Preaching the word of God in a secularised community

Effectiveness of preaching the word of God depends largely on the preacher, his competence, zeal and knowledge. The effectiveness in question is affected by the preacher‘s testimony of faith, knowledge of the preached message and problems experienced by his listeners as well as ability to use words. The paper discusses the issue of a ministry of the preacher of the word of God in a secularised community. Consecutive parts of the reflection is devoted to reception of the preacher in a secularised community, spirituality, faith and testimony of the preacher of the word of God. Also, attitudes required of the preacher of the word of God as a leader of God‘s people and people‘s friend in a secularised community will be discussed. The last part concerns tasks of the preacher of the word of God and the impact of secularisation on formation of preachers of the word of God

Głosiciel z Duchem. Rola Ducha Świętego w kaznodziejstwie według Evangelii gaudium

Pope Francis in his apostolic exhortation on preaching the Good News in the contemporary world Evangelii gaudium published in 2013 discusses numerous issues related to the role of the Holy Spirit in the preaching practice. The study includes the topic of pneumatological content in preaching, the call to listen to people and preaching the word of God, the role of the Holy Spirit in preparation for preaching the word of God, spirituality of a preacher of the word of God. Also, it focuses on dangers faced by contemporary preachers. The basic source of the study is the apostolic exhortation Evangelii gaudium which the issues mentioned above have been derived from and analyzed.Papież Franciszek w adhortacji apostolskiej Evangelii gaudium o głoszeniu Ewangelii we współczesnym świecie z 2013 roku podejmuje wiele zagadnień dotyczących roli Ducha Świętego w praktyce kaznodziejskiej. W opracowaniu zostały podjęte zagadnienia dotyczącekwestii pneumatologicznych w przepowiadaniu kaznodziejskim, powołania do słuchania ludzi i głoszenia słowa Bożego, roli Ducha Świętego w przygotowaniu do głoszenia słowa Bożego, duchowości głosiciela słowa Bożego. Wskazane również zostały niebezpieczeństwa zagrażające współczesnym kaznodziejom. Podstawowym źródłem opracowania jest przesłanie Evangelii gaudium, z której powyższe zagadnienie zostały wydobyte i przeanalizowane

Contemporary directions of Polish homiletics in the twenty first century

Recently there has been a systematic development of Polish homiletics. Numerous academic works are fully developed. The purpose of this paper is to present major directions of research carried out by Polish homiletics scholars in the twenty first century. The latest publications Polish homiletics scholars put forward many postulates aiming at renewal of both the theory and practice of preaching. They point at the priority role of a homily in preaching the word of God and emphasise a mystagogical dimension of a homily. Issues related to formal homiletics, especially a rhetorical dimension of preaching, are discussed in detail. Numerous works point at the evangelisation function of preaching. Issues related to teaching homiletics at universities and seminaries are discussed as well

The specific content of preaching the word of God in a secularized environment

The proclamation of the word of God must always consider the unchanging Gospel and the present life of the Church and theology, which constitute the correct interpretation of the revealed word of God. The content of preaching the word of God is the good news about Jesus Christ, Lord and Saviour, and, more broadly, God’s revelation and human existential problems. Therefore, the proclamation of the word of God draws its content from the Bible and observation of the world in which contemporary man lives and creates. This study aims to indicate the specific content of preaching the word of God in a secularized environment. This proclamation should lead to faith as a personal encounter with Jesus Christ and show the true God and Jesus Christ – man’s only Saviour. At the same time, it should try to answer people’s questions and desires

Sprawozdanie ze spotkania Arbeitgemenischaft fur Homiletik : (Wurzburg 28 września - 2 października 2008)

Od 28 września do 2 października 2008 roku w Würzburgu odbyło się kolejne spotkanie Arbeitgemenischaft für Homiletik. W spotkaniu uczestniczyło prawie 50 katolickich i ewangelickich homiletów z Niemiec, Austrii, Włoch i Polski. Polskich homiletów reprezentowali ks. dr hab. Jan Twardy i ks. dr Leszek Szewczyk. Obydwaj są związani z Wydziałem Teologicznym Uniwersytetu Śląskiego w Katowicach. Zasadniczym tematem spotkania było: „Sztuka wypowiedzi publicznej – homiletyczna obecność i religijne krasomówstwo”. Pierwszym prelegentem był prof. Michael Meyer-Blank z Uniwersytetu w Bonn. Wygłosił on referat: „Czym jest homiletyczna obecność?”. Celem referatu było wprowadzenie do całości problematyki sympozjum oraz ukazanie znaczenia obecność kaznodziei w kazaniu w rozumieniu homiletyki ewangelickiej. Two layers can be distinguished in sermons and homilies: the theological layer (God’s Word) and the anthropological layer (human speech). Sermon preachers should be aware of the fact that for many listeners they are models of pronunciation whose speech patterns are often imitated, be that with or without pronunciation mistakes. The paper discusses the most common lexical, grammatical or phonological mistakes made by sermon preachers. Speech therapy methods for the future sermon preachers are also presented

Music can help man in prayers and make him sensitive to the matters of God. Today, in the times of low level of a general culture of the society we can perceive a danger of misunderstanding the need of music in liturgical rites. This state of affairs imposes duty to foster musical culture in our churches, so that music performed at our churches is of the most perfect form possible. If the aim is met,music shall become a tool for transmitting faith. This task is also to be taken on by homilists and preachers. In this paper music is shown as the source and matter of preaching the Word of God. The place of music in particular preaching units has been discussed (homilies, sermons and conferences). Also, the author points at dangers of misuse of music in preaching the Word of God. The paper is concluded with proposals and suggestions

A bibliographic database allows every researcher to locate desired books, dissertations, articles, summaries and reviews. It is a valuable source of information on publications in a field of a given scientific discipline. It applies in particular to the constantly updated electronic bibliographies. The aim of this paper is to present directions of research in Polish homiletics based on the electronic content of The Homiletic Bibliography. In 2006–2015 The Homiletic Bibliography expanded by 800 added items on homiletic issues. In the latest publications Polish homilists meet many demands formulated in relation to them. They point at a priority role of a homily in preaching the Word of God and emphasise a mistagogic dimension of a homily. Issues related to a formal homiletics are widely discussed, with a special emphasis on the rhetorical dimension of preaching

Treść przepowiadania do poszukujących Boga na przykładzie listów pasterskich biskupów Francji i Włoch

The question concerning the existence of God, possibility to contact Him and a potential influence of God on human life has intrigued mankind for ages. This work focuses on the issue of the content of preaching to the searching for God. The first part of the work includes an analysis of the major task of a bishop, which is preaching the word of God. Further on the author presents initiatives aiming at a direct approach to the searching for God. An example of a direct approach to individuals who do not believe in God and the ones who are searching for Him are letters of bishops of France – Suggesting faith in the contemporary society and Italy – A letter to the searching for God. Analysis of stages of their writing and outline of their general characteristics as well as content analysis are consecutive parts of this study.Pytanie o istnienie Boga, możliwość nawiązania z Nim kontaktu i ewentualny wpływ Boga na życie człowieka nurtuje ludzi już od wieków. W niniejszym opracowaniu podjęty został problem treści przepowiadania do poszukujących Boga. W pierwszej części opracowania omówione zostało zagadnienie podstawowego zadania biskupa, którym jest głoszenie słowa Bożego. W dalszej kolejności przedstawione zostały inicjatywy mające na celu bezpośredni zwrot do osób poszukujących Boga. Przykładem bezpośredniego zwrotu do osób niewierzących, jak również poszukujących Boga, mogą być listy biskupów Francji – Proponować wiarę we współczesnym społeczeństwie i Włoch – List do poszukujących Boga. Omówienie etapów ich powstawania i zarysowanie ogólnej charakterystyki oraz analiza treści są kolejnymi elementami treści niniejszego opracowania
