are still several prac-
tical problems to solve. One of these would be that the available sensors
have significant noise and drift. The latter is rather difficult to manage,
because the deviating signal can cause the controller to drive the glu-
cose concentration out of the safe region even in the case of frequent
calibration. In this study a linear-quadratic-Gaussian (LQG) controller
is employed on a widely used diabetes model and enhanced with an ad-
vanced Sparse-grid quadratic filter and a fuzzy interference system-based
calibration supervisor

Channelling study of LaSrCoO films on different substrates
The cobalt oxide system LaCoO and its Sr-doped child compounds have been
intensively studied for decades due to their intriguing magnetic and electronic
properties. Preparing thin LaSrCoO (LSCO) films on different
substrates allows for studies with a new type of perturbation, as the films are
subject to substrate-dependent epitaxial strain. By choosing a proper substrate
for a thin film grow, not only compressing but also tensile strain can be
applied. The consequences for the fundamental physical properties are dramatic:
while compressed films are metallic, as the bulk material, films under tensile
strain become insulating. The goal of this work is to determine the strain
tensor in LSCO films prepared on LaAlO and SrTiO substrates by pulsed
laser deposition using RBS/channelling methods. Apart from the composition and
defect structure of the samples, the depth dependence of the strain tensor, the
cell parameters, and the volume of the unit cell are also determined.
Asymmetric behaviour of the strained cell parameters is found on both
substrates. This asymmetry is rather weak in the case of LSCO film grown on
LaAlO, while stronger on SrTiO substrate. The strain is more effective
at the interface, some relaxation can be observed near to the surface
Shortening the length of stay and mechanical ventilation time by using positive suggestions via MP3 players for ventilated patients
Long stay in intensive care unit (ICU) and prolonged ventilation are deleterious for subsequent quality of life and surcharge financial capacity. We have already demonstrated the beneficial effects of using suggestive communication on recovery time during intensive care. The aim of our present study was to prove the same effects with standardized positive suggestive message delivered by an MP3 player. Patients ventilated in ICU were randomized into a control group receiving standard ICU treatment and two groups with a standardized pre-recorded material delivered via headphones: a suggestive message about safety, self-control, and recovery for the study group and a relaxing music for the music group. Groups were similar in terms of age, gender, and mortality, but the SAPS II scores were higher in the study group than that in the controls (57.8 ± 23.6 vs. 30.1 ± 15.5 and 33.7 ± 17.4). Our post-hoc analysis results showed that the length of ICU stay (134.2 ± 73.3 vs. 314.2 ± 178.4 h) and the time spent on ventilator (85.2 ± 34.9 vs. 232.0 ± 165.6 h) were significantly shorter in the study group compared to the unified control. The advantage of the structured positive suggestive message was proven against both music and control groups
Transonic Shocks In Multidimensional Divergent Nozzles
We establish existence, uniqueness and stability of transonic shocks for
steady compressible non-isentropic potential flow system in a multidimensional
divergent nozzle with an arbitrary smooth cross-section, for a prescribed exit
pressure. The proof is based on solving a free boundary problem for a system of
partial differential equations consisting of an elliptic equation and a
transport equation. In the process, we obtain unique solvability for a class of
transport equations with velocity fields of weak regularity(non-Lipschitz), an
infinite dimensional weak implicit mapping theorem which does not require
continuous Frechet differentiability, and regularity theory for a class of
elliptic partial differential equations with discontinuous oblique boundary
conditions.Comment: 54 page
Diagnosis and Classification of Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome: The Hungarian Experience
ABSTRACT Background. Hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) is a rare disease with various etiologies, making the identification of the specific forms and appropriate treatment difficult. Therefore, clinical and laboratory data from these patients need to be analyzed in national and international registries. Herein we have described 47 Hungarian HUS patients with detailed laboratory and clinical data obtained between 2008 and 2010. Methods. Blood samples and clinical data of 47 patients with HUS diagnosed according to characteristic clinical signs were submitted for diagnostic evaluation, including complement protein and genetic analysis, measurement of ADAMTS13 activity and antibody analysis against O157LPS and factor H. Results. There were 8 patients with typical diarrhea-positive HUS; 13 with atypical HUS (aHUS) and 26 with secondary HUS/thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura group characterized by signs of complement consumption and decreased ADAMTS13 activity. Thus, decreased total alternative pathway activity is a promising diagnostic parameter with good sensitivity for aHUS. Conclusions. These observations highlight the requirement for multiple diagnostic tests together with clinical data to identify the specific cause of HUS. Because the long-term prognosis of aHUS, eg, graft survival after renal transplantation, may vary according to the molecular etiology, it is important for all affected patients to undergo a detailed molecular diagnosis of the disease. There is a clear clinical need for the development and application of novel assay in this field to allow more rapid efficient diagnosis of patients who undergo a first episode of HUS
